Straight up this movie is bad. A Night at the Roxbury never should have been made. They took a 2 minute SNL sketch and extended it to 80 minutes. They couldn't even get it to the industry standard of 90 minutes. How's that for proving that you don't have the material necessary to make a full fledged movie? Actually there is a 10 hour version of The Roxybury Guys here (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/general-discussion/the-penny-can-challenge/msg8240/#msg8240). Good luck trying to finish it.
Now having badmouthed this movie, here's the strangest thing. I own the DVD and even stranger, I find myself watching this at least once every other year. I guess I just need a mindless movie that doesn't mean anything other than having something to watch while not really watching it. I dunno. It's nuts. It is a bad movie, but there are some genuinely funny jokes here and there that always gives me a good chuckle. I also think maybe the fact that it reminds me of my Clubbing days and this is more of a nostalgic trip for me...as bad as it may be. These guys were pretty popular at the time and we would always see other people doing their moves on the dance floor and I always thought that was funny....if embarrassing.
Having said that, this is still a Skip. I could never recommend this, even though I own it. It's all about being in the right frame of mind to watch it....or at least have it as background noise.
