Robert Rodriguez has had a very unusual and very uneven track record with the movies he has made. I won't bother listing some of his good films or even a lot of his bad ones here. But I will stay that for me Planet Terror was a big disappointment the first time I saw it. There really isn't a plot or even a story worth being told here. Sure, it's a "Zombie" flick and what Zombie flick has a plot, other than to survive to live another day. First off, the dialog in this is bad. Really bad. Not sure if Rodriguez' writing has deteriorated to the point of being incomprehensible or if it was just keeping in line with this being a Grindhouse flick, paying homage to a genre notorious for bad writing and acting.

For, the best part of the entire movie happens within the first 5 minutes with Rose McGowan's opening strip tease that really doesn't even have any teasing at all, given that she never takes her clothes off. Bah! Is Planet Terror a complete dud? Naw. There are some moments that are sure to leave its mark with you if you've never seen this before. But when it comes to the Grindhouse Double Feature, I still say that Death Proof (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/death-proof-(2007)/msg1407/#msg1407) is the superior film that was more true to it's roots that it was aiming to pay tribute to.

This one is just a Rent at best. The only reason why I even bother to Buy the DVD was to get the 10 Minute Film School segment that I was and still am a big fan of. And even though I wasn't a fan of Planet Terror before, I decided to watch this again, only because it's October and doing the Halloween marathon of movies.
