Is Drive really over a year old? It seems like it just came out because the word of mouth on this has been at a feverish pitch and I've heard nothing but great things about the movie and more to the point about Ryan Gosling performance. Other than the Trailer, I've stayed away from all spoilers relating to the film. But the movie itself was completely different from what I thought it was gonna be. Is that a bad thing? Nope. It just caught me off guard somewhat.

Beyond the awesome performances from Ryan and Albert Brooks, Drive has a couple of other things working in it's favor. Aesthetically, this film just look f*cking cool. The movie is one long slow burn with extended scenes that linger longer than your typical film to highlite and punctuate the subtext that is working it's way through both the characters as well as those watching the film. I thought the chemistry between Ryan and Carey Mulligan was pretty damn electric. This isn't a dialog-heavy movie. A lot of moments within the film rely solely on a look or a gesture, which can be more powerful than a 2 minute monologue. The other thing that made this movie stand out for me was in the song choices they used to underscore scenes. Simply put, the soundtrack ROCKS! I'm definitely gonna look to see if they have a Used copy down the street that I can pick up. I want this.

If you're looking for something that is stylish, electric and violent, this is definitely one to check out. Definitely an must-Rent for sure.

I totally dug it.  Really, don't know what else to say about it except I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to see it.  Looked great (loved the Alexa photography of LA at night, it sort of reminds me of Collateral expect this was sharper and crisper), I dug all the casting choices (Bryan Cranston for sure, Rol Perlman, and yeah, Albert Brooks was a brilliant choice, it was great to see Scorpio be a proper bad guy... I love how he kills).  And yeah, I love the connection between Mulsy and Gosling in this, it's very quiet, very subtext.  I read that it was inspired by John Hughes movies, which also explains the neon cursive credits.

Yeah, there's not a lot of dialogue in this, the script, as I mentioned, was only 81 pages long!  And when you watch it you think "of course it is, no one's speaking, there's lots of slow motion... it's a very stark, streamlined flick, which I appreciate.

And something I totally appreciated, I think I said, was how the music wasn't the same "best of the 80s" hits you hear whenever someone sets a movie in the 80s (I know this wasn't SET in the 80s, but you get the idea).  Some i hadn't even heard before.

The one thing that bugs me though: was the mask supposed to be anyone?  I kept feeling like I should recognize it, like the William Shatner mask in Halloween.

I can't even remember what the mask looks like now.

As for the Soundtrack....it RULES!

Hey, so what. You get this movie confused with Driving Miss Daisy. It happens.

I kept thinking the mask was like Tom Cruise or something, but I just... I don't know.  I can't say for sure.

And oh man, Driving Miss Daisy, remember the part where Hoke goes into the strip club and makes the dude swallow the bullet?  That was balls.

It's the New Movement, old man!  Cinema Implied Association, it's about what's NOT in the movies across genres and time.  And it's not an excuse to smoke pot.  Well, not entirely.
