I make no bones about liking Tomorrow Never Dies. As a matter of fact, this is my favorite Pierce Brosnan film during his James Bond run. I really don't get the negativity toward this one at all. When I hear comments like "it's the same old plot as before", it makes me wonder where their heads are at. Has a James Bond film ever been known for originality from one installment to the next? Hell, the franchise is guilty of recycling the same plot more often than not. So, to each their own.
Like I said, I really like this one and the template from GoldenEye was set and then improved upon with Tomorrow Never Dies. Even though Martin Campbell doesn't return, they still had a Director that was able to continue onward with a very contemporary style of filmmaking that fit the new and improved James Bond. Roger Spottiswoode may not be the first choice when thinking of who to replace Campbell, but I thought he did a fantastic job and to this day, it's still his best film he ever made. The movie is both visually and sonically more impressive than anything that has ever been in a Bond film (at the time). Stunts and Set Pieces were amazing and entertaining to say the least.
But I think why I hold this very high is the addition of Michelle Yeoh as an equal partner to that of Bond. She isn't a 'damsel in distress'. She can hold her own and can actually kick some serious ass, be it the man himself or anyone else that gets in her way. I've been a fan of hers for a long time, so I was very happy to see her get a big role in an American film like this. Also, having Teri Hatcher as another Bond Babe was money well spent by the producers.
I own the Silver Cover Special Edition of this on DVD. I highly recommend this as a Buy.

I think this is the first Bond flick I'd ever seen in the theater. And I believe I knew who Michelle Yeoh was beforehand, so I was a LITTLE sophisticated and cultured at my dumb young age. Of course, I don't actually remember what the heck happened in the flick. Probably worth a revisit, though part of me thinks this might be another flick to recap my memory before rewatching.

Definitely worth revisiting. I think the got it right with the balance between action, adventure and the film looks and sounds great. Just my 2 Cents.

I think it goes without saying that any Bond that comes after Daniel Craig version is in fact going to be "tame". Hell, anything that comes after Jason Bourne is tame, which is the blue print for the modern day version of Bond.
