I may not be a fan of the original Star Trek, but I do know the inside jokes and the ones that reference Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan as well as Lord Of The Rings is very funny. Nimoy for the win!!!!!!!!!!!

And of course, the fact that they are actually friends like that in real life adds an extra little element to the commercial.  Though I doubt that they crack Trek jokes all the time.  You gotta figure even for Zachary it's gotten old by now.
