Returns September 21, 2011

Although I have to say that I'm not too sure about sticking with the show after 11 Seasons. It took a lot for me to give CSI a chance when William Petersen left the show. Laurence Fishburne did a fantastic job as his replacement. But I think replacing Fish with Ted Danson has failure written all over this. I hope to be proved wrong, but I'm not holding my breath here.

I'm just not feeling it at all with Ted Danson based on the promo. I will give the season premiere a shot and see if he can convince me to stick around. But I know I already miss Fishburne regardless if Danson is good or not.

Okay, Ted Danson wasn't as bad as I thought he would be. But he is no Laurence Fishburne...or William Peterson for that matter. Ted's character D.B. is a little to hippie-ish for my taste. Kind of flighty it seems. I will give him a few more episodes to find his CSI groove. But I'm not expecting anything near what we got with Fishburne's character of Ray Langston.

They did tie up loose ends regarding Ray by talking about the fact that he was back together with his wife and they are working on their relationship, thus his exit from CSI. As for the rest of the episode, the secondary crime scene was almost an afterthought. They show the crime scene at the beginning, and then it's forgotten about and not wrapped up till the very end. Huh? I'll give them an A for effort with the deer hose angle.

Tell Tale Hearts

Pretty gooed episode using the "Strangers On A Train" murder plot of 3 strangers in a random meeting to commit the perfect crime. On CSI, there is no such thing as a perfect crime. Usually I can pick apart who did it inside of 10 minutes, but not here. I had no idea who it was until the end. I'm trying to remember if CSI Vegas ever used the "Strangers On A Train" angle before. In my mind, I'm saying yes and more specifically, it took place within the first 3 seasons, back when Grissom (William Petersen) was still around.

So, after countless cameo's from Oscar Goodman, the Mayor of Las Vegas, they finally whack him. Almost. Lucky for him he always wears a designer suit that doubles as kevlar vest as well. The episode centers around Goodman opening the new Mob Museum. So what does it get to show for this? 4 bullets...that bounce right off him.

This was kind of weak. Nothing really compelling or engaging. The stories this season have been....meh. Even though the show deals in brutal slayings and all that, this year it seem rather light and part of the problem falls on to Ted Danson's character. He is too aloof...safe...vanilla. That's one of the things I miss about Laurence Fishburne's character of Ray. There was a lot of dark stuff surrounding him. A lot of mystery. The only mystery that we have on Ted's character is that he keeps talking about his wife, who we have yet to see. My guess is that she is long gone, but he has yet to accept it and continues to live in denial.

That's one of the best and definitely most entertaining episodes of CSI in a long time and one that's never really been done before. It had a pretty decent Special FX moment with the Copter getting shot down and crashing, follwed by a Gun Fight reminiscent of Heat. Kinda. But still something different.  The theme of Kidnapping/Hostage continues this week here as Morgan Brody (Elisabeth Harnois) is taken hostage as the team races against time to find her and bring back home. I'm really staring to like the character of Morgan and I certainly dig the actress that portrays her. Very hot.

Freaks & Geeks

Weak episode. I thought that a story revolving around Sideshow Freaks...a traveling carnival, would be somewhat memorable. I couldn't have been way off the mark here. It's now gotten to the point where the writers aren't even trying to disguise who the killer is. It was obvious from the get go that it was...

Spoiler (hover to show)

Also, it seems the producers of the show are trying to cut corners and save as much money as possible. How else to explain that their version of The Elephant Man / John Merrick only had half his face deformed and it looked like he was nothing more than a burn victim. What is going on with a lot of shows this season? It's like everyone seems to be throwing in the towel.

Meh. Average episode. Looks like they are sleep walking through this season, waiting for the other shoe to drop most likely. I'm sick of most shows using the Martial Arts/UFC angle for their story-lines. It's old and boring...and predictable. The only "twist" is one that I saw coming long before they revealed it when it turned out the killer was....

Spoiler (hover to show)

I didn't particularly care for the B story involving D.B.'s son regarding his suspension from the basketball team. Kind of a wasted story line that has no business being on the show. Also, it looks like the wheels are rolling in the eventual departure of yet another cast member. Marg Helgenberger character Catherine Willows has been given a promotion...in D.C. Her final episode will be in January 2012 as she returns to do Stage work, much like William Petersen did.

:::sigh:::

Crime After Crime

Interesting episode, but only in regards to the twist at the end. The bulk of the episode centers around a dying cop who has retired long ago out to right the wrongs of cases that he couldn't closed while on the force. The killers that got away is what he aims to fix. So, he uses a proxy to do his bidding since he is bed-ridden and dying. His proxy turns out to be Detective Sam Vega (Geoffrey Rivas). This is just some throw-away cop/actor. He has been on CSI since Season 1, with a handful of episodes here and there over the course of the series. So, the twist when the reveal of who it was, was a bit surprising.

I was pretty certain that one or the other and possible both of the FBI Agents (Grant Show & Matt Lauria) were dirty, tracking stolen Gulf War weapons in Las Vegas. I guess not. It was an okay episode. The only thing that made me sit up and take notice was the swanky pad that Catherine Willows lives in. That place had to be worth at least $5 Million. I guess it pays to be the beneficiary of a Casino owner.

Genetic Disorder

This was a very interesting and in a way, refreshing episode because it revolved around Dr. Al Robbins (Robert David Hall) which makes any fan of CSI emotionally invested in the outcome of the case. Judy Robbins (Wendy Crewson), his wife, is the suspect of a murder investiigation when a naked man is found in her (their) bed with scented candles and Marvin Gaye playing in the background. It doesn't look good for her even though she pleads her innocence.

As the investigation gets further along and we find out exactly who killed the dude and why, it just got really weird with the whole incest angle. Had the episode ended here it would have gotten a 3 star rating. But the ending with Doc and Judy reconciling saved not only their marriage...but the episode as well.

Pretty kick ass episode. This is Part 1 of 2 which has Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) leaving the series. I was curious what incident was going to finally push her over the edge and get her to finally quit the team. Losing her best friend (Annabeth Gish) from her childhood as well as potential love (Grant Show) interest is sure to do it. Can't wait for next week to see how it wraps up.

Meh. The set up was good, but I knew who the killer was from the start. My biggest peeve with this episode was that when they started to break down the who, what, why and how of the crime scene, they were going too fast with so much information that it was hard to keep track. This is the first time in the entire run of the series did I ever get "lost" watching CSI, even though I already knew who did it. I was surprised to see Elizabeth Shue on the show as Julie. It looks like she will be succeeding Marg Helgenberger role. I like the casting, but damn, this show looks so different from the original bonanza of it's former self.

Based on the title of the episode I thought it would involve baseball. Not even close. It's literally about stealing....a home. Interesting premise, but the story itself didn't interest me all that much. I am curious to find out what exactly D.B. and Julie history is as they have been dancing around this for a couple episodes now.

Seriously, what is the deal with Jeffrey Pierce and his association with San Francisco? Although CSI takes place in Las Vegas, his character is a prime suspect in the kidnapping of his son, his background check reveals crucial information about his past that took place in SF. Unplugged was just okay. I''m losing interesting in the show. Too many cast changes. Anyway, the other shows that Jeffrey Pierce has been in are Alcatraz (Season 1) (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/tv/alcatraz-(season-1)/msg5165/#msg5165) and Journeyman, Episode 5: The Legend Of Dylan McCleen (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/tv's-greatest-hits-and-misses/journeyman-(season-1-entire-series)/msg4191/#msg4191).

This was actually a pretty good episode and had it's moments of humor that was particularly funny with Hodges and Morgan pretending to be a couple for the benefit of Hodges mother, played by none other than Jacklyn Smith. He even got to play the Hero at the end taking down the bad guys. Woot woot!! This episode was insanely good. It had twist after twist after twist after twist and kept me guessing all the way to the end. This was so good that it could have been a movie. DB (Ted Danson) did allude earlier in the episode that this case reminded him a movie that Gregory Peck was in. So, I definitely need to check it out for myself. Also, this episode did remind me of something similar that I recently saw on Awake (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/tv/awake-(season-1)/msg7039/#msg7039).

As for the movie, if I remember correctly, DB said it was called The Boys from Brazil.

(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/HTL_drool.gif). Sandwiched in between is the CSI team re investigating an old crime when a prisoner is about to be set free due to a technicality. It was actually pretty good getting there and I do like how he was set "free" and walks out of the prison only to be arrested 10 seconds after the fact for another crime he committed 7 years earlier. BAM!!

Damn it. I wanted to quit this show because this season has been a struggle at times to get through. It's been very uneven season and factor in the loss of Marg Helgenberger and you have a show that's a shell of it's former self. It's ironic that this episode pretty much shines a light where things started going downhill for the series by bringing back the man that killed Warrick Brown. For me, the episode "For Gedda", in which Warrick is gunned down was what got the ball rolling for the exodus of some major characters over the next few seasons and has never fully recovered from.

Anyway, I decided to give Ted Danson a shot to see what he could bring to the series. He's not bad and it's not even his fault, but some of the episode were just poorly written and not engaging at all. This episode was actually good and the ending pretty much guarantees that I will turn in to Season 13 to see what happens next, now that Ecklie has been gunned down and DB's granddaughter has been kidnapped. But the biggest cliffhanger is that Nick quits CSI. I'm sure he will rescind that to help DB solve the case and get the kid back.
