A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies is Marty's love letter to cinema that also doubles as a "film school" on DVD as well. It's not a film school in the typical sense of Marty telling you how to block scenes, camera movies, etc... What this is, is a documentary that uses so many different examples from pretty much all the movies that inspired or influenced him prior to becoming a film maker himself. There are so many examples that the list is just way too long to write down. But I can say that what he chooses to highlight, no matter how old the movies are, they make you WANT to check out the films in full.Everything from Genres, Aspect Ratio, Style and everything in between gets dissected. I can't recommend this any higher than that this is an absolute must-Buy if you have any interest in becoming a film maker yourself. This makes a great double feature with Side By Side (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/side-by-side-(2012)/msg17692/#msg17692). I couldn't find a trailer, but posted a clip that gives you an idea of what the doc is like.
