Title: The Walking Dead (Season 5 - 2014)

The Walking Dead (Season 5 - 2014)

Well, honestly, this is not news I was wanting to hear. Look, I love Katherine Heigel... She is beautiful and she can act, but because of awful career choices, she has a stigma related to her projects. We really don't need a celebrity in the series.

Katherine Heigl In Talks To Join "The Walking Dead" Season 5!!

Quote
Wow. Looks like someone is craving that steady TV paycheck again (not hating – I’d take it in a heartbeat). And it’s in the nick of time too. AMC’s “The Walking Dead” wrapped up its 4th season over the weekend and, while the numbers for the show are still unbelievably strong, I’m sure they recognize the need to keep things fresh as the audience grows familiar with the continuing beats of the story. To me it makes sense to bring in a fresh, if familiar, face. Enter Katherine Heigl (“Grey’s Anatomy”, Knocked Up).

Per SchmoMovies, Heigl will play “a central role” as a resident of Terminus, the not-so-idyllic community that Rick and the gang apparently found themselves ensnared in during Sunday’s finale. While the nature of the role is under wraps, there is some speculation that she will be the “big bad” of the season. This actually kind of ties together, since Robert Kirkman and showrunner Scott Gimple said yesterday that the apparent Terminus leader Gareth (Andrew J. West) isn’t the primary villain for Season 5. Could Heigl be some sort of Cannibal Queen?

The return to TV comes at a great time for Heigl, who recently starred in the crowdfunded drama Jenny’s Wedding, which is currently awaiting release. In the meantime, Heigl recently launched a line of designer bridges that are currently on sale.

This smells more like desperation on her part of trying to join a 'Hot' TV series in an effort to revive her stagnant career. I would love to hear that she is in fact a die-hard fan of the show and is doing it for the right reasons and not in the hopes of what it could do for her career. Yes, that's an oxymoron as the goal is to get work. But you get what I'm getting at.

Not confirmed either by the way.

“The Walking Dead” Could Survive 12 Seasons

“The Walking Dead” producer David Alpert spoke at the ‘Produced By’ panel at the PGA this past weekend, where he shocked audiences with plans of 12 seasons, Indiewire reported.

“I happen to love working from source material, specifically because we have a pretty good idea of what season 10 is gonna be. We know where season 11 and 12…we have benchmarks and milestones for those seasons if we’re lucky enough to get there.”

This news would run “The Walking Dead” all the way until 2021. That hurts my head just saying aloud.

Andrew Lincoln responded to the news this morning…

Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights Announces “The Walking Dead”

Universal’s annual Halloween Horror Nights are more dead than ever…

AMC’s “The Walking Dead” Executive Producer Greg Nicotero announced Monday morning that “The Walking Dead” is once again crawling to Halloween Horror Nights 2014 at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort.

This year’s bone-chilling mazes will place guests at the heart of a harrowing journey to seek sanctuary at Terminus, an elusive destination that promises community for all. Mirroring the terror that befell the residents of the West Georgia Correctional Facility, now overrun by savage walkers, the experience will send guests fleeing from the fallen prison into unknown territory as they once again stage a desperate battle for survival against flesh-eating walkers and ruthless humans.

This is an extremely early announcement as the dates and ticket page have yet to be launched on the official website. One thing is for sure, this is always the best horror icon-themed Halloween event in the States. I can’t wait to see what else is announced leading up to September!

Is The Walking Dead's Daryl Dixon Gay?

Quote
The crossbow-toting Daryl Dixon has had a lot of intimate relationship over the last few seasons of The Walking Dead, but none of them so far have been romantic or sexual. One fan wrote in to Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and asked if Daryl might be gay. Kirkman's response: it's been considered.

ComicBook.com points to the letters column in The Walking Dead #130, where one fan wondered if there might be parallels between the comics' tough guy Jesus, who is gay, and Daryl, a badass character whose sexuality hasn't been established. On the question of whether Daryl might be gay, Kirkman responded:

All I can say is that it's been discussed. We have very specific ideas about Daryl's sexuality (or the seeming lack thereof), and if there's ever a quiet period in the show where he's not consistently distracted by crossbowing… we'll tackle it in the show.

He also added that AMC would be onboard with Daryl being gay. We've certainly had some moments in the show that explore Daryl's emotional life and his sense of self. Given that these gears are turning with regards to his romantic and sexual life (if Daryl proves ultimately interested in either), it will be interesting to see what happens if and when the show addresses it.

I read about this the other day and just dismissed it because they have hinted at that he has/had feelings for Carol at one point and then most recently with Beth. So, not really sure where or why the idea of him being gay was even brought up as it was never something that even crossed my mind.

Episode 1
No Sanctuary

I just watched the greatest episode of TWD and it was un-f*cking-believable!!! I know I have gushed about a couple of previous episodes that I held in high regard, but those episodes just can not compare to the EPIC premiere tonight. All summer long I have been waiting to see how Rick and the gang would escape their captors at Terminus. Last season I said that it would be Carol that would be the one to save them all. We knew it had to be her, but it was still great that she was in fact the savior. But what I did not foresee was how f*cking bad-ass she would be!!! There is a nice call back to Season 1 when she covers herself up with Walker guts so that she could blend in with the other walkers and gain access to Terminus. From there, it's all carnage. The guys from TWD really stepped up their game and made this extremely gory, especially the bloodletting in the trough. Sick. Not as in awesome, but as in gross. It was wild to see that the first guy to get it was Robin Lord Taylor, better known to the world now as Penguin on Gotham.

There were two great moments that took place apart from one another. Of course there was Terminus. But lets not forget about Tyreese who not only took on a horde of Walkers, but managed to still save Baby Grimes from his own captor. Epic indeed. What really made this an episode for the ages is that it's wall to wall action and explosions. But just when you think that's all there is to it, TWD went and did something I never thought would be associated with the series. It got me choked up. When Darryl and Carol were reunited together, I got teary-eyed. I got a lump in my throat when Rick and Carl were reunited with Baby Grimes. Such a great episode.

FYI, I'm so glad that the writers did away with Terminus. One of the things that got long in tooth was how much time we spent in both the Prison as well as Woodbury. I just didn't want Season 5 to be all about Terminus because it would just be the same sh*t....different location. My worries were all for naught as they literally burned it to the ground.

The Sexy Redhead Maid From ‘American Horror Story’ Is Coming To ‘The Walking Dead’

In a post-apocalyptic zombie hellscape, things are going to get dirty. I mean, when was the last time CORAL washed his disgusting hat? So, maids, especially sexy maids, are more important than ever, which I assume is why The Walking Dead tapped Alexandra Breckenridge, who played a young Moira O’Hara during the first season of American Horror Story, for a recurring role.

Quote
Sources tell THR that the actress…will recur in season five with an option to be promoted to a series regular in season six. While specific details about Breckenridge’s character are being kept under wraps, the casting breakdown described the role of “Samantha” as an attractive, strong, smart, charming and articulate woman with a vulnerable side. Episode 2
Strangers

A great followup to the epic we got last week. This one was a bit slower for obvious reasons. After the high intensity of escaping Teminus, the characters as well as the viewer needed some downtime to relax. With that said, this episode "served" up the most shocking turn of events in the series. Well, for me it was the most shocking. When Bob gets dragged into the woods, I thought it was Morgan (Lennie James). I expected to see Gareth rear his ugly head eventually, but not tonight. The "kicker" is that when Bob finally wakes up, he discovers that Gareth is eating his leg. I literally had a what the f*ck reaction to it. Also shocking was seeing that guy that Tyresse supposedly killed last week alive and well and feasting on Bob's leg as well. Elsewhere, I like that it's Daryl and Carol heading off to rescue Beth. And no, I don't trust the Priest one bit. Last thing, what the hell is Bob thinking going outside alone to cry? Dumb! I originally thought that he had been bitten by the Walker under water and after getting one last kiss, I figured he was going outside to kill himself to keep him from turning. Had that been the case, then I'd have accepted him going out alone. But to cry? What the hell man!! Use your head!

Episode 3
Four Walls and a Roof

Other than a major bloodbath that really drives home the idea that it's a new regime for Team Rick is Kill or be Killed as they have their vengeance on Team Gareth, the episode was more somber than anything else. It was really about saying goodbye to Bob and I actually liked this episode a lot because of that. Usually on the show, everyone that does meet their end happens in a grisly way. So with Bob infected, it was just a waiting game. I didn't like Bob at the start, but over time the character grew on me. So I was kinda sad to see him go, just like everyone else. As for Gareth, I'm so glad they killed him off and didn't let this drag out any longer than it needed to be.

Episode 4
Slabtown

This episode threw me for a complete loop. The entire time you are watching it, you are kept on your heels because you really don't know what is happening or if it's even real. I kept thinking one of two things the first half hour. Either this was a moment in Beth's life before the events of TWD took place or it was some sort of fever dream. Well, it was neither, which made it even more bizarre. For 4 full seasons, we have basically been out in the woods with the characters and now Beth is being sheltered in a Hospital and life is back to "normal". Hell, they even have a janitor mopping the floors!!!! In spite of this being a complete 180 for what I've come to expect from the series, I dug it. I like the final scene that has Carol being wheeled in on a gurney. We obviously know she and Daryl are using the Trojan Horse method to gain access to Beth. Can't wait to see how it plays out. I like the addition of Tyler James Williams who I haven't seen since the demise of Go On.

Episode 5
Self Help

I found this episode to be very dull and I didn't like the idea of having to spend an hour with Abraham and is getting more and more annoying with each passing episode. On top of that, watching his flock of sheep following a man that is constantly putting them at risk just doesn't make sense. I personally would never follow someone so blindly, just because he is a "Soldier". If it wasn't for the final 5 minutes, this episode would have been a complete bust. But the big reveal was worth slogging through the episode. I always suspected that Eugene was full of sh*t regarding his "knowledge" about the cure to save the world. The moment of 'truth' when he confesses to the group that he's full of sh*t, it was great because you can see the wind literally being taken out of their sails as it was all for naught. Props to the sex scene with Rosita.

I will start off by saying that I really enjoyed this Carol / Daryl-heavy episode. I liked seeing the evolution of Carol and using specific scenes over the course of the series to highlight how far she has come. With that said, this was one giant tease. Hell, the past 3 weeks fall into that category. 3 Weeks back, when Daryl steps out of the woods, it's safe to assume that the person he calls out of the woods will be Noah. So, it's kind of frustrating that they have delayed the rescue of Beth for another week. I'm sure that next weeks episode will open up with the aforementioned scene and rounding up Rick and company to mount a team rescue of Beth. I don't think they will delay the episode I have been waiting for another week. At least I hope not. Getting back to this episode, I like the final scene when Carol gets hit by the car. No, I'm not happy or sadistic. I just like the idea that the writers flipped what we all thought was a Trojan Horse plot that we all assumed was why and how Carol ended up in the Hospital to get to Beth.

Sasha! What the f*ck is wrong with you? You are so much smarter than that. Seriously, with all the sh*t that has gone down since the world ended, and all the f*cked up people you have run into since then, what the f*ck would posses you to turn your back on a Cop, a stranger you know NOTHING about? Of course he was going to bum rush your ass. Fail! The episode as a whole was decent, but way too slow. It was more set up for next weeks Mid-Season Finale. And what the f*ck is up with Abe? He spends the entire episode sitting in the middle of the road, pouting like a petulant child. Dude, you got played big time by Eugene, deal with it and move on.

Coda

Oh shiiiiiiiiiiit! There aren't that many shows out there that continually susprise me and I don't mean in a good way either. I'm talking about bone chilling shock that comes out of nowhere. Sure, there were rumors leading into the mid-season finale that someone was going to die. But the time it got to the end of the episode, I had forgotten all about the rumor. So when Dawn shoots Beth in the head, it truly was jarring for me. My immediate reaction was "what the f*ck just happened" followed by anger. I had grown to like Beth throughout the course of the series. She may have rubbed certain fans the wrong way, but I thought that was the best part of her. The immediate retaliation by Daryl in killing Dawn was immense joy because I absolutely hated her and wanted her gone.

You gotta hand it to the writers for having the balls to kill off a character that had the potential for an even bigger story regarding a possible romance with Daryl or even Noah. It's easy for writers to kill off characters that are not fan favorites or had just run their course. But for Beth....they proved that no one is safe on the show. Maggie's reaction was expected and sad to see. Now we have a 2 month wait until the return in February. FYI, kill off Gabriel. Can't stand him either.

Watching Talking Dead after the monumental episode was just as sad as well. Everytime Emily Kinney, who plays Beth broke down, my eyes were welling up. Even when Lauren Cohan (Maggie) and Norman Reedus (Daryl) talk about how hard it was letting go of  Emily, I was sad.

I love the fan loyalty of the series and I too am still bummed about her demise. As much as I would like to see her return, it will NEVER happen or they risk compromising the integrity of the show by doing so.

I didn't watch that because quite frankly boo-hoo.

Really?

What's the reasoning behind that? There is no good answer.

The show is successful... because the unexpected happens... a lot. Even the death of key characters.

People have way to much time on their hands.

What Happened and What's Going On

Beth returns! Bob returns! Lizzie and Mika return! The Governor returns! What the f*ck! This was all great, but it comes at the expense of another favorite character on the show: Tyreese. The writers of the show just don't care who they kill off. Look, I'm okay with them killing off a popular character maybe once a year or every other year. But with Beth going in the last episode and Bob before that and now Tyreese, it's a bit too much. I was p*ssed at the outcome, but with that said, I thought this was a fantastic episode. Loved the new visual style they went with and the creative editing. Best scene was in fact Tyreese final scene with Beth, Bob, Lizzie and Mika welcoming him to the other side. In death, the love come through loud and clear. It was bittersweet.

Haven't been able to respond to your question until I watched the episode. Seriously, it took On Demand until Thursday (today) for them to put it up. F*ck!!! Anyway, about this episode.....it was just okay. I can imagine that TWD fan boys are probably ripping this one to shreds given how slow it was. Honestly, if it wasn't for the barn "attack", I'd probably be right there as well. The ending with the suit guy has me intrigued. I hope it's good news that he comes bearing because I'm kind of losing patience with the show with nothing but bad guys crossing their path. One interesting thing of note was Rick finally name dropping the title of the show, referring to his group as "the walking dead". Trying to remember if it has been mentioned before. I'm pretty sure this was the first time.

If this got any slower, it'd go backwards.

But seriously, one of the few to make you feel the heat, tired and serious hunger they are enduring.

The Distance

It's funny that in the previous episode I was hoping that the stranger that pops up at the end would be a good guy because I for one have gotten tired of the same "meet someone new, turns out to be evil" plot point. So, even though I wanted this new character to be good, I still couldn't take him at face value, not matter how 'nice' he was and that he hadn't done anything to tip him off as being evil, except for the car ride when he had an excuse for why there were no people in the photographs. Even though he got the gang to the compound, I'm still not convince everything is on the up and up. Rick may have softened a bit by the end, I for one have not.

Rick isn't softening up willingly. Michone and the others are tired and desperate and need to take the chance for some normalcy. He's loosened a little.

Remember

I am just as jaded as Rick is. I don't trust anyone in Alexandria. It's Woodbury all over again. The only difference is that it's not the Governor running the show, but a Congress Woman. Her two sons are accidents waiting to happen. Actually, it already happened which caused them to lose people from their flock before the arrival of Rick and the gang. I got immense pleasure out of seeing Glenn knocking the sh*t out of the guy. I just wish he had done more damage. Seeing Rick without his beard was odd to say the least. Seeing him wearing a Sheriff uni even more so. I'm not sure if he is going "bad", but his demeanor at the end when he says to Carol that if the town can't make it, then they will take the town for themselves. Interesting. I still don't get how Rick would agree to let them take all of their weapons given what they have been through lately. Made no sense.

I don't think you will EVER see me give an episode 5 Stars and still be royally p*ssed off about what I just watch. Yes, as you can guess, I'm furious that they killed off Noah. He wasn't on the show long, but he quickly became one of my favorite characters on the show and it's because of his innocent nature. In a dark world, he did bring light into it and that's why I thought he and Beth would have been a great couple because they were so alike. As for getting rid of Noah, like I said, p*ssed. I don't like investing in characters only to have them taken away. This season is ridiculous in the amount of carnage they are doing to main characters.

Noah wasn't the only one to die. Aiden finally got what was coming to him and I couldn't have been happier. One of the most inept characters ever. Well, all of Alexandria is pretty worthless. I'm surprised that Abraham didn't go apesh*t on the others given his blood lust for Walkers. Can't wait to see who is going to dish out vengeance on the guy that was the direct reason for Noah's death. Another f*cked up moment comes at the end with the betrayal by Gabriel ratting on Rick and the gang to Deeana about "evil things they have done. What a f*cking hypocrite! Like he's squeaky clean. I want him gone!!!  It's just a question of who is going to gut him. 3 Cheers for Eugene! He finally grew a pair.

Conquer

With just a couple of small teases throughout the season, I was beginning to wonder if Morgan (Lennie James) would ever make an "appearance" this season. Well, I finally got my answer with the opening scene and it was great. He didn't have a lot of scene time in this expanded 90 minute season finale, but the scenes he does have have a major impact, especially when he saves Daryl and Aaron from certain doom. His finally scene at the end when he comes face to face with Rick was good because it's ambiguous. Where do they go from here now that he has witness Rick executing Pete? That's for next season. Overall a great episode that could be best described as a Powder Keg waiting to go off. The finale 15 minutes were the most intense with 3 separate stories being intercut with each other. Glenn should have killed Nicholas. He shot Glenn and he still saves him!!! WTF! Sasha should have killed Gabriel just because. And well, we know that Rick does in fact kill Pete. But I just find Deana to be nothing but a hypocrite. If it doesn't effect her, then HER law IS the law. But as soon as her husband is killed by Pete, the gloves come off. FYI, Carol has been the MVP for this season without a doubt. One last thing, I do need an explanation of how Glenn survived the Walker dog-pile he was under.
