When I picked up my copy of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty from the Library, I decided to drop it off with my Mom first and let her watch it since I already had a full plate of stuff to watch. I went back later and she didn't finish the movie. I ask her why and she thought the movie was "boring". I said ok, grabbed the DVD and got out of there before she said anything else. I was worried that the movie was going to suck as I popped it into the DVD player. Based on the trailer, I was kind of expecting a certain kind of Ben Stiller movie. If there are multiple characters, you know where he is taking it. Or so I thought. Yes, there are a few instances where he does his Schick. But this isn't his typical movie. It's actually shot beautifully, which is something I didn't think he had in him. His movies have never really called for anything quite so majestic.

In a nutshell, Walter Mitty is a chronic daydreamer who imagines himself in wondrous situations, a man who himself hasn't lived life. It's only out of necessity does Mitty take on an adventurous path, globe trotting the world in search of an answer..."Image 25" that is suppose to adorn the final cover of LIFE magazine. Along the way he is pining after the girl of his dreams played by the awesome Kristen Wiig. Be on the look out for Sean Penn, Adam Scott and Patton Oswalt as well. After the movie, I headed back to my Mom's to ask her what she thought was wrong with the movie. She said it wasn't funny like the original Danny Kaye version, which she loved. I'm not sure if I have ever seen the original. Maybe I did as a kid since I watched a lot of his other films. Whether I did or didn't, because of her enthusiasm for it, I will definitely be checking it out. As for the Ben Stiller version, I say definitely give it a shot. I like it and I thought the final cover of LIFE magazine was perfect. I was trying to guess what it could be. I was almost right. So close!!
