Episode 1
Shadows

I liked the opening, which took place in during WWII / Nazi / Hydra era, which in itself served as a prelude for the forthcoming Agent Carter series that arrives at the conclusion of Season 2 of SHIELD. This also served as the set up for present day when it comes to an artifact that both Hydra and SHIELD are in pursuit of. Along for the ride is Lucy Lawless. But it seems her tenure is short-lived as she's killed off before the end of the episode. But this show being what it is, I wouldn't count her out just yet. It was the ending that gave us a nice twist that even I didn't see with regards to Fitz. He is still recovering from his near death experience at the end of Season 1 and is recuperating as best as he can with the help of Simmons. Only thing is that she is no longer part of the team and the conversations he had with her the full episode was all in his head.

Great discussion. I liked how they even name dropped Wesley from Angel when comparing the character to Ward. I'd like to see them go that route for the character as well.

Episode 2
Heavy Is the Head

With all the espionage this show feeds off and all the 'Superheroes' it serves, I find it fascinating that after just 2 episodes this season, the most intriguing story line centers on Fitz and Simmons. There is just something universal about wanting to see someone at their lowest point in life to rebound and regain their former self. It's not much, but every time Fitz is on the verge of remembering something, it's a huge win. Really looking forward to finding out what has become of Simmons and what her relationship will be toward Fitz. Most likely.....not good. There will definitely be some resentment from him toward her once he does remember that she bailed on him.

Episode 3
Making Friends and Influencing People

Well, we finally get the answer we have all been waiting for since the start of the season and it's a doozy. It turns out that the reason Jemma Simmons left SHIELD and Fitz is that she is now working as a mole in Hydra. If they can't defeat them from the outside, why not try from the inside. I think their intention is noble and that they think this is a good idea that is going to work. But this is how I see it playing out. Eventually Simmons will in fact be turned and become a real soldier for Hydra and the one person that will be able to bring her back to the good side will of course be Fitz. It HAS to be him and I think in the process of bringing her back, it will in essence save himself.....bringing back the part of him that is now missing. I really liked the scene where Fitz confronts Ward for the first time since he tried to "kill" him and Simmons. Very powerful moment for everyone involved.

Episode 4
I Will Face My Enemy

The best part about this episode is that the majority of it was all Coulson and May. They have always had great chemistry together, but this one was very funny. They hit all the "jokes" at the right moment and speaking of hits....nothing is gonna top Coulson punching Fake May in the face. Even better than that was watching May kicking her own ass. Very amusing and very fun episode. I like that Fitz is coming around and starting to be a bit more social with the others......with the prodding of Phantom Simmons that is. Can't wait till next week as Adrianne Palicki finally makes her debut. It's gonna be good.

Episode 5
A Hen in the Wolfhouse

Even though I knew that Adrianne Palicki as Mockingjay would be making her debut in this episode, I knew absolutely nothing about the character and it paid off in a big way for me at least. Everyone else that is an avid reader of all things Marvel and the characters within already knew what I didn't know...that she is an Avenger. But since I was completely in the dark about her, I really did buy that she was a Hydra soldier. So when Raina threatened to exposed to Hydra that Simmons was the mole and Coulson didn't back down and let her become the 'sacrificial lamb' for the team, it was with great glee that I saw Bobbi / Mockingjay "turn" on Hydra to extract Simmons from danger. The other cool thing was seeing her in action. She's kinda like the Black Widow in a way. If you can't get Scarlett Johansson on the show, this is the next best thing. The long awaited reunion between Fitz and Simmons was more sad that anything else. She really f*cked him up by leaving.

Episode 6
A Fractured House

It didn't take a genuios to figure out that Ward would escape at the end. It's a well-worn plot that whenever there is any kind of prisoner transport that he or she will in fact escape custody. But the thing is, even though he was with Hydra and has been locked up in SHIELD's prison for interrogation, I always had it in the back of my mind that there was something more going on, that he would turn out to be a good guy. That perhaps he was working for another faction of SHIELD that even Coulson didn't know about. Well, that theory is shot given the fact that he just shot one of the guards. I don't know what to think now. He could still be working within SHIELD and killing that solider was collateral damage. We shall see.

Episode 7
The Writing on the Wall

Damn good episode that finally reveals exactly what Coulson and other Tahiti patients have been writing. Turns out that it's a City. What City.....who knows. Where it's at.....your guess is as good as mine. Even though we didn't get everything, it was enough to make this a solid hour and I like that Ward is now out and about and seemingly handing SHIELD high priority targets, which makes me think that my initial thought of him being a Triple Agent back on point. Why am I not surprised to see Joel Gretsch pop up on this show? He seems like a perfect fit given all his other alien-ish series he has done over the years. I hope that Brian Van Holt has a much larger role to play in the future.

Episode 8
The Things We Bury

Fantastic episode that revealed even more stuff that has been hidden for awhile. I think the best part about the episode was seeing that there was more than meets the eye with regards to Skye's father, The Doctor. We see why he went mad (hit wife being butchered in the name of "science") at the hands of Whitehall. And we see why he has joined ranks with him (to get his vengeance of course). This new revelation of Skye's mother being 'special' also reaffirms that Skye most likely has the same abilities. She just needs to find it and then use it. It will most likely manifest itself against Whitehall as she is most likely to be the one to kill him. We also got a nice back story with Agent Carter and Whitehall. This will definitely launch into the forthcoming series. Can't wait.  Wards story got even more interesting as he hunted down and eventually killed his own brother.

Episode 9
Ye Who Enter Here

The series kind of took a huge step backwards given how kick ass the previous episode was. I was expecting to get more of The Doctor and Ward as they have an alliance now. But, that didn't happen here. Rather than pick up where they left off last week (no Doctor and only one scene with Ward), we spend the bulk of the episode rescuing Raina from Hydra, only to have her surrender herself to them willingly. I was just hoping for something much bigger than what we got here. One bright spot is that we got more Patton Oswalt.

Episode 10
What They Become

What the f*ck! Just like tonight's episode on the Flash (The Man In The Yellow Suit), this was EPIC! The ending was crazy and heartbreaking at the same time. Not really sure what happened at the end. Both Raina and Skye are able to touch the obelisk because they share the or have the same blood/DNA. But, based on the transformation, they each responded to it differently. What little we see, what I saw is that Raina was exhibiting talons as well as serpent eyes. Skye on the other hand,,,,,,,,not sure. Still looks the same but was "slowing down time" or maybe that was just for dramatic effect as she realizes that Antoine Triplett is dead and is literally being blown to dust. So sad. We finally got the reunion between Skye and her father and it was both disturbing and exhilarating to see. I like how his life's mission is to kill Whitehall and right at the moment he is going to do it, Coulson takes the shot. Now, the fight that was suppose to happen between him and Whitehall suddenly is against Coulson and it was epic. Now the long wait begins. Agents doesn't return until March. Sigh. At least I have Agent Carter to look forward to. I need to go back and re-watch tonight's episode. I know I miss out on a few things. I did pick up on the revelation that Skye's real name is Daisy as in Daisy Johnson (aka Quake).

Aftershocks

Really glad the show is back. Been gone for way too long. It was probably the one show I was most anxious to get back to since the epic Fall Cliffhanger. I like the new dynamic they are cultivating with Fitz and Skye. I was surprised to see him keeping her secret from the rest. Was pretty certain he was going to tell the rest of the team what Skye was. Can't wait to see how this story unfolds. Coolest thing about this episode was Raina's new Inhuman character look. Digging it a lot. Hopefully she's going to get a much bigger part on the show now.

Episode 21 and 22
S.O.S. Part 1 and Part 2

Yeah, I didn't bother writing any reviews for the second half of the season because it was very uneven and at times very boring. I was still actively watching the series but I found myself wondering if I would even bother sticking with the show. The first half of the season was very good and they had a great mid-season finale to hold us over while Agent Carter took center-stage for a couple of months. I think I ended up building up the second half of AOS way too much and when it finally came back, it just felt flat. The last few episodes did hit its stride leading us into S.O.S. Boy, did they go all out! I thought it was fantastic and everyone had their own little part to play in it. For starters, there were some amazing figth sequences throughout the 2 hour Season Finale. Skye's showdown with May was awesome, but it was the fight sequence between Bobbi and Ward that stole the show and set the standard of what one should be like. Brutal knockdown, drag-out fight and executed to perfection. Also brutal was seeing Coulson getting his arm chopped off by Mack. As soon as Coulson's arm was starting to freeze from the virus, I knew the axe was coming down because they spent enough time pointing out that Mack had an axe.

The subplot between Skye and her parents was good, forcing her to pick a side and naturally she would choose SHIELD, which meant that she would have to put down her own mother. I thought it was a great moment for Cal to do the deed to spare Skye the guilt of doing something so tragic. I like that out of this event, Cal was able to get his "happily ever after..." moment with his daughter. His "hulking" moment earlier was a bit too comical, but necessary. The other subplot involving Fitz and Simmons was what we have all been waiting for. I knew something bad was going to happen the moment that Simmons was honest with Fitz about her feelings toward him. I just didn't know who was going to suffer for it once they set up their future date. Having Simmons getting swallowed up by the Alien Blob-thingy sets up Season 3. Not sure if she is dead or not. That's the cliffhanger and I'm definitely tuning in next season to find out what happens next.
