Title: Modified Game videos
Post by: Neumatic on August 17, 2014, 05:11:20 pm
Because I love this kind of thing: fans taking the source code and remastering games, adding new levels, or just toying with the whole thing.

Plus, I wanted an excuse to post this:  a hundred+ levels of Mario Kart Wii, including remakes of (evidently) all the classic tracks from the older generations.  Beware, though: LOTS of commercials.

And while we're talking mods, someone's reamking Shenmue in HD.  Shenmue is one of those games that captured my imagination b/c at the time, I got this impression it would be like playing a movie.  Looking back at the graphics... whoa.  Very low-rez.  Odds are this will never get done, but still...

Great thread! Even though I have never played Mario Kart as I've never owned, let alone played a Wii console, I do however love MODS for any game. It does had something unique to the game itself and does teach the developers a thing or two.

I still have my N64 with Mario Kart, my sister and I used to play it all the time.  One of these days, we'll rev up again (and I love that Mario Kart 8, which is gorgeous, remastered some of the original tracks).

Barring cost, do you ever see yourself getting a new console that plays today's games? Talking about Xbox or Playstation....or even a new Wii.

No, I don't think so... even when I played games, I wasn't very good at them.  I would consider getting one of those retro machines that plays old NES/SNES/Sega games... but then I'd have to go shopping for all those old cartridges.

Courtesy of ****: Halo Kart!  Interesting to see a Kart game without cartoonish whimsy.

The hardest custom Mario level in existence... defeated.

I think even computers fail at this level sometimes, so this is really something.

Yeah, I saw this and was blown away. Rumor has it that the guy that did the "mod" for this swiped the code from the PC version of Vice City and stuck it in GTA V. Whether he did or not doesn't diminished what we get here at all. Love it. Brings back a lot of fond memories of playing VC.

Super Mario in Unreal Engine... the Mario model needs some new texture (like Pixar style) but the lighting... oh I love it.
