Title: Hero of the Day Thread
Post by: Chiprocks1 on August 18, 2014, 09:42:36 pm
Ya know, why should there be just a Douche of the Day Thread? We gotta give props for those that go above and beyond the call of the duty. So, as the title suggest, all Heroes go here. And now, the TV show doesn't count.  ;D

It didn't feel right posting this in the Glorious Win thread. It may have had a good outcome at the end, but there's nothing glorious about anyone being put in a situation of harm. So, I figured this story was the one to kick off this thread. I liked seeing a few complete strangers helping out another. I will say that the one in the Van that stops and then just drives on through the smoke deserves his own place in the Douche thread.

Ya know, it's very hard to find anything, let alone news with something good in the content.

I agree that there is so few good things out there that this thread is not going to "fly up the charts" anytime soon. It's kinda like mining for Gold. You know it's there, it's just gonna take a lot longer to get to it.

More... more of this man and many like him.

Dutch Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb

Fellow Muslim immigrants 'can f--- off' if they are not grateful for freedom of speech: Dutch mayor

Quote
The outspoken Moroccan-born mayor of Rotterdam said fellow Muslim immigrants "can f--- off" if they are not grateful for freedom of speech, the British newspaper The Telegraph reported Tuesday.

Ahmed Aboutaleb made the eye-popping statement after last week's terror attacks on the Paris satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo that left 12 people dead, including 10 journalists.

"It is incomprehensible that you can turn against freedom," Aboutaleb said in his speech, according to The Telegraph. "But if you do not like freedom, in Heaven’s name pack your bag and leave.

"There may be a place in the world where you can be yourself," he continued. "Be honest with yourself and do not go and kill innocent journalists. And if you do not like it here because humorists you do not like make a newspaper, may I then say you can f--- off."

Aboutaleb is a "secular Muslim" whose father was an imam in Morocco, The Telegraph reported. He moved to the Netherlands in 1976 when he was a teenager, and has been under some fire for having dual passports, the newspaper reported.

The 53-year-old Aboutaleb's comments were praised by London Mayor Boris Johnson as "the voice of the Enlightenment, of Voltaire."

"We can and will protect this country against these jihadist thugs," Johnson wrote in The Telegraph. "We will bug them and monitor them and arrest them and prosecute them and jail them. But if we are going to win the struggle for the minds of these young people, then that is the kind of voice we need to hear – and it needs above all to be a Muslim voice."

Detroit Man Who Walked 21 Miles To Work Surprised With A New Car

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2NTTQqJuwE

I was going to post this in Glorious Wins, but when I thought about it, this is really more about personal endurance and drive to make such a long trek and do it day in and day out. For that reason alone, I think he is a hero just by sheer will and determination. He is the prime example of what the human mind can do when it stays the course. The bonus of course is getting a new car.

This article will enlighten you that not all Owners are bad. The Padres Organization gets my seal of approval for Hero of the Day for the past 20 years going out of their way to take care of one of their own. Great read.

This is awesome from start to finish. The only negative I have with the video is the title. It does a huge disservice and doesn't represent what they are trying to achieve here. People or more likely not to check it out because of the title which would deprive people of something truly epic.
