Episode 1 & 2
2017 / Ron & Jammy

Not a bad way to kick off the New Year with a double shot of Parks and Recreation. Wasn't sure how they were going to set up Season 7 given how they 'Closed' the end of Season 6 in the future. So, everything this season takes place 2 years from now in 2017, which gives the writers headroom to create their own "future", be it the Chicago Cubs finally winning a World Series and other inside jokes. But the trippiest thing was seeing that in 2017, it's normal for everyone to have a portable 'Minority Report' device that's basically a step up from the stone age device that is the iPhone. This whole future things just seems really odd and feels like they are trying to carve out their own Back To The Future moment. Also weird is seeing the P&R gang split into two 'warring' factions with Leslie on one side and Ron on the other.

Fun hour that provided a few great moments that had me howling with delight. Leslie's impression of Tammy 2was off the charts hilarious and Councilman Jamm trying to quit Tammy 2cold turkey had me in stitches. But it was Tammy 2herself that stole the night when she tries to seduce Jamm by stripping her clothes off in the library and then going apesh*t when she failed to seduce him. Megan Mullally for the win! It was kinda cool that I got to watch Guardians of the Galaxy earlier in the night and then finish the evening with more Chris Pratt. Two totally opposite characters.

Eh. Episode was just okay for me. Best moment comes at the end when Ben and the rest of the gang lock Leslie and Ron in the room to force them to reconcile. I hope they clue us in exactly what this Morning Star is and what happened and they better do it soon. They keep planing this Morning Star seeds all over the place. Need to know...NOW!

You didn't see episode 4 yet?  Get on that.  It's good.

This is the first season of P&R I'm watching as it airs, and that's only b/c I know they're burning off the episodes two at a time.

Article on The Baffler on Parks and Rec's utopian vision of government (http://www.thebaffler.com/blog/utopian-pawnee-parks-rec/).  Though I don't know if I agree with everything the article is saying, it's certainly food for thought.

Episode 4
Leslie and Ron

Quite possibly one of the best episodes in the series and the fact that it was just Ron and Leslie for the bulk of the episode, locked in a room made it all the more better.......and fitting. The best dialogue on onscreen chemistry and always derived from these two. So, it fascinating to watch current enemies basically telling us the story of what happened the past 2 years and along the way rekindle their friendship. There is a lot to love about this episode and Leslie's rendition and butched lyrical version of 'We Didn't Start the Fire' was, is and will always be f*cking classic. It had me laughing with delight. Loved that by 8am they were not only friends again, but acting like complete morons....saxophone and all.  ;D

Episode 5
Gryzzlbox

Super funny episode that more or less spells out how Skynet reeeeeeeally begins.  ;D I like that the gang is now coming together to fight a common enemy, with Ron being the last to join. Best moment of the episode was the end with Ron at Leslie and Ben's doorstop, having just killed a "robot". Hahaha. We get more hi-tech stuff in this episode and it actually worked within the context of this episode. Even Tom's and Andy's story line was good. Props for having Dax Shepard guest-star.

Watching Gryzzl Box now.  I like how Craig goes to the same therapist that Rob Lowe's character did.  I also love that they both say his name, Dr Richard Nygard, whenever they talk about him.  What the heck goes on in those sessions?

I also like how they're touching on the privacy issues inherent with technology and data-mining, I remember this sort of thing coming out ages ago.  Though it's strange that they didn't bring up the fact that the government data mines as well, we just heard about the fact that the healthcare.gov site was selling data to advertisers, which is a huge violation of public trust.

Episode 6
Save JJ’s

I liked this episode for a couple of reasons. First was the return of Dennis Feinstein, Pawnee's resident Perfume man. He doesn't get much to do, but it's always memorable and watching him spray down the protesters with his latest invention using fire hoses was priceless. I just wish he had gotten more scenes throughout the series. The other thing that made this episode good was seeing Craig taking over Tom's restaurant as Manager.....for all of 2 minutes. His response to getting fired was also priceless. I'm glad the gang is back together now because it has opened the door to more Craig outbursts. That guy is f*cking nuts!!

Episode 7
Donna and Joe

Anyone else find it kind of weird that Donna and Joe had an entire episode devoted to their wedding? Their relationship was more or less cobbled together for a couple of episodes and nothing was really made of it while it was haqppening. This isn't a love story on par with legit once that anchored other series. I didn't care about their relationship as it never really existed. With that said, the episode was funny for a lot of reasons. A drunk, dancing Ben Wyatt is tops in my book and Ron constantly putting his foot in his mouth, trying to help Tom get with his "girl" was another. I thought the inside joke pertaining to 867-5309 was a good one.

Man, have you watched any of the eps since?  I think there's been... four or five since you last updated.  And I don't wanna say anything about them, lest I ruin anything.

Episode 8 and Episode 9
Ms. Ludgate-Dwyer Goes to Washington / Pie-Mary

Watched both of these back to back today and I thought they were great. The Washington episode naturally lends itself to Politician cameos for the benefit of Leslie and it didn't disappoint. I'm not big on people in politics and normally don't care to see them at all. But with P&R, it's an absolute must because I love seeing Leslie getting ga-ga for them. Loved the scenes between Leslie and April. Very funny and very touching moments as she tries to help April get the job she wants. Loved it when April called her "Mom" out of embarrassment. But the absolute best moment of the night was Andy, wearing an 'April' mask does his best to convince a possible employer to hire her. Both creepy and insanely funny. The Pie-Mary episode was equally funny. I'm glad they finally gave Jerry and Donna some scenes together, especially so close to the end of the series. Both touching and funny. It was classic Jerry, seeing him constantly dropping stuff down the drain. I'm gonna miss seeing that on a weekly basis. Both episodes get 5 Stars.

I had to wait an insane amount of time for Roku to put the episodes up on OnDemand. FYI, whoever is in charge of this SUCKS! Seriously, they have been f*cking up a lot of my TV Series as nothing has a set timetable for when stuff gets put up. It ranges from the day after to just completely omitting episodes all together. Sigh. Anyway, I will most likely save the final 4 episodes to watch all at once because I want an event night for myself. I've been with this show since day one and I want to go out big with a 2 hour marathon!!! I do however have the Pie-Mary: The Director's Cut to watch. Will probably hit that later tonight. Yay me!!!!!!! :)

And most importantly, thank you for keeping this spoiler-free for me! Much appreciated.

And that's me having finished the show.  If it pops up in less than two months on Netflix I'll be p*ssed cause I could have waited THAT long.

Episode 10, 11 and 12
The Johnny Karate Super Awesome Musical Explosion Show / Two Funerals/ One Last Ride

Just got finished watching my final 2 hours of P&R marathon. I'm glad that I chose to do it this way because I knew that by the final scene it would feel incredibly short, which is did. As for the final 3 episodes, it was definitely different from what the rest of the series has been. For the Johnny Karate episode, it was like watching an entire episode of Pee-Wee's Playhouse. The only time they really went back into a typical scene was when Andy confronts April and reassures her that they are making the right decision to move. As for Two Funerals, everyone is sure to be talking about who they brought back which was clearly designed as a fan-service moment and I for one was happy they did. Who didn't want to see Paul Rudd, Henry Winkler, Sam Elliot, Jenny Slate and Ben Schwartz return? The kicker of course was somehow getting Bill Murray to do a cameo as    Walter Gunderson. Took me totally by surprised. I had no idea he going to do this.

As for One Last Ride, at first, I thought the idea of jumping way into the future to see where each character was in their life was a bit too much. But by the time we got to the end, I was glad they did it, especially seeing where Ron, Jerry and Leslie/Ben were in their own lives. The bonus was getting the return of Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe. It wouldn't have been the same if they didn't come back. All in all, they did a good job closing out the series. Next up, gotta buy the eventual DVD Box Set when it comes out. FYI, loved the idea that Christie Brinkley NEVER aged in spite of everyone else growing old. Haha. Also dug the Star-Lord cameo.

One of the kids on Halloween that knocked on Andy's door was dressed as Star-Lord.

Well, it's the first day of the Film Festival (that's what that weird colour splat in the background is, the edge of the logo frame), and he was in one of the shorts in the program.  Minor, minor role, but he came out to support it.  And he was totally what you want Jim O'Heir to be.

So afterwards, after everyone did a Q&A, I went up to say hi and asked about this movie he's shooting with the Duplass Brothers, because I thought he should be in LA filming that, and I mentioned that my sister is working on that, and his eyes lit up when he heard her name, "everyone loves her, she's so great" etc etc.  And "I'm definitely telling her I ran into you," and right before I could say it, he suggested getting the picture together and sending it to her.

And you know what?  This isn't a rare occurrence.  Everyone I meet who knows her LOVES her.  I've never heard a bad word said about her, and if I illicit a quarter of the goodwill that she gets, I'd consider myself a pretty well-regarded guy.
