Simple put, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is a cool flick in every way. I've never seen one episode of the TV series it is based off of, but I can't only imagine that they nailed it when it comes to the time and place the story takes place. Aesthetically, the movie looks fantastic. They spared no expense in recreating the early 60's. But more importantly, it's the film grain that brings it home. I've seen other movies attempt this, where they get the set piece right, but fail on the surface because they use the tech of today. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. really does look like it was filmed 50 years ago. At its basic, U.N.C.L.E. is very similar to Lethal Weapon with an easy alliance is forced upon the two main leads. Scratch that, it's more like Lethal Weapon 2 when you add a third wheel. An America, a Russian and a Brit. Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer and Alicia Vikander are all great. I think Henry did himself a world of good in this role. It made me forget that he is Superman. Guy Ritchie did a phenomenal job. This is a return to greatness. Easily his best film in years. Can't wait for the eventual sequel. Highly recommend this.
