Title: TV Guide Watchlist (What Shows Will You Be Watching?)
Post by: Mac on September 12, 2011, 12:22:47 pm
With a lot of discussion of what’s on TV, especially with the new season about to kick in and it will take several weeks if not a few months for these shows to premiere, it’s quite the task to track what all the chaos is.

TV Guide has instituted Watchlist. If it works like I think it will, I have a much better chance of catching shows.

I don’t have a DVR… don’t plan to get one. I watch more cable/satellite than network television… so with the combination, I have a good probability of missing shows.

Look it over… it also will indicate Netflix and other online available showings.

I’m going to try it out. Thought I’d mention it here and let’s see what happens.

This is cool and something that I was in dire need of. I signed up and added a lot of shows that I'm currently watching, as well as the new crop that's coming this fall. I added a few stragglers that look interesting. But my list isn't complete in that they don't have shows like That Metal Show, Rock And Roll Fantasy Camp as well a couple of others.

I did a search... in the lower right corner... on both and found them. Now according to the update, there is nothing new in the next 14 days. Is that correct?

Not correct. From the start of the season to the end, both run all episodes in order. And on top of that, the season is only 6-7 episodes long and we are just half way through. So taking a break now makes no sense...especially for 2 weeks.

Also, I can't find anything on Survivor, Amazing Race, The Ultimate Fighter and The Apprentice, all of which I want to add to my list.

I've added the previously mentioned shows. Just had to do a search function to find them as they were not in the initial add option.

Holy crap... how do you find time to watch?

I too realized putting my list together it got big fast. It will be interesting to see what I stick with.

I don't include those shows I know my wife will watch... it's a given, like Glee and Dancing With The Stars.

Le's see, what do I have on my list

Two and Half Men
2 Broke Girls
The Big C
Harry's Law
Person Of Interest
*Whitney
*Terra Nova
I hate my Teenage daughter
American Horror Story
Last Man Standing
Grimm
Enlightened
*Walking Dead
*The River

* I'm really interested in and make plans to watch

I work from home...remember? But it is funny how I can fit in TV shows, Movies, Books, Music and Video Games into my schedule while keeping work at the forefront. So, when I'm working I always have the TV or Hulu playing. And since I love to write (when I can) I will throw in reviews on everything to make up for not doing as much creative writing as I would like to do. THIS is something I will change soon and make it part of my everyday schedule, just like the other stuff up above.

It's kinda hard to see, but on the very right of the show line is an X to remove from the list.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Thanks for pointing that out. I did it the long way by going into Profile Management and then working my way over to Watchlist Management and then selecting Remove from each Show that's currently as a Watch.

Damn it!!

Glee and New Girl will not be up online until a week later. F*ck you Fox and Hulu!! I'm pretty sure more shows will follow suit. I may never watch another series again.

CBS ftw!!! I may hate their website, but they are by far my favorite of all the Studios, because unlike everyone else, they post the episodes 1 hour after broadcast. CBS, if you were a girl, I'd be feeling you up right now.

There's just too many shows on different channels, not to mention basic cable and paid subscription services to keep it all organized. And then there is Hulu refusing to air certain shows either a week later or up to 1 month after original air date. I'm lost yo! This is harder than my dick in the morning.

Funny thing happened on the way to watching all my new shows as I work. Before I was complaining that I had too many shows to watch. Now, it seems I can't even fill up half a day worth of shows while I work.

Go figure.

Need more shows.

Send me some ideas of shows you think I may like that's not currently on my Watchlist on Page 1 of this thread.

It's not that. Yet. I haven't actually run into any that are stinkers so far this season. I'm just realizing that I have more of the day to fill than the shows currently selected to do the job. I hate working in silence.

The Daily Show With Jon Stewart
The Colbert Report

Also, I adjusted the list to actually reflect the days of when you can see the episodes online, which is how I watch all the shows, as oppose to the original air dates.

I got a chance to catch Enlightened last night was Laura Dern, Luke Wilson and Charles Esten (Who’s Line Is It Anyway). It’s about a woman who has a breakdown from a office fling that failed. With the language and dialogue, this was definitely HBO. I guess this is being pushed as a dark comedy. I didn’t see the comedic aspects. I saw more drama that would fit on the Lifetime channel minus the language. It didn’t do much for me. It’s missing something. The Big C is a comedy and does a brilliant job of balancing funny with serious issues. Much like MASH would do. I’m not sure Enlightened  has what it takes. It definitely has the names, just not the writing.

So right from the start, a critic's point of view... and we all know how 'important' those thoughts are.

Quote
So apparently Tim Taylor had a secret family. Either that, or nobody thinks we'll realize that Last Man Standing is Home Improvement with daughters instead of sons. And groans, instead of laughs.

Kicking off last night despite the fervent prayers of TV Guide Magazine's Matt Roush, Tim Allen's new comedy tests the meaning of both "new" and "comedy." Using the Improvement template as a cookie cutter, the show casts Allen as a macho dimwit (sound familiar?) with a manly job (right?), a hot sensible wife (of course!) and a house full of smart-mouthed children. Only this time, it's smart-mouthed daughters — and that's what passes for an original idea around here.

Because ABC is counting on the folks who loved Improvement to eat up Standing, they presented a pair of episodes last night so we could get a full dose of parental doofery and "you're not a real man unless..." jokes. Sorry, that stuff may have flown back in the '90s when flannel was an acceptable look and Jonathan Taylor Thomas had a career, but today it just feels Cro-Mag. In fact, if it weren't such a reminder of one of ABC's other comedic misfires, this thing could have been called Last Caveman Standing.

Did you check out Tim Allen's return to TV? And will you be coming back again next week?

Well, seems the blogs (Watercooler (http://www.tvguide.com/News/Watercooler-Last-Man-Standing-1038608.aspx#commentsDiv)) have a slight different view.

more good news about Last Man Standing

Quote
Despite negative reviews, people were curious to see Tim Allen's new sitcom. Last Man Standing debuted to 12.95 million viewers and nabbed a 3.5 rating among industry-prized 18-to-49-year-olds, overnight Nielsen ratings showed.

ABC sounded happy afterward, noting that the show achieved the network's highest demo rating in the Tuesday at 8/7c time slot in nearly two years.

The comedy had to face one of the three top-rated shows on television, CBS' NCIS, which attracted 18.66 million viewers (3.9), yet managed to improve substantially upon No Ordinary Family's debut audience of 10.5 million.

Against NCIS and Allen's comeback, the first hour of The Biggest Loser on NBC drew 5.34 million people and The CW's 90210 1.54 million. Fox pre-empted its usual lineup for the third game of the ALCS between the Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers, averaging 7.93 million fans.

Sadly I’m done with Terra Nova. I have no desire to waste my time watching this mediocre show any longer. It was obviously clear, this show is trying to appeal to the 9 to 90 crowd and just falls flat doing so.

Now I can pay attention to the more entertaining shows like 2 Broke Girls, Two and Half Men, Mike & Molly and well just about anything else is more entertaining.

Hulu Getting CW Shows (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/29/hulu-getting-cw-shows_n_1065205.html)

I just found out about this last night. It's old news by now given that it was announced 3 weeks ago. But this is great news for me. The only shows I watch that is CW-related are Ringer, Nikita and 90210. Having these three shows on Hulu will make my life a littler easier because now I will get email notifications of when new episodes are up, something that the CW site does not have. Also, CW streaming is usually hit and miss and is not perfect. I was happy when ABC went to Hulu for the same reasons. One of my biggest pet peeves about how the CW streams is if the feed stalls at any point in the episode and you have to refresh to reload, it doesn't pick up the episode from the same spot. This means I have to rewatch from the beginning. Hulu doesn't have this problem.

There will be a delay of new episodes, most likely 8 days after original air date. I checked to see if the latest episode of 90210 was up on Hulu (it's not), even though it's been up for a couple of days on CW. I will wait for it to pop on Hulu as I am done with the CW site, which also plays the most annoying ads. Sometimes they play the same ad back to back to back to back to back. Grrrrrr.

Unless I can find an alternative, it looks like I will be dropping Falling Skies, Southland and Leverage from my list through no fault of my own. TNT has come up with the brilliant idea of locking every one of their shows online. The only way to unlock them is to provide an access code from a list of Cable providers. My provider isn't on their oh-so-special list. F uck TNT. I love both Southland and Leverage, but I'm not about to start jumping though hoops because TNT says so. It blows my mind how some of these networks think. They are cutting themselves off at the knees pulling s hit like this. I will just look to see if people upload episodes on YouTube. If it's not there, I will just wait for the DVD releases.

I’m not going to post individual posts and follow these. Just too much going on.

House of Lies (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_05star.gif)
Well the people behind this show know how to grab your attention. The opening minute has a nekkid Don Cheadle face buried in some female’s derrière, which turns out to be his ex-wife and chief competition in the consulting business. House of Lies is break neck storytelling, with tongue firmly in cheek. Often in the lightening paced dialogue, everything freezes, except Don Cheadle who then breaks the fourth wall and talks to the audience to explain things. I like it. It works.
The various storylines including his business, family and love life are all engaging and quite witty and surprising. Qualities that mean a lot to me.

Right off, my wife and I enjoyed the 30 minute show. We now have something to look forward to on Sunday evenings. Highly recommend.

Californication (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_05star.gif)
Wow, talk about coming late to the game. First time viewing, but it’s already in its fifth season. Similar to House of Lies, the cast of characters are unique and fun to watch. Apparently no subject is taboo here either. Following David Duchovney is a hoot. Instantly liked this show too. We may try to catch up a little Showtime On Demand is showing all of season 4.

Shameless (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_03star.gif)
Love William H Macy and his drunk, busted ass, lowlife character is too far and between in this chaotic plot. There was nothing here really grabbing me to stay on. While sprinkled with laid back humor, the story lines just lacked interest. Mostly likely will not follow this. It's not bad, but not great either.

It's a reality show. If Survivor isn't TV, then Face Off isn't either, regardless of its content. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/new_tongue.gif)

In my mind, shows like Survivor labeled as ‘reality’ is misleading. Survivor and Faceoff are game shows. The object is to win a prize.

Reality shows have sub-genres. Some I like such as American Chopper and Dirty Jobs. Snapshots of observing people in the things they do. Unfortunately many other ‘reality’ shows involve talentless people doing absolutely nothing of value.
I absolutely hate game shows.  I never understood watching other people on TV compete in games. I think this started in my childhood days of the Price Is Right, Password, Jeopardy, etc. I think my idea of hell would be to forcibly watch game shows and talentless reality shows.

Which brings me to dilemma some may state when I say I enjoy FaceOff… a game. I think the exception to my own rule is…

1) I could care less who wins. It’s not about winning.

2) It’s about the talent. It’s the journey, challenge and solution.  Not everybody can do these things. Unlike most game shows you are watching someone with luck get through the show, but watching a smart person know stuff is just as boring.

You could arguably say maybe I would enjoy Cupcake Wars or Tiara’s and Toddlers, but it only makes sense, I would have to have in interest in the subject of the game too.

This is why I love Survivor. A) I could care less about who actually wins and B) Getting to the end requires a lot of luck and manipulation on their part. Tic for tat, Dogg. I still would give Face Off a chance and see what it has to offer. I like the premise of the show. But I will only watch it if....

..you can name that tune in 3 notes. Now THAT is what I call a legit reality show.

FYI, just busting your reality balls for fun. It's early in the day for me here. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/HTL_biggrin.gif)

CBS can kiss my ass for the sh*t they are pulling, by actually pulling new episodes from online. Networks just don't get it at all. It's not just CBS, but all of them. Their mentality is flawed. They think they can "hook" new viewers by giving them a taste and then expect us to run to the TV when they purposely take away our options online. It won't work with me or the viewing public at large.

ABC tried this idiotic move with V. I was way into the new series for Season 1 and was looking forward to Season 2. Alas, there was no Season 2 online and I bailed on the show as did a lot of other people. TNT is now doing the same and I haven't cared less about resuming my watching habits with other favorite shows like Southland, Leverage, Falling Skies.

FX is guilty as well. They pulled Sons of Anarchy and Justified, these two being all time faves of mine.

NBC is guilty of doing it with Chuck this season.

So, CBS, get your head out of your asses because your "method" of luring new viewers is flawed. When you hook people into watching your shows online....you are hooking people that are always accustomed to watching their shows online and are already done with the old way of watching stuff on a TV. So your scare tactics will always fail with most people and then you run the risk or alienating those same people that keep your shows alive.

As great as Person Of Interest is, and it's my favorite new show this season, I won't be jerked around because you guys are idiots. And trust me, you guys are.

My 2 cents....

....which by the way will go to other Networks that don't pull crap like what you are doing. Feel free to delete this and try to bury my opinion to save face, because I know you will do exactly that.

This was my post over at the CBS forum and I wanted to make sure I kept it alive since I know for a fact that it will be pulled down. Have to save it here so that the dumb f uckers over there can't bury this completely.

Game Change - HBO (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_03halfstar.gif)

I remember hearing about HBO developing Game Change, not thinking much about it beyond that, mainly because I’m on the outer sphere of politics. After hearing a few people comment about how amazing Woody Harrelson is, I finally checked it out last night.

First I’ll say ‘Very Well Done’. Superb acting, the story was engaging and I was never bored or confused. The other side is Game Change is another perspective like Ides Of March on the slimy backstage machine of campaigning. It was sickening to see those politicians and their team ‘market’ a product to win, regardless of anything good for the country.

Many other reviews of Game Change are mostly positive and concentrate on the movie as a whole vs. what some people might interpret HBO’s political agenda? I think for most, it’s easy to pick a side. Either you thought well of Sarah Palin and watch the movie with sympathy or you hate her and confirm your suspicions. I clearly fall into the later. From the moment I heard and saw her, I knew it was a political move and it had nothing to do with me or the country.

Woody Harrelson does give an amazing performance. Ed Harris I found rather sheepish. I wonder if John McCain is really like that. I assume so. Julianne Moore seemed to have nailed Palin’s character. I was also surprised at how little McCain interacted with Palin. According to the movie it was minimal if at all. Not even talking to her when she started saying things and driving the campaign off the cliff.

I recommend checking this out. If you’re like me, you will appreciate a good movie, but I thought it left a horrible taste in my mouth… again watching politics at work.

PS: This is a rare political comment. I never fully understood the immediate embracing of Sarah Palin. I come from the Show-me state, so I take a wait and see attitude. I saw the sparkle, the pizzaz of her ‘acting’ which might attract some, but her ignorance was far more telling. So even today I don’t understand followers of Palin. As the movie states a couple of times, Palin is heartbeat away from being President. Really? That’s good? Yeaaaaa No

Unless you have  t i t s  I prefer you show-me nothing. Back on topic, Julianne was on The Daily Show a couple nights back hyping this up. I wasn't all that interested in seeing the movie, and since I don't have HOBO, it's still low on my radar. But I'm always down for anything Moore is in, so when this hits DVD I will check it out.

Unchained Reaction - Discovery (http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/unchained-reaction/)

From the Mythbuster guys...

I checked this out recently. Built along the same ways as Mythbusters is set up. executive produced and judged by Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman of MythBusters — is a new six-part series that pits two teams of varying backgrounds against each other to build an elaborate chain-reaction contraption. It starts off slow, but as ideas are revealed, I found this pretty entertaining. I'm a geek and engineer and this stuff is pretty fun to watch.

I'll try to remember it's on. My wife would hate this.  ;D

Dream Machines - SyFy

I forgot this was coming on. The trailer grabbed me right away with the awesome products the Parker Bros. dream up and build.

Last night was spec job from 50 cent. He wants a one of kind car.

Built on the exact same premise of American Chopper with the main focus of relationships between the brothers and the rest of the crew. After one hour, the car was only half done. I have to watch another hour to see the finished product.

It's a brand new company and they have a lot of growing pains unrelated to the actual job. I found that a bit tedious. Also, while the car design is cool, I'm more interested in some of the other unique ideas presented in the trailer.

Again, I'll try to remember this is on. Guess I might have to On-Demand it.

Here's my list. It sucks that I have to wait a week later to watch anything on FOX to appear on Hulu. But with NBC, it's always the next day. FOX sucks!! CBS is the best because they air everything online within half an hour after initial broadcast on TV.

Series to add later when I get confirmation of exact day they will air on are:

American Horror Story
The Walking Dead
The Apprentice
Cougar Town

Current shows that I'm watching that I didn't think I'd be watching, which is why they don't have their own threads are:

Brooklyn 99
About A Boy
Growing Up Fischer
The Mindy Project

Of the 4, I'm really surprised that not only do I like Brooklyn 99, but I liked the actors and the characters they play. It's actually quite good. Very funny. I know The Mindy Project is in it's second season, but I'm surprised that it has kept my attention this long.

I have no idea when Phineas and Ferb airs (and if the new episodes will ever find their way to Netflix), but dang are they pickin' up special events.  They already did a Star Wars episode, but we recently learned that Simon Pegg and Nick Frost will reprise their Shaun Of The Dead roles for an episode (seriously!) (http://screencrush.com/simon-pegg-nick-frost-shaun-of-the-dead-phineas-ferb-halloween/), and now they're going to do an episode parodying Lost... and it's going to be written by Damon Lindelof himself! (http://uproxx.com/tv/2014/08/damon-lindelof-wrote-a-lost-themed-episode-of-phineas-and-ferb-and-duh-it-promises-lots-of-mystery/)

I keep thinking of Modern Family as being the show that can get whoever it wants, but... come on!  Phineas and Ferb is the show that did a quick joke about Twilight and cast Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin as Edward and Bella... and Michael J Fox as the werewolf!

These are the for-sure shows I will be watching. Most are returning series. But there are a few new shows that I will be checking out. Hopefully they are good and have a nice run. I haven't factored in any mid-season replacements yet as I don't know what they are. But as of now, this is my schedule. I left off shows like Utopia, even though I intend to check that out as well. But it's not a priority for me.I may use the open slot on Saturday to catch up on lesser shows OnDemand to sample them as they are made available. Missing from the schedule are New Girl and The Mindy Project. Not sure why they are MIA. They may have been bumped to mid-season status.

Really?  Considering he was intended to be Gorgomon once upon a time, I'm amazed that he lasted this long.

Maybe they were feeling pressure after House Of Cards and Game Of Thrones to kill off an important character, in order to seem relevant.  Or maybe Sweets needed out of his contract (he does write movies, I believe).

He writes as well as fronting his own band. I wish he would have stayed a little bit longer. I just find it odd that his replacement on the show is basically a clone. He looks EXACTLY like Daly. Weird.

I watched the first episode of Mulany. Not good. Wasn't even close to being funny. It's dumb writing. The jokes are too on-the-nose with not payoff. Also, for a show that is being hyped up as a comedy, I find it ironic that they have to rely on a laugh track. I can't tell you how much I hate laugh tracks. They make me cringe whenever I hear one. I doubt I will return to this show any time in the future.

With nothing on OnDemand for my shows that I watch, I decided to give Black-ish a chance. I enjoyed the first episode enough that watching the 4 episodes they currently have uploaded won't be a problem. Always been a fan of Anthony Anderson and Laurence Fishburne. So, with Fishburne on Black-ish as a full time character, they pretty much give away who dies at the end of Hannibal which p*sses me off. It's another case of Spoilers biting me in the ass. Now, it's possible that he still lives and can do both shows at once. But I'm not holding my breath on that....Anyway, give Black-ish a shot, you may be pleasantly surprised you like it.

YOu know, I've been catching little pieces of Peter Pan Live and it seriously feels like watching an SNL skit but with no punchline... it's strange.  I also get this feeling that Christopher Walken could forget all his lines at any moment and just wander around and the show would be exactly the same.

I've been watching to short episodic series from NetFlix.

Darknet (6 ep.) @ 1/2 hour each.
I find them entertaining. With the feel of Tales From The Darkside, these are contemporary, more complicated and a longer payoff. Not the last second reveal. Very interwoven set of tales that while being told don't seem to have a connection, but as we get to the end, reveals peel open right and left. Each one is a surprise, meaning I didn't figure it out. I recommend it.

Black Mirror (6 ep) 37 minutes.
I've only watched one, but it packs a punch and anxious to watch the rest. The first episode is clearly pushing limits in content. The language is way over in R-rated territory, but I think very appropriate. This is some serious WTF sh*t and you either dive in or **** foot around. In fact the subject matter just may be a huge issue with many a folk. Black Mirror dives in. Contemporary setting with clear conflicts with technology. I highly recommend this one.

So I caught the first episode of "React To That," the TV-spinoff/adaptation of the Fine Bros' "React" videos from Youtube.  The show is cute... and certainly "Nickelodeon-ized" since it focuses on the kids and the videos are more G-rated and non-controversial, but honestly, I felt it feeling sort of clinical and workmanlike.  Maybe that's because they're still experimenting with the twenty minute format (the commercial breaks lasted for freaking EVER), but it felt like they could be more spontaneous on the web, which you're kind of hoping for.  Now that they have a show and a studio, they can get all the kids together and do stuff, but since they still shoot stuff apart, the can't come up with an idea on the spot.  There was a video they were watching about this amazing dancer, and they ALL said they wanted to be able to do it.  Well, if they were all in studio together, they could have put together a little dancing challenge right there and cut out the "spinning baseball" challenge from the third act).  Hopefully this is one of those kinks that will get smoothed out as the show progresses.

Another big problem for me was the show lacked a variety of guests: since it was Nick, it was just the kids, but online you can swap between the kids, adults, teens, whomever, and they can take as long as they like on a topic.  TV's a different animal.

it was an interesting little watch, and it kind of feels like old Nick, but I don't think I'll be catching up with episodes if they become available online.

I spent the past 3 days with Gracepoint. I watched the first 4 episodes as it aired on TV. But the week in between those episodes was making my interest wane and since this was already a limited 10 episode series, I knew that the first 9 episodes would be all about Red Herrings. After the fourth episode, I decided that I would stop watching the series until all the episodes had aired and then I would revisit it on Roku once all episodes were available. The series as a whole was good and I was never bored. It does play better binge watching, especially a series like this. With that said, the 'Killer' that the writers chose was somewhat disappointing. I was like, "Really, him?" I won't say who it was if you guys ever plan on watching this on a rainy day. With the series complete, it's no loss that this won't be coming back. At least I don't think it is.

I barely watch broadcast... in part because there's so much to watch, it's never on when *I* want it to be.  So if I have the TV on (which I do very often), my watching is deliberate.  Cause that's a huge mountain of stuff to climb, I don't have time for scrolling through hundreds of channels or going through menus or sitting through commercials or reruns... it's so inelegant.

I swung by my sister's house last night to feed and cuddle with Daisy and I was there for a while and sat in the quiet because I didn't want to turn the TV on, I'd been watching Mass Effect on Youtube before I left and I just wanted to watch more of that.  If I had an iPad, I could have continued watching.  if I had turned the TV on, I'd be scrolling for ten/fifteen minutes and then just settled for the least objectionable option.  That doesn't appeal to me.  I can't see how it appeals to anyone.  I preferred the silence.

There was a great article I read by the creator of "Fresh Off The Boat" about all the ways the show bastardized his book to make the show.  Can't remember where I read it since it so it's buried in reviews and sh*t, but he was pretty p*ssed off about how inaccurate and upbeat the thing turned out to be.

Now I hear that the show is most likely to get cancelled, which f*cking blows. It's hard to find shows that engage me like Affairs does and it's very disheartening to hear that I have to go back to below standard shows that are swallowed up by the masses and gems like this one are tossed aside.

Just checked out the first two episodes of The Last Man On Earth. Being bombarded with promos for this for the past couple of months all but assured me that I'd have to tune in once in spite of being very skeptical that they could even sustain the premise. The winking nod to Cast Away had to be done, even if it was a cheap and obvious joke to go to. It was the first and only thing I was thinking about when I saw the first promo. By the second episode we find out what the real premise of the show is. Would you procreate with the last woman on Earth if she turned out to be a nag of epic proportions? The show was okay for me. There is potential for the show. With nothing else on at this time I'm sure I will stick with it for the time being.

Well, a well-known and oftentimes derided television network, after years of being pounded by requests from fans, and seeing the success and popularity that the cast has achieved since the show went off the air, are bringing back, for a limited run, an influential and iconic piece of television.  A show that flew to great heights, but apparently, there's a little more left in the tank and will fly again.  Some tie has passed, the story's a bit different, and not everyone will return, but it's back.

That's right, you never thought it would happen, but the show is coming back (http://deadline.com/2015/03/coach-series-craig-t-nelson-star-nbc-1201399607/).

I was REALLY hoping someone was gonna get their hopes up and maybe think Firefly.  Or any other number of high-profile shows.  Coach seems out of left field.  Even Cheers would make more sense (come ON, let's get THOSE guys back, what are they doing that's more important?  Woody might be hard to get back, but everyone else?  Easy!)

Trolling definitely intended.  And failed.  Ah well.  Honestly can't think of anyone who's actually psyched about the show coming back.

Coach is on Netflix (hopefully that will include the new episodes) and the Florida stuff is weak but everything before that is pretty solid (highlights include the episode where he's locked out of his Aspen lodge naked in the middle of winter, where he goes to the fertility clinic, where he buys the house, the fight through the vents...

I don't know what they're going to do about the school, though, it was a fictional university when the show was on, but the name wound up being used when two real colleges merged.

And I remembered that Larry, Darryl and Darryl were in the last episode as well!  Now THOSE guys I hope we see again.

Well, I kinda knew you were hinting at Firefly, but I immediately dispelled it because it wasn't that long ago that Joss had said he was done with Firefly. No new TV episodes, no new movies, nothing. With that said, I'm still holding out for another movie in spite of the lackluster ticket sales for Serenity.

I watched the first episode of American Crime a week and a half ago and thought it was really good. But last night and all day today I binged watched episode 2-6 and I'm totally hooked. This is a great f*cking series. It very different and one that I wouldn't peg on a Network like ABC. It's more along the lines of something HBO or Showtime would do. Definitely check this out. Very heavy on race relations that follows 3 separate storylines, all deriving from one particular crime. We see what this one incident does and how much damage it does to everyone involved. It's like watching a disease moving through everyone and wrecking their lives in ways they never thought possible. Riveting and fascinating to watch.

I'm 3 weeks behind, but I just checked out American Odyssey. It seems that NBC isn't willing to give up yet on the Covert/Military/Espionage plot just yet. Within the last few months we have gotten both State of Affairs and Allegiance, both of which were cancelled. The former getting a full season and the later not even making it past the 5th episode before getting the hook (rumor has it that they will air the remaining episodes for Season 1 online, which I have yet to check out, but fully intend to). I'm taking a huge risk is sticking with American Odyssey given the recent track record, but I liked the Pilot enough to want to stick around in spite of knowing full well this won't last either. Hopefully the series catches on and can make a dent with the viewers.

It's more situational comedy here....or more to the point, humor that arises from uncomfortable and awkward moments. The show reminds me of Curb Your Enthusiasm, which I'm a huge fan of. Yeah, I will be sticking with The Comedians for sure.

Just checked out Atari: Game Over on Roku for free. It's a documentary tracking the rise and fall of Atari and of course what is considered by many to be the worst game ever created and the reason for Atari's downfall.....ET. Of course those that worked for Atari go to great lengths to say it's not the worst game. I wouldn't expect anything less from them. The big hook for the doc was the un-burial of ET The Game, which by now you have all heard to be true. As for ET being labeled Worst Game Ever, it may not be the sh*ttiest game ever made because there are plenty out there, but I can say this, it's the worst game I've ever owned and that's saying a lot because I had tons of games.

I just binged watched the remaining episodes (6-13) of Allegiance yesterday and today and I gotta say it was thrilling to watch it all play out. Never was I bored at all and couldn't wait to see what each episode gave me. Each episode got better and better. What as shame that NBC cancelled this. It was fun and exciting and intense. Too bad NBC didn't have the balls to give it a chance. Most people probably left the show after the 5th episode (which I did) and never knew that the Big Bad Villain would turn out to be the one and only Giancarlo Esposito who at times was channeling his inner 'Gus Fring'.  ;D Bonus points for getting Diane Farr in this as well. What really stings is that the final scene sets up what would have been the main story line for Season 2. Sigh. Another great series that will never be talked about........

I was checking the Roku Menu this morning looking for something I could watch over the weekend and came across Star Wars: Rebels. I've known about this series for about a year or so, but given it's connection with the Disney Channel, I figured this was going to be dumb downed to appeal to the kids that make up the demographic for TDC. I was wrong. The animation looks great for a TV series and the story itself is a pretty straight forward one. Sure, it's basically reusing the same template: Boy meets up with Jedi and will learn the ways of the force....

Impressed by the visuals as well as the sounds. It's all there including the music. Also, some of the jokes were really funny. Totally dug that they put in the Wilhelm Scream as well, which made me laugh. I'm definitely on board and will be watching the rest of the season.

I just caught the first two episodes of The Whispers and I liked it. Definitely on board for what I think is an 'Event Series'. I can't see how they sustain this beyond 10 episodes. I'm not sure how much Steven Spielberg is involved here, but the first two episodes dipped into the Close Encounters of the Third Kind, ET and Poltergeist sandbox. They were definitely homages and well-placed within the story context. When I saw the TV spots for this show the last month or so, I was under the impression it would be on the Supernatural level like The Sixth Sense. Now I'm seeing it more in the Sci-Fi genre. Who knows. It might be both.

Just gave the first episode of Dark Matter a spin. The setup of 7 strangers who awake on a Spaceship out in the middle of nowhere with no memory of who they are or how they got there was interesting. The reveal at the end was a good twist. I'm down to see where this goes.  I'm sure there will be people making Firefly connections based on the ship and a few of the characters.

Just watched the first 3 episodes of Killjoys. First episode was just okay for me. Second was a little bit better. Third showed potential of what the series could be. Still uncertain what the main arc of the show is though. Other than some mysterious guy that trained the chick to be an assassin at a young age, nothing much else was said or implied about this. Will stick with it for the time being.

I just watched the first two episodes of Dominion. It looks slick. Great production values and the story of a Guardian Angel protection the Human Race against fallen Angels is intriguing. But one problem I have after the first couple of episodes is who the Main Character is suppose to be. Is it Michael, the Angel or is is Alex, the Chosen One?

THIS convinced you to see The Strain?

Anyway... The Strain is very good. I can't believe I missed the premiere of the new season. If Charter doesn't put this On Demand, like they are NOT doing with The Last Ship.

Let's hope that changes

It doesn't have a sense of humor. This little piece is nothing like the show. I'm still scratching my head on it. I've seen diametrically opposite marketing before, but it's rare and not sure it worked (maybe American Horror Story did something... Chip? Do you recall?).

The Strain has an overall dark gloominess to it. Well produced, edited and acting.

Yea, Charter Communications is the provider. I am totally P*ssed about there business practices. I missed the Premiere for the last ship. I checked On Demand and the episode didn't show up until 7 days later. I watched it.

I missed the 3rd episode. Guess what happened. Charter removed all episodes. Even the one I watched. There were two (2 minute) promo spots left on. WTF.

And right now, no Strain episodes available. Goddamit.

I'm thinking it has to be agreements with the studio's on what becomes available for On-Demand. Some shows have it all. Others... nada.

I just caught the premiere of The Jim Gaffigan Show. It was good and it has potential for what it is: a family comedy. It's never going to be a must-watch series for me by a long shot, but I will tune in when it comes on most likely.

I just checked out the first episode of Why? With Hannibal Burress and it needs some serious work. Honestly, I don't think any amount of work is going to make this funny at all. He's great on Broad City, but as the host of his own 'Talk Show', he is not. I've already taken this off my Roku Watch-list.

I just checked out the first episode of Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll with Dennis Leary. He's already got one pretty sizable hit with Rescue Me, which I'm a big fan of. So, I was very curious to see what his new FX show would be like. The tone reminds me more of Californication with some hints of Rescue Me as far as humor goes. I'm definitely on board with this series. I just wish they would have given more thought to the title of the show. It's a mouthful with all those '&'s'.

I just knocked out the first 3 episodes / Season 1 of Playing House and I'm digging it. Some very funny moments. Great characters. Well-written. The reason why I decided to give this series a shot is because of Jessica St. Clair. I only knew her from Review (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/tv/review-(season-1-2014)/msg28167/#msg28167). Her role is very small in that series, but in Playing House she is carrying the show with Lennon Parham, both are extremely funny and play off each other very well. Lots of chemistry. Throw in Keegan-Michael Key and you have a sure-fire comedy hit.

Mr. Robinson

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqmi2jvnk3w

I like Craig Robinson, I just don't love everything he does {cough}Rapture-Palooza{cough}{cough}

I was really looking forward to Mr. Robinson's premiere last night. Thinking that Black-ish is my current favorite show, there might be some similarities?

The first 1/2 hour was stumbling to find it's footing. Sure, introduce all the characters and set the scene. Not so much. Let's try the 2nd 1/2 hour. More of the same. A little more solid, but ya know, I didn't laugh once. Peri Gilpin (Fraiser), an old love of mine, is a lead character, but dayum if she doesn't look unsure of herself. The gorgeous Meagan Good is Robinson's love interest and that character interaction might develop, but it was brief at best.

I'll give it another go, but my hopes are not too high.

I just saw the pilot to Sneaky Pete and dug it... hopefully it'll get picked up, it feels like a nice balance between episodic and prestige television.

I just got finished watching the premiere of Évocateur: The Morton Downey Jr. Story and it was much much better than I hoped it would be. This documentary of the Mouth tracks his meteoric rise and subsequent fall. I was a big fan of his when he exploded on the scene and would tune in to his show as much as possible. He really was an original at the time. Sure, there had been other talk show host that would be antagonistic to their guest. But Morton was different. He was Mach 5 with no let up in sight. As fast as he came onto the scene.....he was gone just as fast. But he left a huge legacy that other shows since then have mined and copied, but have never been able to duplicate. Great doc and definitely worth checking out. There is a ton of stuff that most people never knew about the man. Even I was surprised at the stuff I learned while watching this. They are replaying it right now on CNN if you're interested. 4 Stars out of 5.

The Carmichael Show

The Carmichael Show is NBC’s follow to the ill-fated Mr. Robinson. Like it’s predecessor, NBC is kicking out 2 episodes a week, I guess to ‘fit’ it in to a summer schedule. The Carmichael Show is different than the Mr. Robinson, but that does not make it better. It’s a little better than Mr. Robinson, but that is not saying much.

Carmichael felt like it was trying too hard and being preachy. There is a lot of similarities to the 70’s All In The Family. Except, times have changed and I don’t think audiences find that kind of humor appealing any more… or least in a sitcom. I really didn’t care to much for the characters. I love David Allen Greer and he always cracks me up. He did fine here and actually I think the show was material beneath is usual good stuff.

While the show gets into some edgy material with politics, religion, racisim and other meaty subjects, it’s just shotgun’d and hope something sticks. Unfortunately the comedy revolves around the subjects while trying to maintaining balance for the audiences

Not cancelled. NBC created 6 shows for each. I believe their original intention was to have Mr. Robinson and then The Carmichael show back to back for 6 weeks.

But instead, they showd Mr. Robinson for 3 weeks @ 2 (1/2 hour) episodes, then Carmichael.

It all sounds like a half hearted experiment.

I just don't think either one will get renewals.

For me, The Whispers turned out to be the sleeper hit. Whether or not that actually translated into decent ratings, I don't know. But as a viewer, it was a nice change from the norm of everything else on TV right now. The show isn't perfect, but it has provided enough intrigue to keep me coming back week after week. The twist at the end was also a good call from your typical alien "invasion", which was expected. I for one would like to see the show get picked up for another season.

I just finished watching the Season Finale of Dark Matter and it was a pretty good cliffhanger, one that had me guessing right to the very end. Overall I enjoyed the series. It's nowhere near Firefly mind you, but it does carve out it's own niche. The characters and the actors that portray them are all good. Glad to hear that it's coming back for a second season. As for Killjoys, it's a decent series and it did get better with time, but there were times where I was ready to throw in the towel because 2 of the 3 main characters I just couldn't connect with. Killjoys was also renewed for another season. I'll tune in.

American Experience: Walt Disney
(Parts 1 & 2)

I actually heard about this episode literally 5 hours before it aired on Monday, with Part 2 airing last night. I'm glad that I got a news feed about this PBS documentary on the man that I credit as the main reason why I got into art. He was the first celebrity I ever idolized back when I was 5 or 6 years old and watching the doc brought back a lot of memories. But this is a much deeper look into the mindset of Walt Disney.  It's not all fun and games. Far from it. It really shows the dark side and the obsession he manifested about any and everything he created. This two night even, clocking in at 4 hours is an absolute must-watch for anyone that is a fan of his brand or a fan of modern day geniuses that come along once in a lifetime. For me, 4 hours just seems way to short. I wanted more as this was fascinating viewing. I would say about 90% of what I saw in the doc was all new to me. There were lots of vintage images and archival footage to keep you engaged. Love the doc. You can check it out right now on Roku if you have the PBS Channel app which is free. It's under the American Experience channel within the PBS app itself. Now I'm gonna go dust off some of my Walt Disney books from my home library.....

I forgot to mention in the previous post about CSI. It was cancelled last season and rightly so. The show has been going downhill ever since William Peterson left back after Season 9. It went to Season 15 before the cancellation. The last episode of last season was lame. Great news is that CBS has decided to do a proper send off and bring back both Peterson and Marge Helgenberger. I always stuck around with the show in the off-chance that both would come back. Nice to see that they are. The two-hour movie is set to air on September 27.

I recently read "Limitless" is starting out of the gate mis-stepping. It seems to be positioning itself more of a 'Superhero' type show vs. the movies presentation. I hope it works out for you.

I'm kinda getting psyched for "Into The Badlands (http://www.amc.com/shows/into-the-badlands)". Since this is an AMC production, I'm expecting their stellar track record to continue. I could be wrong. This may be completely different than I anticipate.

Gotham Season 2 Episode 1

Decent episode that shoehorned more villians into the arc, but it came at the expence of The Penguin, who was by far the best thing last year. I hope this was just a small blip in the premiere and that he will be back with more screen time.

Minority Report Season 1 Episode 1

It was okay. It looks great for sure and they excelled there. But I'm not I like the idea of watching yet another procedural. Tack on the fact that MR is using the Sleepy Hollow template, another FOX show. It's kind of odd that they are going more for a comedic bent between the two leads. I will stick around for the time being.

Blindspot Season 1 Episode 1

Of the 3 shows I watched last night, this was by far the best of the bunch. There is a lot of potential here as they use Long Kiss Goodnight and the Bourne movies as their own templates. What I saw here in the pilot was very encouraging. Seems like this would be a great episode for The Blacklist to do a crossover with.

Scream Queens Season 1 Episode 1 & 2

This one clearly takes a big page from Scream and a handful of other Horror movies. But it's also pulling from a couple that you wouldn't expect. It's a cross between Mean Girls and.......Naked Gun. Kinda. It doesn't go way overboard like that, but SQ is clearly designed as a comedy. Think along the lines of Scary Movie. This is where I'm having issues with SQ. I'm not sure exactly why they keep shifting the tones between Mean Girls and NG. It's kind of an odd way to do a horror show for me. I really wasn't feeling the 2 hour premiere. I may be still dealing with the lackluster performance of Scream the TV Series and it may be tainting SQ for me. I'll stick around for a couple more episodes and see if I warm up to what they are doing with the Genre.

The Player (Season 1 Episode 1)

The Pilot of The Player turned out to be quite fun. When the TV Spots said this was going to be action packed, it was exactly that. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the episode. The premise of people betting on the outcome of Good Vs Bad isn't new, but the way it's put together makes it look fresh. You definitely have to check your brain at the door because it does require a big leap of faith in the premise to work. It was fun and I thought Wesley Snipe as the "FBI Lawyer" was hilarious. I'm definitely on board for the series.

Limitless Season 1 Episode 1

I just got finished watching Limitless and it was a great opener to the series. The main reason why I wanted to check this one out was because Jennifer Carpenter is in it. I've been a fan of hers going back to Dexter so I was curious to see her playing another FBI agent. But what about the show itself? You really do need to suspend your disbelief for this show to work. How else are you going to get on board with the idea that a pill can basically turn people into that of a Superhero. All the stuff I got to see him do during the Pilot was fun and I want to see more. I'm on board for this for sure. I also like that they have built into the opener a mythology relating to the mysterious inventor of the pill. Cool cameo by Bradley Cooper.

The Muppets. Season 1 Episode 1

Liked it. A lot. This isn't the same Muppets of my youth. Wasn't expecting them to use adult humor at all, but it's definitely the right way to go because I don't think a 'Saturday Morning' version of the show would work in this day and age. I'm definitely on board for this for the rest of the season.

Grandfathered Season 1 Episode 1

I had no desire to ever watch this, but given the fact that there was absolutely nothing else on.....why not. Looks like we got a sleeper hit on our hands. It was a fun half hour and much better than I thought it would be. I like the cast of characters. The Bob Saget cameo was a nice touch. I expect to see more in the future. John Stamos could have not one, but two hit series on at the same time. The other of course being Full House 2.0 or whatever it's called.

The Grinder Season 1 Episode 1

Even though I had intentions of checking this out, my enthusiasm was low. It's on FOX and I kinda got the feeling this was going to be a placeholder show for something else. This quite possibly will be my favorite comedy of the season. Loved it! It was damn funny. Rob Lowe has another series on his hands that can go the distance. I hope people give this a chance. Definitely worth checking out. Great to see Fred Savage back on TV again. Based on tonight's episode, I can see each episode ending in grand fashion in the same way you get in Big Screen Movies that take place in the courtroom. I'm down for that.

O.J. Speaks: The Hidden Tapes

As with everyone else on the planet, I too was riveted by the 'Trial of the Century' and was immensely sickened by the verdict that the jurors awared O.J. back in the day. It was so obvious he was guilty. I lost a lot of faith in our court system that day when a celebrity could literally buy his way out of prison with his money and his fame. I also lost any desire to invest my time in court proceedings and him ever again. Even though I knew and heard about the Civil Case the Goldman Family brought against him, I just didn't want to hear any more. I had moved on. So, watching O.J. Speaks: The Hidden Tapes, it was new for me in a way because I was finally getting to hear the mountain of evidence that tripped him up on the stand in great detail masterfully executed by Goldman's Attorney. A&E did a phenomenal job with this documentary. This is powerful TV watching and I recommend this if you like courtroom proceedings.

Moonbeam City

I finally got around to checking out the first episode and it was better than I thought it would be. It's basically a cross between Miami Vice and Archer. It's nowhere near the level of Archer mind you, which is the gold standard, but it does tap into the same adult humor and has a lot of potential. A lot of dick and fart jokes. The animation is very 80's retro and I like it. I may stick around and check out upcoming episodes.

I'm surprised how psyched I am for this considering how little of the show I've ever watched, but the internet is abuzz, ABUZZ I say!, with news that Netflix is renewing Gilmore Girls (http://deadline.com/2015/10/gilmore-girls-followup-netflix-lauren-graham-alexis-bledel-1201588084/).  It's going to be a series of four 90-minute movies, sort of like Sherlock (a format that I'm would love to see become more common).

My mind is blown to realize that Alexis Bledel will be the same age that Lauren Graham was when the pilot came out.  Geez louise!

Well, the whole season of "The Man In The High Castle" comes out Nov 20 (so soon and yet so far), but they put up the second episode for a special preview weekend, and you bet your butt I made sure to check it out.

The premise, since it's been a while since the pilot came out, is that it's 20 years after the Nazis won World War II and the US is divided between Japanese and Nazi forces.

My big fear was that  the big scale from the pilot would be pared down and the whole show would take place in the Neutral Zone... thankfully, I was wrong.  While TNZ is one of the major settings, we still get A and B plots in New York and San Francisco.  And I know I'm supposed to be siding with Julia more than anyone else, but Rufus Sewell was my fave part in this ep, even if he was a villain in the last one.  I get the sense that the show is gonna make the audience root for the Nazi, cause this is totally the kind of show that would try that (it does help that we started the ep with him and his family, showed the human side to him and kept him from doing anything particularly evil this time around).

They say that the second episode of a series is as important as the first, because it proves whether or not the show has legs.  I think this show has legs.  I have an idea of where the characters are going (though I expect that they're going to subvert my expectations as the show continues).

One thing I'm still really hoping is that old man Hitler shows up before the season runs out, considering how important he is to the premise and the fact that his death would sincerely screw up everyone's lives, they GOTTA show him.  And not just from behind or in silhouette, either.  What would be really boss is if they got Bruno Ganz, the guy who played Hitler in Downfall (the clip of which is the basis of every "Hitler complains" video) to reprise the part.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 1 Episode 1

I've been hearing a lot of great things about the show and decided to give it a shot and yes, the reviews do it justice for the most part. It's not without its faults, but I found the Pilot episode to be really good based strictly on the story. I like the setup, although the idea of being "stuck" with a girl off her meds and is literally stalking an Ex to the point of moving from NY to Cali may rub people the wrong way. It's not just the Ex that is crazy, but her co-worker is just as crazy if not more. So now we are dealing with two crazies. It may wear thin or it may offer up plenty of comedy. We shall see.

My biggest gripe about what the series is most likely going to be from here on out is breaking into song at random moments. I just don't want to watch another Glee because the singing ends up dominating the narrative to the point where I just don't want to watch anymore. What I would like to see, if they have to have songs, have no more than 1 or 2 per episode and don't have them longer than 30 seconds or so. The plot and the narrative in the Pilot was strong enough to not really need excessive singing. We get 3 songs here and I thought that was too much. Glee average 5-6 per episode. So, already this series is better for not having as many. I will say that the songs are original in that it's more or less illuminating her crazy thoughts. No cover songs like Glee. Thank God. I'll stick around for the time being and see what the next few episodes have to offer. With that said, this series does feel more like something that belongs on MTV and not one on The CW.

Seeing the singing in the trailer/marketing was an instant turn-off for me. I didn't even give this another thought.

Wicked City Season 1 Episode 1

I watched the Pilot last night in spite of hearing awful things the past couple of weeks from industry insiders. Their negative reviews actually made me want to see this more than anything else. Having just watched it, I see why they are negative toward this Serial Killer series. Yes, it's saturated with cliche after cliche. There's nothing original and it's kind of hard to actually be original in this genre, save for Dexter. The other thing that came to mind was how this got onto ABC of all places. I look at ABC as being more family friendly than most other networks. So, I was kind of shocked to see so many scenes involving stimulated blow jobs as well as an implied Necrophilia between the main characters with her laying perfectly still, not moving, not breathing, etc... It was creepy to see on a Prime Time Network for sure. On HBO or FX, I wouldn't have blinked. Women for sure are not going to be watching this series at all. So, not sure what the mindset is of ABC other than wanting to be "edgy". With that said, I still enjoyed the episode just for the music alone if not the story and characters. I love that ABC broke the bank in getting classic songs from the 80's from Billy Idol, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett and more. I liked that the first scene starts off on the Sunset Strip with Ratt headlining the show and then showing Stephen Percy as the doorman at the Whiskey as his 'younger self' is on stage rocking out with Ratt. I'll stick around to see where they take this series for the next couple of episodes. Besides, I want to see how much money ABC will spend on hit songs from the 80s for each episode.

Into The Badlands (AMC)
Childhood's End (SyFy)
The Expanse (SyFy)

Those should be good.  I think both Man In The High Castle and AKA Jessica Jones both start on Nov 20th... and since I'm doing Zero Draft 30 (the screenwriting version of Nanowrimo), I'd better front-loud my schedule so I have some free time.

Saw a couple of Amazon's pilots.  Here's what I thought:

Highston was fun, a Wilfred-esuqe comedy about a young man (who's got a real John Carol Lynch thing going on, not that its a bad thing at all) who has imaignary friends who help him through life.  Those friends?  Celebrities.  Represented in the pilot by Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers and Shaq from, well, basketball.  The character actors that show up are great too, Chris Parnell, Mary Lynn Raskjub (sp), Kurt Fuller...

Patriot is a sort of dark comedy about a spy who's trying to go undercover at a plant... it took a LONG time to get started, at least that's how it felt to me.  But when it got going, it was interesting.  It's sort of like the Coen Bros' "Burn After Reading."  I might watch it if it gets picked up.

Good Girls Revolt-- there have been so many period shows that have tried to follow up on Mad Men, but now we finally have one that doesn't feel derivative.  It probably helps that it's based on a true story, the rise of female reporters at Newsweek (Nora Ephron is a character in the first episode, which deals with the Hell's Angel murder at the Rolling Stones concert, the Gimme Shelter incident).  It's an awesome show, and even pulls off a minor miracle: Jim Belushi is GOOD in it!

And to undo all that feminism is Shane Black's insane western Edge.  Dudes.  Insane sh1t going on, it's a hard-edged quest for vengeance with geysers of blood, cutting off fingers, nudity from both genders, and just pure evil characters left and right.  It kidn of reminds me of video games in a way, particularly things like Grand Theft Auto and, obviously, Red Dead Redemption, which is certainly interesting.  The one issue I had is that all women seem to be ho okers or sex objects, even Yvonne Strahovski, who is an undercover inspector, disguises herself as a ho oker even though she ALSO disguises herself as a blacksmith across the street.  Having said that, I'm pretty certain this show will get picked up.

Why 'Wicked City' became fall TV's first canceled show (http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/showtracker/la-et-st-wicked-city-fall-tv-first-canceled-show-20151117-story.html)

Very surprised to hear that Wicked City has been cancelled in spite of it having major issues story wise. I figured that it would still run it's full 10 episode run or least 6 episodes before the Suits would pull the plug.

I checked out the first two episodes of The Last Kingdom. The first episode showed a lot of promises, but the second episode was just okay. Even with the noticeable dip, it's way better than The Bastard Executioner. Will stick with it for the time being.

Just finished watching the "Season Finale" of Into The Badlands. Huh? 6 episodes is all we get? Who does AMC think they are? The UK? Weak. Anyway, with all the promo ads running during The Walking Dead, of course I wanted to see this. Sadly, the series never lived up to the hype it generated. It's not bad, but it's not great either. Very underwhelming for me to say the least and the Finale was lame and un-fulfilling. Not sure if I'd come back to this if there is another option elsewhere at the same time.

Boy, I'm surprised that "Edge" didn't do well enough to warrant a full season order, that pilot was like an insane western film. I can see budget being a concern, but that can't be it.  It was the lowest rated pilot in the Amazon bunch (I liked it), but everything else got renewed, which had been something I was wondering about: if they had the money to greenlight all the shows they put to pilot.  Looks like they can.

Just checked out Shades of Blue, which I wasn't really expecting or even wanting to as I'm kind of tired of the Cop genre at the moment. Well, this one is a bit different as it's about Jennifer Lopez's character becoming an FBI informant to work on taking down her own crew of dirty cops, headed by Ray Liotta. Bonus is that Drea de Matteo is also in this, although her part in the Pilot was incredibly small. Solid opening to the series. I'm on board.

I just checked out the Special Preview of Colony. It was....meh. I went into this with high expectations given that Josh Holloway and Carlton Cuse were reuniting. Can they capture lightning in a bottle again? That remains to be seen and based on the Pilot, they have a steep hill to climb. I think keeping everything secret from the viewer the entire episode is the wrong approach. Sure, we got to see a bunch of Military figures enforcing martial law, we saw a bunch of drones here and there and of course we saw the Wall. But beyond that, nothing much really happened here. I found myself bored through most of the episode. I'm willing to give the series a chance given how Cuse writes, but as I said, I think keeping us in the dark isn't the way to go.

The Trailer does look good and that's why I went into the Pilot all hyped up. As I said, the Pilot is kind of blah. Don't let this one episode discourage you. I know the payoff will come soon, just don't go into this one expecting much because it's gonna be a letdown for you no doubt.

Saw an ad to watch to watch the first 3 episodes on demand. Never heard of it. Checked it out and it's rather fun and funny. Some great goofy characters.

Simply it's all weird activity with sales and customers in a Wal-Mart like store. Don't know how long it can maintain quality funny, but it's a nice little diversion through winter.

I watched the Pilot last night and fell asleep half way through. It has some interest, but I was really tired.

BUT.... reading this is not encouraging to me.

Quote
Mashable caught up with Colony's creators to discus the new series.

Where did the idea for the series come from?
Cuse: We were talking about alien invasion shows, and then we were saying that what is really interesting is not the invasion itself, but the consequences of the invasion. We were sort of equally fascinated with World War II, and thinking about Paris under Nazi occupation. You had this beautiful city with these incredible cultural landmarks, people in nice clothes, sitting in nice cafes, drinking espressos while Nazis troopers are going by in the streets. The incongruity of those two worlds colliding seemed really interesting to us. We thought how could we do this in a modern context?

How did you settle on the idea of Los Angeles as a setting?
Cuse: We wanted to make sure to not tread into territory that had not been done by other shows. We thought it would be more interesting to put that in a place like Los Angeles, which is beautiful, with sunshine and palm trees. We didn’t want anything in our world to be black and white. We didn’t want it to be clear that there was just horrible misery as a result of this occupation.

Yeah, the city really is its own vibrant character in the pilot. How did you guys accomplish that?

Condal: The city is very interesting geographically for something like this. If you set an occupation in New York City, it’s a gridded city. There is not a ton of topography. [But] Los Angles is so large and sprawling. It has populated areas, unpopulated areas, industrialized areas, suburban areas. It was really interesting to us, creatively.

There's a lot of mystery in the pilot as well. Can we expect that for the rest of the first season?

Condal: As the story advances, you are going to learn all sorts of things about the world — but there will always be new questions and deeper questions and deeper understanding out in front of you, as well as the characters in the show. FUUUUUUUUUCK

The experience [of the] characters in the show is analogous to what the audience experiences, because no one really knows what is going on. But [that] is not the focus of the show. The focus of the show is the family, the characters at the center, and then the greater conflict of the occupation — its collaborators, those who choose to resist and those who get stuck in the middle.

Carlton, because both you and Josh Holloway are involved in Colony, it's drawn a lot of comparisons to Lost. How is it different from that show?
Cuse: I think its very different than Lost. Damon [Lindelof] and I used to think about Lost being a big adventure show with science fiction overlay. This is really a family drama, an espionage thriller with [a] dot of science fiction. So just out of the box, Josh is playing in a significantly different story. At the core of this drama is a family story. it’s about Will and Katie Bowman and their three kids — how they're trying to survive in a world that’s been upended by this occupation. It’s very much its own animal.

In what ways is it similar?
Cuse: Like in Lost, the audience didn't know much more than what the characters knew, and the same is true here. We are exploring this world through the eyes of our characters, who they themselves are in a strange and mysterious set of circumstances
UGH

Condal: There is a similar DNA in both of us as storytellers that attracts us to these kind of stories. These are the things that charge us up creatively. I think Colony will end up being a much different experience, but the comparisons to will be inevitable. And we welcome them. It was one of the greatest shows of all time.

Like I said, I'll give them a chance. But if the rest of the season is anything like the Pilot as far as maintaining the "mystery", I doubt there will be an audience for this.

Kind of surprised it has taken this long to even tell this story in the way its being presented. I like the pace they are going with this. This series was sort of in the back of my mind recently, I'm wrapping up Mad Men (only four more episodes to go!) and remembered Christina Hendricks was going to be in a show but couldn't remember what (it was this one, she was going to be in the Carla Gugino role), and I also remembered that Keisha Castle-Hughes had a show coming out but couldn't think of what it was.  What timing that this trailer would come out the next day.

And dang if it doesn't look cinematic as h3ll, too.  Probably due to the giant venue, but this is a show that looks like a movie.  Good on them for that, they're really selling the scale of these places, the lifestyle, making it feel visceral rather than like just behind the scenes footage.

I just watched the first episode of The Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth and it was a good alternative to what we have all seen on a daily basis. What the public sees is what appears on TV, day in and day out. What this series does is go behind the scenes as the candidates travel from town to town selling people on their ideas and whatnot. It's fascinating to see that the first episode picks up one month before Iowa and with that already in he rear-view mirror, you can't help but watch this with a different shade to it, knowing the outcome. The first episode dealt mainly with Cruz and Sanders and a little bit of Trump. I'm really curious to see what the rest of the series will bring forth, especially the revelation of Cruz stealing votes from Carson with his dirty tricks and if they actually go there, how will it harm the film makers in getting access to him from here on out.

Big Hero 6 is the movie I wanted Astro Boy to be.  And I still like Astro Boy.

A series?  H3ll yes.  My only question is format: BH6, and San Fransokyo in particular, is insanely detailed, I don't think you can render that on a weekly basis, or however they plan to do this series (I can see them pulling a "Star Trek" where they just pre-render stock shots to be used throughout the season).  But I can see a CGI series feeling a bit lacking compared to the movie.

The other way to go about it is cel animation, which still thrives on TV.  And given BH6's anime-inspired roots, I can imagine a show that looks more anime-like.

I wonder how much of the cast they could get back.  I can't imagine anyone else but Scott Adsit playing Beymax.

FX Renews Zach Galifianakis Comedy ‘Baskets’ for Season 2 (http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/baskets-renewed-season-2-fx-zach-galifianakis-1201712324/)

The first couple of episodes took getting 'used to' because of the odd, quirky nature of the character and the series. But everything from episode 3 to the end of episode 10 provided some truly, genuine laugh out loud moments. Gut-busting laughs for me, which was a surprise. But the biggest surprise for me was/is Louie Anderson, who is fantastic as the Zach Galifianakis' mother in the series. Yes, you read that right. He is great. Don't be shocked when he gets an Emmy nom. Really glad this was renewed. I was kind of worried it wouldn't get picked up because The Comedians got the boot after just one season.

Shades of Blue: Renewed or Cancelled? (http://www.inquisitr.com/2950894/shades-of-blue-was-this-show-canceled-or-renewed/)

In Season 1, episodes 1-12 were great. Damn entertaining and it kept me glued the entire time. Episode 13 however was extremely rushed. It was so condensed that it literally felt like I had missed 3 or 4 episodes because the actions of most of the characters were totally out of place. My guess is that the series was kept on the bubble till the end with no idea if they were coming back for another season or not. Well, I'm glad to report that it is in fact coming back. Had it not, I would be incredibly p*ssed off right now because they left 2 major cliffhangers and to not get a resolution would have really harmed not just this season, but NBC as well. So, props to them for doing the right thing. I don't know what the ratings average was for the entire season, but I do know that it has been a minor hit for them. Now bring on Season 2!!

The Detour TBS

Edited: I don't know what channel we were watching, but ran across The Detour last night. It's not the premiere until a week or so, but last night was kind of an introduction. My wife and I really enjoyed what we saw.

It a comedy of sorts and it appears to be a contemporary take on National Lampoons Vacation. Despite two young kids, this is adult themed and damn near R-rated. You guys might want to check it out.

Ay up you mank gits, dem Hollywood types is makin' a Fargo-style telly series on Snatch, roit? (http://uproxx.com/tv/snatch-reboot-crackle-fargo/).  All I can say is "we'is iddered an weeree doe keer abba eht."

Seriously, the idea of a Fargo style series about Snatch is interesting, then I saw who's making it: Crackle..  Who are literally the worst streaming company out there.  Their interface is terrible, their selection is lousy, and they've yet to make an original worth mentioning, let alone worth seeking out.  Could this be the turning point?  Colour me doubtful.

Dana Carvey was on this morning promoting a new comedy about impressions. I believe called First
Impressions.

Just the few minutes was hilarious. It appears it might be stand up or Whose Line type of show. Could be fun.

Cancellation Watch 2016: What's Been Axed So Far
 (https://www.yahoo.com/tv/tv-canceled-shows-2016-204640336.html)

I'm very p*ssed that FOX cancelled The Grinder. This was the best and funniest new show for 2016. FOX, you f*cking SUCK! I f*cking HATE YOU!!!! F*CK!!!!!!! I also hate that Grandfathered, Agent Carter and Nashville also got the ax, although with those shows, I was expecting it. But Grinder? F*ck no!!! I don't consider Person of Interest as being cancelled because they were given a heads up to wrap up all the loose ends well in advance and besides, I didn't expect the series to go beyond 5 Seasons anyway.

There's talk of Nashville trying to find a new home (i keep thinking "Vancouver," but they mean new channel), but I would like The Grinder to find a new place that can appreciate good comedy that needs time to build.  In the age of streaming and Netflix and binge-watching, cancelling a show after one season really doesn't make much sense.

Uhhh...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXZdEmvcFdU

I dunno.  I just don't know.  I mean, after "About A Boy," I try to give these adaptations a little leeway to let them be their own thing, but at the same time, being a remake just naturally invites comparison.  Especially when the original is so well done and well known.  And R-Rated, not network television friendly.

And where's Leo?

F*CK YOU CBS!

Limitless was one of my favorite new shows this past season. It was original and more importantly, it was a damn fun show to watch, someting you don't normally associate with a procedural show. So, I say again......

F*CK YOU CBS!

Watched a marathon of The Detour and it's by far the funniest and most shocking comedy I've seen all year. I was shocked at how far they were able to push the envelope on TNT with regards to adult content.

Currently watching Feed The Beast. It has potential. I'm on board for the time being.

Checked out Queen of the South last night. Another series that has potential. But there were parts in the Pilot that I found to be very sloppy editing-wise. I'll stick with it for the time being as well.

I just watched the first two episodes of The American West and I like it a lot. The remaining 6 episodes have yet to air, but I'm definitely going to see it through to the end. TAW is kinda like those reenactments shows you see on The Discovery Channel. But this one is a little bit different. We all know the likes of Jesse James, Billy The Kid, General Custer, Wyatt Earp, Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse and other historical characters that make up America during this time. But I've never seen their stories told like this before. I'm sure when you were growing up, you heard about Jesse and only Jesse in his story, same goes for the other characters too. In TAW, all the characters are dumped into the same fishbowl and each story that is being told has a ripple of effect. What Jesse does here, Ulysses S. Grant is doing this, and what he is doing informs what Custer is doing over there. It's kind neat to see how everyone is tied to the other in some way or another. It makes this all seem like the ultimate TV series drama of sorts. Can't wait for episode 3.

Red Dwarf XI

I've been waiting forever for this.  They shot series XI and XII back to back last year, and the first episode airs near the end of next month in the UK.  Now, last time around I saw the episodes on Youtube, but I don't know if I'll be able to do that this time (that was four years ago!)... and I have no idea when the Blu-Ray of it comes out.  Hopefully soon.  As much as I liked seeing the eps as soon as possible, RD was always binge-watching for me, from way back in the VHS days (the only way to watch British programmes).

Anyway, pics!

Look at that freakin' cockpit!  i think it's meant to be Starbug's pilot house, but it's never looked that detailed or space-y before.  So many of these stills look cinematic and dramatic, while series X was a bit more flat and sitcom-y (due to production issues).  It'll be interesting to see how it all comes together.

I just finished Season 1 of Queen of the South and I'm finished with it permanently. This show is awful. The only reason I stayed with it is I had already invested time into the series and wanted to see how it was going to end in spite of it sucking. What a f*cking joke this show is. The story is good if you like the rags-to-riches arc that is best exemplified by Scarface. So, you would think they would have smooth sailing. Nope. Sh*tty writing, sh*tty editing and even sh*ttier acting by all involve. I'm talking about Jr. High School level acting. Their performances are are so forced and wooden that they make Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen performances look as smooth as butter by comparison. Even with the major plot point that occurs in the final scene of Season 1 and it's a big WTF moment, it's still not enough to make me return to this turd.

I just watched the series premiere of Pitch, which follows the first female to ever pitch in the Majors, and the team she does it with is none other than the San Diego Padres. I actually thought this was a pretty decent opening. Really wasn't sure how it was going to play, but they did a solid job. Not sure if this will last though. I think right now, the only market that will tune in is anyone from SD. Beyond that, I see a lot of snobby MLB fans mocking the show because it's the Padres and will refuse to watch it on that alone. As for the episode itself, it reminded me a lot of For Love of the Game, the third and final baseball movie from Kevin Costner. Both use a lot of Flashbacks to highlight where the player came from and how they ended up where they are. Two things I really dug about Pitch is that A), they didn't make the girl a phenom that could strike out ever hitter she faced. This is grounded in as much reality as possible. She has flaws....just like any other player, B) I like that there is a MAJOR twist that is revealed at the end of the episode that really turns everything upside down. 4 Stars out of 5.

I just watched the first 3 episodes of Lethal Weapon (TV Series) and to my shock....it's actually pretty good for what they have served up thus far. I actually kept skipping over checking this out for 5 weeks because there is just too much baggage, moving from one of my all-time favorite film series to the small screen. It's a pretty tall order to replace Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, no matter who they got. The first order of business was getting two lead actors that actually have chemistry together. That's the biggest hurdle and I think they nailed it with Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford. What I really like is that they have given the Trish character as played by Keesha Sharp and much bigger role here where in the film she's not a vital part of what is happening. Bonus points for getting Jordana Brewster in this. I had no idea she was signed up for LW. Nice.

I also checked out the first episode of Speechless. I already like it and will definitely be sticking around for this. I just hope this doesn't go down the tank like Minnie Driver's last series did (About A Boy).

So far, I've tried American Horror Story, Timeless , The Exorcist and Channel Zero. None of have really grabbed me for must see TV.

Yet, I think I'm discovering something about my viewing habits. If it's a weekly series, I'm going to have difficulty making time. I've really only been fairly loyal to Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead.
I like movies. Bigger chunks of entertainment. Start the story... play it out... finish. And I'd rather not do that over a weeks and months. Binge watching is so more enjoyable for series type entertainment. If I had my druthers, I'd like that too for those shows I mentioned. Comedies for the most part not serial and you can pick up on any one show and be entertained. So I don't 'worry' about catching Big Bang or Mike & Molly.

So, for the 4 shows I started with, I think I'm not going to make attempts to schedule time to watch them. I'll hold out hope and see if Charter will keep them available for On Demand, so I can watch a bunch of them this winter. Catch up in a couple of nights.

I absolutely love Better Things. Just finished the season and it was great. I'm a fan of Pamela Adlon in most everything that I've seen her in, most notably Californication. It's nice to see her breaking out and getting to headline her own series now. It's perfectly cast and strikes the perfect tone of a single mother raising 3 very different daughters. The story lines are very engaging. She has a certain sense of humor that always comes across loud and clear. You can also see the fingerprints of Louis C.K. as well, who co-created the series with Adlon. Definitely check it out.   4 1/2 Stars out of 5.

Best news of the day was finding out that the series has been renewed for Season 2. F*ck yeah! As if there was ever any doubt it wouldn't be.

I just checked out the first episode of Shooter with Ryan Phillippe. It's a pretty good opening to the series. It's not a Spoiler to mention it here because the TV Spots used it to lure you in. A decorated Sharp Shooter is set up as the killer of POTUS, which comes at the end. Everything before that is basically about setting up his skill set to make us believe he can get out of this. It kind of reminds me of 24, which is a good thing. I'm on board for sure.

I just watched the first two episodes of Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath and it was f*cking riveting each episode. By the end of Episode 1, it will have you in tears. So heartbreaking to see families being torn apart just because of their blind devotion to what amounts to nothing more than a Ponzi scheme. You guys know that this thing that they call a "religion" fascinates me because of how easily people are manipulated and I'm just curious to find out more about their mindset and why they chose to got down this path when the evidence was clearly staring them in the face that it's a cult.  Her tell-all book (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/books/troublemaker-surviving-hollywood-and-scientology-by-leah-remini-(2015)/msg36419/#msg36419) was just the start. Now her new series taps into former high-ranking members that tell their own personal stories. I'm definitely on board for what Season 1 will serve up. I highly recommend checking this out. The two episodes that have aired are put together extremely well.

Binged-watched the first 4 episodes of Incorporated and I'm digging it so far. It's a cross between Minority Report in the Green Zone with his uses of the Tech that dominates that movie as well as Blade Runner in the Red Zone of town at night. During the day it reminds me of District 9 when time is spent in the shanty town. I learned of this shows existence when I heard that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were the producers of the series. I have 2 more episodes to watch and then I'm all caught up with the airing schedule.

Just finished watching the remaining episodes for Good Behavior and this is without a doubt the best new show for 2016. This show is insanely good and insanely addicting. There are so many moving parts happening at once and yet it all feels incredibly organic in how everything meshes up. So many great characters. Even the lesser (smaller roles) turned out to be bonuses for me. Love love love the series. Can't wait for Season 2. Also, please please please release the soundtrack for Season 1. So many amazing songs that I've never heard of before until now. I say about 95% of it was all new and one amazing cover version of Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way". I want this on CD and / or Vinyl right f*cking now.

So, I just watched the premiere for Season 2 for Colony and THIS is the episode they should have started with last season. THIS is how you engage and get viewers into your series. It's such a shame that the show runner chose to run with what we got last season. My biggest gripe for Season 1 was that the entire season was wrapped and kept in a mystery. We are so behind the 8 Ball that I was constantly fighting to find something to hold on to. Now fast forward to tonight, we have an episode still in the dark, but we are seeing everything unfold on Day 1. We are right along for the ride with the characters because they are in the dark as well. Even footing. I wasn't looking forward to giving the series another chance, but with this episode, I'm back on board for the time being.

I checked out APB. It was alright. Nothing memorable about it. They clearly are following the blueprint of RoboCop, minus RoboCop. Although the lead female actress is named Murphy and that had to be intentional. Not sure if I will stick around for the series though. It doesn't scream "must-see-TV" for me. I may just let it build up a backlog of episodes and come back to it later if nothing else is on.

So, I just watched the Pilot for Training Day and my concerns were verified. I just couldn't see how this would work as a series and still be connected to the film of the same name. Bill Paxton is stepping into the role that Denzel Washington owned and therein lies the problem with the series. Sure, it's just one episode, but Paxton is a likable guy and the way he is written in the series just further complicates the character. He never comes off threatening like in the movie with some serious f*cked up sh*t. In the Pilot, he just comes across as more mild-mannered, but willing to do what needs to get the job done. But at no time does he feel like he is plotting something sinister or that he would set up his new partner. The twist at the end is that his partner will be "training" Paxton. So, it just feels very confusing at the moment. Since I'm a huge fan of Paxton, I will stick around for the time being and see how things shake out. But honestly, I don't see this surviving based just on the first episode.

I just checked out the first episode of Powerless. I knew that this was a Superhero series, but I had no idea that it was a DC Comics property or that it was set in the world of the biggest names in Comics. The show is anchored in the city adjacent to Gotham City with Van Wayne running Wayne Security. A lot of references to Batman, Joker, Superman, etc....So, they aren't shy about going there. I doubt we will ever see the AAA Characters on the show any time soon,,,,,if ever. The show isn't perfect. It's not a dark and brooding series either. It's a straight up comedy. In spite of some flaws, the fact that they have Alan Tudyk playing Van will keep me around for the foreseeable future.

I watched the first 3 episodes of The Son and I like it so far. It's not pefect by any stretch...but there is enough there to make me want to see this through to the end of it's 10 Episode run. It's great to see Pierce Brosnan back on TV.

I also checked out the first episode of Trial & Error and I thought it was hilarious. Right off the top, it seems like they took the best guest star off of Dexter and decided to give it a spin of sorts. Instead of playing a serial killer, he's just accused of being one....with a comedic bent to it. Is it me...but is John Lithgow's character name Larry Henderson suppose to be a winking nod to Harry and the Hendersons? Larry/Harry Henderson.

So apparently there's a reboot of The Gong Show in the works, produced by Will Arnett, and they announced tthat UK stand-up legend Tommy Maitland (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/abcs-gong-show-reboot-taps-one-very-interesting-host-998339?utm_source=twitter&utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral) will be the host.

Look at that picture closely.

It's Mike Myers.

Yeah, I can see it now. But I NEVER would have guessed it was him.

First preview for Orville:

Gotta tell you, this is eerily close to an idea I was toying with when I was in college... and that, frankly, a LOT of Trekkie fans have played with.  There have been fan films like this, but because it's Seth McFarlane, it got made.  No idea if this is going to be good or not, or if it'll be more than what I expect... but it will have to be in order to stay on the air.  Hopes aren't that high, but as a SF fan and comedy fan, I hope I'm wrong.  We shall see, I suppose.

You beat me to it. I came here to post the same trailer. I like what I'm seeing. Makes me want to watch Galaxy Quest. As for this show, yeah, I'll tune it. But this is FOX, it's already DOA. The ratings won't be there and FOX is always quick to abandon a series if there is any hint that it's sinking.

I straight up admit that I'm a hard lay sometimes for SF, I didn't like Guardians Of The Galaxy despite loving the trailers, and I'm curious... but yeah, I think it'll be DOA as well b/c of Fox.  Probably fun for binging on streaming, but not something to tune into.  But there ARE enough Trek fans worldwide for the streaming rights to possibly be worth something.  But if real Trek can't work on TV anymore (evidently), how could fake Trek fare?

The thing that gets me is the stakes, I don't get the stakes (and got into an argument on io9 about it).  Galaxy Quest had great stakes, stay alive but also help the Thermians, which requires the crew to pretend to be the crew.  But individually, they all have stakes as well:  Tim Allen wants adulation but needs to be more humble, Alan Rickman wants his words to MEAN something, Guy wants to be part of the show but also wants to survive until the end, etc.  I'm not getting any of that from this.

Just watched the first two episodes of Claws and it's interesting, but a bit confusing in tone. The first episode was very serious in tone, but the second episode....even though it has serious stuff going on, was veering into comedic territory. By that I mean that Dean Norris is hamming it up like nobodies business. It's fun...just not sure what they are trying to do as far as an overall feel. I'm definitely on board though because what comes to mind is 'Breaking Bad....in Miami....well, Manatee Florida". Kinda.  Biggest WTF for me is Judy Reyes' role. She plays a Butch Lesbian....far removed from her role in Scrubs. She's practically unrecognizable here.

Ladies and Gentlemen... the new Doctor Who.

Very interesting, and obviously controversial amongst, well, the regressive types who don't deal well with change.

Checked out the first episode of Snowfall. Really like what I'm seeing. Cinematic look. Not a typical 'TV Show'. Cross between Blow and Boyz In The Hood. I'm on board for this the rest of the way. Not sure if this is a Mini Series Event or an ongoing Series.

Also checked out the first episode of Salvation. It's a 'Meteor heading straight for Earth' plot. It played okay. Not the best...but certainly not the worst. My only concern is that this is on CBS which has a horrible track record with regards to these kinds of Summer Series. Just look at Under The Dome, Zoo, Extant and you will see my concern where Salvation could end up going. For now, I'm willing to give the series a chance.

Movies With Mikey just did an episode about it.  No good to you right now, I suppose.

A Blu-Ray release WOULD be nice.

First image from Red Dwarf XII is out and... whoa.  WEIRD.

The cast were just so uncomfortable in those things, they got a new respect for Robert, whose had to wear that mask in every episode.

Quote
On being mean to Robert all this time, Danny added: "28 years of guilt, of calling him a big wuss. We literally went out bowing to [Rob], because it was amazing."

Okay, I think I'm done with Salvation. I got through Episode 2...but I'm struggling to get through Episode 3. It's falling into the same patterns of the other failed CBS Summer series. So yeah.....another one bite the dust.

Just checked out Young Sheldon. It's decent. It has a lot of potential. Big bonus is that it's more in the vein of The Wonder Years with Jim Parsons actually doing the Voice-over Narration for the series. Another show I checked today was Me, Myself & I. Now THIS is the show I'm really digging. It too kinda falls into that Wonder Years mode. The thing I really like about the Pilot episode was how it seamlessly moves from 3 different Alex Riley's storylines played by Jack Dylan Grazer, Bobby Moynihan and John Larroquette. The episode ends in such a great way that you just want to come back for more. Definitely on board with this for the rest of the season. Bonus points for getting Sharon Lawrence attached to this. I miss her. Haven't seen her in anything in a long time.

Just checked out the first 2 episodes of Marvel's Inhumans. It's interesting. There are parts that I liked and parts that just made me groan at how bad it was. It needs a lot of work.....but I'm willing to give it a shot for the next few episodes. It's growing pains and I'm willing to cut them some slack because I remember being very underwhelmed by Agents of Shield's first few episodes and then they finally found their mark. I'm hopeful that Inhumans can do the same.

NOT digging The Gifted at all. Bad writing, bad acting....bad everything. I'm willing to stick around until they get through their growing pains...but right not...this is at the bottom of my must-watch list.

Shuuuuuuuuuucks howdee!

Netflix went and did it.  They freaking did it, they greenlit a LIVE ACTION COWBOY BEBOP SERIES (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/cowboy-bebop-live-action-series-a-go-at-netflix-1164398)

Christopher Yost (Thor Ragnarok) is writing the first episode, and Javi Grillo-Marxuach (who I quite like) is also on staff and posted this picture from the writer's room.  I think we'll be all right.
