Title: Rob Lowe Roast
Post by: Mac on September 05, 2016, 08:06:28 pm
Rob Lowe Roast

Half way and so far it's brutal... But funny as hell.

Cause Ann Coultor is just getting slammed. Yes, we know all the jokes about Rob. It's the others slamming the other guests that make this very funny. I'm sure Comedy Central will replay.

Check it out

I've been waiting for this to drop for the past 3 weeks. Once it's on Comedy Central's On Demand feed, I intend to watch this for sure. The promos for the Roast were funny as f*ck.

I don't think this will be a 'Spoiler', but if you don't want to read how abysmal Ann Coulter was... then stop.

It was clear the whole time when the camera was on Ann Coulter, she was either seething, but holding back... or I'm guessing has zero sense of humor and didn't get any of it.

That became clear when it was her turn at the podium.

Ann Coulter Wrote Most of Her Rob Lowe Roast Jokes, Rejected Comedy Central Writers' Quips

"She does not understand humor or joy."

Ann Coulter did not want to use the jokes Comedy Central writers crafted for her, instead putting her own material together for the Roast of Rob Lowe, which premiered Monday, according to writers Mike Lawrence and Earl Skakel, who did a Facebook Live session after the event aired.

Coulter's performance was not well received and she was booed more than once. Even though it did not make it to air, she also had a problem with the teleprompter not working at one point, which clearly irked the conservative political commentator.

Coulter, who made it clear she was at the roast to plug her new book, In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome!, took multiple jabs at Hillary Clinton during her set. Those jokes were met with silence and some confused looks from the audience, which included Maria Shriver.

Lawrence and Skakel, with a little help from a hand puppet dubbed "Coultergeist," shared some of the jokes that were written for Coulter, which she passed on because "She does not understand humor or joy,” Lawrence said.

Some of the rejected jokes were:

“Peyton Manning is a model citizen and his forehead is a model for the wall that Trump’s going to put between the U.S. and Mexico.”

“Ralph Macchio‘s first-ever credit was in the movie, Up the Academy playing a character called Chooch Bambalazi. Are you serious? Even Donald Trump thinks it’s too racist to call a wop Chooch Bambalazi.” Lawrence added, "She turned down saying 'wop,' That's a fun joke."

"And before you ask Jeff [Ross], I wouldn't f— you with Hillary Clinton's dick."

“Rob Lowe is like America: He hasn’t been great since Reagan was president and unemployment is becoming more and more of a problem for him.”

In addition to pretty much bombing her set, Coulter was shown on camera numerous times not laughing when she was being ribbed. Lowe confirmed she did not seem to enjoy herself.

This is true. We all laughed when we got hammered. She didn't. #ItsAllGood

The Ann Coulter stuff has been circulating online and in the press since the taping of the show. Everyone already knows about it...myself included.

Has anybody been talking why she was even there?

I've heard nothing about why she was there, but I can say that after watching a few Comedy Central Roasts', they always seem to have that one odd person that doesn't belong on stage. She fits that bill.

She was there to promote her pro-Trump book.

I just watched the Rob Lowe Roast and it was like watching a train wreck. To be fair, I have the same feeling about all roasts' out there because those involved always go way over the line to the point of being mean and not funny. Now, this one in particular was an even bigger train wreck than normal and as Mac clearly pointed out, it starts and ends with Ann Coulter. She was not amused and was just biding her time so that she could hawk her book and I know that they purposely kept her second to last so that she had to stay on stage and take the abuse. Had she gone earlier in the show, she no doubt would have bailed. So, a smart move on the show runner to make sure she was stuck. As for her 'Roast' of everyone on was beyond awful. It was a lead balloon being held down by a two ton truck. You could hear a pin drop during her Roast. THAT was painful to watch and listen to.

Overall, the show was just okay for me. Ann wasn't the only one that bombed. Half the celebs on stage bombed as well. Surprisingly, Jewel turned out to be the funniest and on point with her barbs. One thing I gotta point out, when it comes to Roast in general, those getting burned on stage always offer up a fake smile or laugh to hide the fact they are trying to maintain composure but are hating what they are sitting through. To Rob's credit, he was genuinely enjoying it all. You can't fake it like that. He was having fun. Even Peyton Manning was having fun being made fun of. Worth checking out in spite of or in favor or Coulter.

Yea, the Dave Glover Show (drive time radio) was talking and brought the comparison to the old Dean Martin Roasts. Then, the roasts were by friends.

Comedy Centrals roasts are organized by find just a variety of people. There's no connection. Just people reading jokes. It's all very forced.

I did enjoy some... Yes Jewel was rather surprisingly good. I could give a rats ass about Lowe. But as Chip said, it's like a train wreck. I just had to watch because of Coulter.
