Title: Lynyrd Skynyrd
Post by: Mac on January 05, 2017, 06:53:28 pm
AXS TV is showing a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert from 2011, I believe in Chicago. Very small venue. Looks to be maybe a 1000 folks?

I was part of the fan base that loved Skynyrd. Just amazing songs. I sit here and am trying to tap my toes to anything they are performing tonight. I don't recognize the band anymore. I'm not sure who, if any original members remain. The songs are soulless. They almost seem to be this Vegas show. Stand here, walk here. Pose in the rocker stance.

I'll admit to some bias. I've long been burned out on a lot of classic rock. Especially Skynyrd. I've not followed them for years. I know they continue to put out albums, but have not heard them or seemed them out.

I do think they've become relegated to the small venue. It might be true that your only as good as the last thing you put out. While their historical catalog is strong and keeps the ship running, I see no reason for a whole evening of them.

I think I may have seen the exact same show you are referring to. I saw a Live Show of theirs maybe a year ago and wasn't impressed with who was in the band because as you said, it was lifeless. It was more autopilot then anything else. Honestly, the band ceased to exist for me the moment the plane went down.
