I loved the first two seasons of Blacks Sails and waited impatiently 1 whole f*cking year to finally get my hands on Season 3 and it was well worth the wait. I will say right off the bat that nothing was ever going to compete with Season 2. There is just no topping that season no matter how hard anyone tried. With that said, This season is a great continuation of a series that has yet to disappoint me. With each season I do expect there to be some sort of dip and that thankfully has not come to pass. I liked where the story went this season with Nassau more or less being hijacked by England, forcing it's inhabitants (Pirates) to either fall in line or flee. This is where the fun comes in with Captain Flint, John Silver and the rest of the crew mounting a resistance to the British Empire to reclaim their Island. Along the way we get a nice Treasure Hunt, only it's the Redcoats looking for the loot and not the other way around.

Everything this season is of course building up to the huge showdown between the Pirates and the British Navy and the action set piece delivered. It looked fantastic. Sounded amazing. And the pacing and edits really were its strong suit.  Also great was the addition of Ray Stevenson to the cast to play the one and only Blackbeard. He has always been a solid actor, but I wasn't expecting for him to be this good in this role. Can't wait to see what he does next season. Also great was seeing Rackham becoming a major player in the overall story here. The first two season he came across more for comedic levity. But in this season, pretty much all the plot lines were connected to him somehow. Hated to see Captain Charles Vane go, but it was expected. He can't escape the same scenario in back to back seasons. But it was how they send him off as a martyr that sets in motion for what's to come. Highly recommend this as a Buy.
