I had high hopes for Ash vs Evil Dead because I am a big fan of Bruce Campbell. He brings a certain humor to all of his projects, be it Evil Dead, Army of Darkness and even Brisco County Jr as well. Now I heard that a lot of people were raving about Season 1 as being amazing. But the way people have built it up is very misleading. Even though I was thoroughly entertained, it's not without some serious flaws that were just too big to overlook. I'm nitpicking here, especially from something that has always been rooted in tongue-in-cheek humor. So I'm not expecting Shakespearean writing...but I am expecting some thought and effort put into it.

My issues are primarily the way a lot of the dialogue was written as well as character motivations that just draw too much attention to itself. There are too many instances of bad dialogue to break down here, so I will zero in on the  Amanda (Cop). She experiences a very traumatic event in killing her partner and starts doubting things around her. Yet when she crosses path with the other characters (Ruby and Ash), she isn't even at all surprised at what is going on around her. She's actually ambivalent and just willingly goes along for the ride, completely unaware of her present situation as well as what happened in the past. The same can be said for Pablo and Kelly to a lesser extent.

Anyway, in spite of these issues I have for Season 1, I really did enjoy the end results. I just can't go along and agree with everyone else raving this is the best thing ever. It's not. I can however say this is definitely worth a Rent. You don't even have to see any of the films to jump right into it. Sure, you will benefit and pick up on the Easter Eggs if you have seen them, but it's not necessary. Definitely looking forward to Season 2.
