Title: The Walking Dead (Season 3 - 2012)
Post by: Mac on October 26, 2011, 10:08:14 am
Placeholder for season 3...

The Walking Dead (Season 3) - AMC (http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/45038228/ns/today-entertainment/)

LOS ANGELES — Surging to record high ratings in the first two episodes of its second season, AMC's "The Walking Dead" just earned itself a third campaign.

Through the first two suspense-packed episodes of season two, AMC noted in its renewal announcement that the zombie-apocalypse drama has broken cable ratings records in the 18-49 demo.

Despite the turmoil that came with Glen Mazzara replacing Frank Darabont as show runner, hordes of viewers have tuned in to see the fate of sheriff's deputy Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his band of survivors.

The Oct. 16 season premiere broke a basic cable record set nearly 10 years ago for a single drama telecast ("The Dead Zone"). The 90-minute episode scored a 4.8 household rating, and 7.3 million total viewers.

The 4.8 million viewers in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic represented a 36 percent uptick over last season's average. The 4.2 viewers in the 25-54 demo were up 38 percent.

Yeah, I heard about the renewal a few days ago. I was gonna start a Season 3 thread, but figured that since this is your baby I'd let you run with it. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/HTL_smile.gif)

Now onto the show itself, I was pretty certain that with the lukewarm reception of Season 1 finale and then the subsquent firing of Frank Darabont that this would be a make or break season for the series. But the fact that they made the renewal for Season 3 based on just the numbers for the premiere episode was a bit surprising to me given the fact that AMC has been whining about cost inflation.

Apparently they've been able to stay within the reduced budget and maintain integrity of the story.

If it's like a lot businesses... AMC just may comeback and say - do it again, for even less money.  :-\

16 episodes for season 3. Up from 13 for season 2

Quote
While AMC has already announced a third season for ''The Walking Dead'', the cabler revealed that they've boosted the order from 13 episodes to 16! For you bad with math, that's a little over two hours more of undead mayhem.

The second season rose form the dead with monster ratings as the October 16 premiere drew 7.3 million total viewers — a 38 percent surge over the show’s Season 1 average. Nearly 5 million of those viewers fell into the coveted 18-49 crowd, a basic cable record.

Returning February 12, "'The Walking Dead' tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. County Sheriff Rick Grimes travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. But the constant pressure of fighting off death on a daily basis takes a heavy toll, sending many to the lowest depths of human cruelty. As Rick struggles to keep his family alive, he will discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth."

Personally I think 16 is about a good number of episodes per season for TWD. Anything more than that would be overkill and runs the risk of quality taking a hit. I rather have a shorter (13-16 episodes) season of kick ass episode, instead a longer season with mediocre episode. I think everyone would agree on this.

My referrer stats tell me everyone in the world is googling for this information right now, so let’s just get it out there.  The character Michonne has been in the news the past few days, and now we see it’s for good reason… AMC has just announced that actress Danai Gurira has been cast in the role for The Walking Dead Season 3.  Gurira has had a role in Treme and has numerous other credits to her name from Law & Order to Life On Mars. And if you haven’t seen last night’s Walking Dead ep yet, skip the rest…

Season 3 will kick it up a notch...

Walking Dead is easily one of the best shows on TV hands down and I am without a trace of doubt incredibly excited for The Walking Dead’s third season. That does not negate however the fact that the second season of Walking Dead was a less then stellar follow-up. Where the first season was spectacular from opening to end The Walking Dead Season 2 suffered in many ways not least of which is likely due to a massive budget cut.

The second season’s pace was horribly slow and the greatly reduced budget was painfully obvious as the series spent the entire first half of season two looking for a missing girl with Hershel’s farm as the backdrop. I could not figure out if the lack of imagination at the start of Season 2 was a result of Frank Darabont being fired, poor writing, or if it was simply an effort by AMC to drag the original seasons 6 episodes to 13 episodes.

AMC’s The Walking Dead still managed to lure in record numbers of viewers and in my view still managed to accomplish its goals of delivering great television but any way you cut it Season 2 was very dry and Season 3 needs to pack a much harder punch or fans of The Walking Dead will very quickly start tuning out.

The season finale in contrast to the rest of the second season was in a word spectacular and easily compensated for a lackluster start to the second season and in a matter of a few short minutes introduced some new key elements that will make Season 3 must see TV.

As Andrea is fleeing for her life after a mass of destruction at the farm we are introduced to a hooded woman with two chained, literally disarmed zombies whom we all know as the katana toting Michone. Michone will be  a great and much needed replacement to Shane’s character in The Walking Dead Season 3.

Michonne is a complex character that is all business but also mentally unstable making her a fantastic character. The story behind her two chained zombie companions is one that I for one will not spoil here but is just one great example of what made the writing in the novels so great.

More importantly we catch in the closing seconds of Season two a glimpse of one of the most important scenes from the Walking Dead, the prison. The prison will introduce the television fans to one of the darkest and most destructive characters of the graphic novels, The Governor ( played by David Morrisey ).

The Governor’s impact on Rick Grimes and his family is catastrophic and it will be interesting to see just how much their interaction follows Robert Kirkman’s original work.

The Walking Dead Season 3 will not only feature the zombie slaying katana toting Michonne and The Governor but will also see the return of one of my favorite characters from Walking Dead season one….. Meryl. Daryls older racist and trouble making brother will  introduce a new ‘cain and abel’ angle to the third season of The Walking Dead according to Michael Rooker who plays the role of Meryl.

Walking Dead Season 3 will introduce us to new characters, an old favorite and here is hoping new highs for the TV franchise. AMC has made it very clear they want to see The Walking Dead carry on for many more seasons but key to that will be engaging with fans and keeping us entertained.

One thing is for sure, I am very excited for The Walking Dead Season 3. Despite naysayers who said season two was far too slow it still managed to draw in millions of viewers and the season finale brought in a staggering 9 million viewers. Lets just hope this is enough incentive for AMC to give the production team behind The Walking Dead the money they need and deserve to make Season 3 spectacular.

One thing is for sure with the return of Meryl, the introduction of Michone and The Governor their are some very rich new characters that make the third season hard to miss!  Are you a fan of The Walking Dead? What did you think of Season 2? What do you hope to see in the third season?

Danai Gurira Talks Michonne Role In 'The Walking Dead'

Quote
The third season of The Walking Dead can't come soon enough. I'm literally dying to see how they utilize both Michonne and The Governor, two major character arcs implemented in Robert Kirkman's excellent comic series.

With David Morrissey starring as the iconic Governor, Danai Gurira was revealed in season 2's finale as the sword-wielding, ass-kicking Michonne. The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Gurira recently to talk about the character's future.

"I'm going to develop [the character] with [showrunner] Glen Mazzara and the whole creative team. They have their own take on the source material," she reveals, explaining that the series will move in a different direction than the comic. "I'm going to be meeting with them next week to get an understanding of what their take is and how she grows and develops. I'll find out the answer to that in the coming weeks in terms of exactly how she will map out with what she is in the books vs. what she will be on the screen."

Gurira continues, "I was trying to really investigate a character and allow her to have as much dimension as possible and crack it open even more. What you see through the writing and vision of the creator, you add to it by bringing your full humanity and by really delving into the character's background and their motives and fears, all those things can make a multi-dimensional character come to life. That's how I've been trained from the beginning and how I've created characters in the past on the stage or through my playwriting. I plan to bring all of that to the table to allow Michonne to be as rich and complex as possible. I'm excited to bring her to life as someone who really has a lot of life and a lot of complexity."

If anything, this show needs some fresh meat and better characters. Michonne, the Governor and a battle at a prison sounds like a good start to me..

FAQ

When will Season 3 premiere?
October 2012.

Will there be another midseason break, like Season 2?
This has not been determined yet.

When will Season 2 be out on DVD?

No release date has been announced yet.

How do I become a zombie?
Zombie extras are professional actors hired through casting companies.

Will we see Morgan or Duane again?
We don't comment on future storylines.

Will we see Merle again?
Again, we don't comment on future storylines

Will you deviate from the comics for Michonne, the Governor, the Prison, etc?
Yes, we have our own story to tell

If we are all infected, how did the people on the highway die in their cars?
Robert Kirkman answered this in Issue 95 of the comic. Robert says, "Any non zombie corpses you saw on the highway either suffered severe brain trauma in a car crash that resulted in that pileup, or had another brain damaging event that killed them. They could have even been zombies in the car for awhile -- until someone came along and killed them. We were well aware of the coming reveal when we wrote those scenes early in the season (Season 2)."

Do zombies poop?
No, they don't, they only have a brain telling them to eat.

Hey, Glen, why don't you answer my questions on Twitter?

Glen receives many, many tweets a day and is doing the best he can.

Will we see winter in the show?
Again, we don't comment on future storylines.

Any plans to do a flashback and show how the Zombie Apocalypse started?
No plans.

Any plans to do more webisodes?

Yes, but we don't have a release date for them yet.

I am going through The Walking Dead withdrawal, what do I do until October?

Hang in there, Season 3 is worth the wait!

The cast and producers from AMC's zombie drama The Walking Dead reflected on death in the post-apocalyptic world during the show's bloody sophomore second year and looked to the future Friday during a lively panel at the TV Academy in North Hollywood.

Showrunner Glen Mazzara, executive producer/comic creator Robert Kirkman, exec producer Gale Anne Hurd and co-EP/effects supervisor Greg Nicotero were joined by cast members Andrew Lincoln (Rick), Jon Bernthal (Shane), Sarah Wayne Callies (Lori), Laurie Holden (Andrea), Steven Yeun (Glenn), Lauren Cohan (Maggie) and Scott Wilson (Hershel) during the two-hour panel where they looked back on the season that was and dropped cryptic teasers about Season 3. Here are 15 highlights:

1. Shane's death was always in the cards. "This end was always going to happen," Bernthal said, noting early conversations with former showrunner Frank Darabont about Shane's trajectory allowed him to be strategic with the way he played the character who walked the line between hero and villain for two seasons.

2. After coming out the victor during the "18 Miles Out" episode in which Shane and Rick finally come to blows, Lincoln would bet on his former on-screen rival to come out on top were the former cast mates to come to fisticuffs in real life. "He's a lot bigger than me and in a real fight, he'd win in seconds," Lincoln said to laughs.

3. Getting the call to go see makeup artist/co-producer Nicotero is the kiss of death. Bernthal and Wilson both recalled getting the word that they needed to pay a visit to the effects whiz to be outfitted with makeup as their characters were being killed off. "When actors get a call from me it's, 'Oh s---!'" Nicotero said with a laugh. The cast, meanwhile, have a "death dinner" to bid farewell their on-screen family members after shooting the episode.

4. Producers reaffirmed that they opted not to kill off Hershel as they'd originally intended because it didn't move the story forward. "We were just stepping over a body; it felt too violent, too gratuitous," Mazzara said. But nobody told Wilson as much as he'd already had the conversation with Nicotero that he was being axed and the actor just continued to get scripts. "I said, 'It's been fun,'" Wilson said, to which Bernthal immediately joked: "That's how you stay on? You say, 'It's been fun'?" As for whether Hershel will continue to be a "bad-ass with a rifle" in Season 3, Mazzara was less than forthcoming: "We'll see what happens in October," he deadpanned.

5. Dale's death was one for the walkers. Mazzara noted the series "really needed a zombie death" as it was running the risk of being safe and needed to have someone killed at the hands of the undead. "Dale was the only worthy sacrifice; people would see Shane's death coming but no one would see Dale's death coming," Mazzara told the audience, with Kirkman noting the loss of the group's moral compass added more suspense to Shane's eventual death in the following episode. The loss of the character -- whose comic counterpart outlived him by a mile -- will continue to be felt, mostly by Andrea and Glenn, Holden said. A fun fact: the scene in which Dale died wasn't rehearsed, at the request of episode director Nicotero.

6. Sophia's shocking death at the end of the Season 2 midseason finale took even series star Lincoln by surprise. "It felt like the Wild West," he recalled. "The carnage was shocking." The pain medication the actor was on at the time for an injured back "helped tremendously," he joked. Producers, meanwhile, took extra care to make sure young actress Madison Lintz had a good zombie experience, creating custom flavored zombie teeth for her to wear during the heartbreaking scene.

7. Carl is the anchor of the series, Callies said. Rick and Lori's continued struggle over how to raise their son in a post-apocalyptic world remains a source of contention for the on-screen couple. "There are days when Lori thinks the best thing I can do for this kid is find someone else to raise him and then there are days when she thinks I have to keep this guy [Rick] away from him, then there are days where I think I have to keep this guy [Shane] away from him," she said. "Every day it's a sense of being unearthed and uprooted from yourself."

8. Lori is a stranger to herself in the aftermath of Shane's death. Following a season in which her son was shot, she learned she was pregnant and her husband and son killed her former lover, Callies says the character has crossed so many boundaries that she doesn't recognize herself. Calling Shane's death a "necessary execution," Lincoln says the troubled couple are not at a particularly healthy point right now and questioned whether Rick has a breaking point. "His strength and resilience is extraordinary," he said. Added Mazzara: "It's an apocalypse, what are they going to do? They can't get divorced!"

9. The "Ricktatorship" was the end game for Season 2. After spending the first half of the season playing by Hershel's rules and rounding up zombies to keep alive in the barn, Rick had to make the transition from naive to practical. "You have to keep evolving," Lincoln said. "How do we define ourselves?  How do we re-establish humanity?"

10. Glenn and Maggie's romance allows both characters to grow. The former pizza delivery guy started walking a little taller and valuing his skills more after Maggie reminded him of the value he brings to the group. "It's always good to have something to live for," Yeun noted. "It opens your character up."

11. Kirkman is testing AMC to see if the cable network has a limit with how disgusting the zombie kills can be. "It's my goal to get to that point, I want to know that limit," he said. Pushing the boundaries is something Nicotero clearly relishes, as the former Day of the Dead effects artist intentionally tested the network by peeling away a walker's face in a scene following a car crash this season.

12. Season 3 spoilers were at a minimum, despite Mazzara just having completed the script for the premiere. "It's pretty dynamic and action-packed with tons of zombies but also a lot of quieter moments and a lot of heart," he teased. "This is a group of survivors, a family that has come together and they have no good options, no place to go and they're really trying to keep themselves alive, and keep each other alive. You can see how desperate they are; they're clinging to each other. It's those moment of human interaction and heart that are important."

13. "The good stuff is coming," according to Kirkman. "For comic fans, they know the good stuff is coming, the really intense stuff with Michonne, the Governor and Woodbury [prison] really defined the comic book series and we haven't even gotten to that stuff yet," he said. "So now that we're getting to that stuff in Season 3, it's really going to change the show quite a bit."

13. T-Dogg (IronE Singleton) will continue to trend on Twitter during every episode -- "in a good way," Mazzara said. Acknowledging that the fan-favorite character is considered to have been under used this season, the showrunner explained T-Dogg has been intentionally quiet as he watches the insanity unfold around him.

14. The epic way in which Dale died in the comic series could still make its way onto the AMC drama -- for another character. In the long-running Image series, Dale winds up being bitten by a walker, kidnapped by cannibals and having his infected leg cut off and consumed before being set free and dying at Andrea's side. "There will be cases where something memorable like that will be displaced and given to somebody else," Kirkman said. "I'll hint that that actually happens in our first episode back in Season 3 -- there's something memorable that happened to a character in the comic is happening in the show in our first episode back and it's not the same character."

15. Daryl (Norman Reedus) will continue to grow. Carol's (Melissa McBride) "knight in shining armor" will continue to be Rick's right-hand man in Season 3. "It's interesting to put him in a position of power," Nicotero said. (Reedus had a wedding to attend Saturday and was unable to join the cast during Friday's panel.)
What were your highlights from Season 2 and what are you looking forward to seeing in Season 3? The Walking Dead returns in October.

On the set with comic creator and series executive Robert Kirkman

Q: After two seasons, you must feel like an old pro on set. What aspects of production still surprise you?

A: One thing that's surprising me is how much I've fallen in love with Georgia. The town Senoia where we're filming is absolutely beautiful...The big change this season is we've got this amazing prison that we're filming in. It's absolutely stunning, and I never get used to being on set.

Q: What went into constructing the prison?

A: They've taken a lot of what you see in the comic book series and brought it to life in ways that I didn't think possible. This is going to be one of the most impressive looking things that's ever been put together for a show.

Q: The room in the prison with all the guns and the SWAT gear in the comic is really cool. Is that going to come up on the show?

A: We're a big fan of the SWAT gear here at The Walking Dead writer's room... maybe that's an indication that we'll be seeing that stuff in the show. It's important to us to maintain the tone of the show. Thus far [the characters] have been out on the road, desperate and living in the heat, and we don't want it to be that they're relaxing in this safe place now.

Q: With the evil Governor in the picture, does that mean the humans are the bigger threat this season?

A: The plan was always to evolve naturally into a place where the zombies essentially become a manageable threat. You know the rules. You know how to deal with them. To a certain extent they become something to not really be scared of unless you mess up. Humans, however, do not follow any rules and will always do something that surprises you and are capable of doing things far worse than trying to eat you...We're definitely going to be seeing a lot of horrible things.

Q: What can you tell us about David Morrissey's portrayal of the Governor? Have you seen him in costume yet?

A: I'm actually waiting desperately to see him dressed up in Governor mode and walking the streets of Woodbury. I think he's going to be absolutely great playing against Andrew Lincoln.

Q: Michonne was introduced in the Season 2 Finale. How are Danai Gurira's sword skills shaping up?

A: There's been quite a bit of sword training going on and [Danai] is doing an amazing job. She's going to be do all of the hard character stuff and drama that The Walking Dead is known for, but she has tremendous physical capability and the sword training that I've seen is absolutely amazing. I can't wait to see her hack up some zombies.

Q: Can you tell us anything about the sword she's using?

A: She's using a sword that we specially designed for the show...The origins of the sword will be revealed on the show.

Q: This season has got so many exciting story lines...

A: When you think about The Walking Dead comic series, you think about oh, the stuff they with did the Governor, the stuff they did with the prison and Woodbury and Michonne. And that's really a lot of the stuff that people remember the story for and that's stuff we haven't even gotten to in the TV show yet. So as much as people love the show, and as high as the ratings are, and as cool as the show is, I feel like we haven't even gotten to the good stuff yet. This season is absolutely going to blow people away.

Q: You're developing another of your comics, Thief of Thieves, with AMC. What can you tell us about that project?

A: Thief of Thieves is a great heist story about a man named Conrad Paulson who leads a double life as a master thief known internationally as Redman...I am working with Chic Eglee, who is a fantastic writer who worked on the first season of The Walking Dead, and right now we are in the pilot development stage, so he's going to be working hard on the pilot script and once that's written we'll go from there. But it's really exciting to be working with AMC again.

Q: This season will be 16 episodes instead of 13. Are you looking forward to the longest production time yet?

A: The actors and the crew and a lot of the producers would not be thrilled to hear me saying this, but I love doing 16 episodes a year. I think the more the better, and I think it's a lot of fun. We are going to get to tell bigger stories, and tell more stories, and get into the characters a lot more. So the more the merrier.

I'm okay with 16 episodes for Season 3, but any more than that and I think they run the risk of thinning out the writing just for the sake of advertising dollars to see for a few additional weeks.

“The Walking Dead” Obstacle Course!

Quote
If you live in San Diego, or find yourself there for Comic-Con from July 12th-14th, you might want to hit up the official Robert Kirkman endorsed “The Walking Dead” obstacle course! It’s located in Petco Park and promises to be fairly badass!

From the official site, “The course has been specifically designed for participants with a wide range of abilities. The world we know is about to end. An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions will sweep the globe causing the dead to rise and feed on the living. The only way to survive is to buy an Evac Pass, track the virus and get out before it is too late. In a matter of months society will crumble and San Diego will be first of many cities to fall. Only a few will escape. Some won’t even try.”

You can participate as a living Survivor, an undead Walker, or a spectator. To find out more, and get tickets, hit up The Walking Dead Escape.

I don't think many people will go during Comic Con. All of humanity hits the convention center when the Con is in full effect. Sure, Petco Park is literally right across the street. But then again, I don't know how rabid the fans are about it. So, who knows. Me, I'll be trying my damnedest to pick up Wonder Woman, Emma Frost, Harley Quinn and a slew of other hot babes in and out of Cos Play. Not likely to hit on a Walker, no matter how big her  t i t s  are. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/banana.gif)

Hey 'Walking Dead' Fans -- It's Your First Look at Danai Gurira as Michonne!

As fans of the Walking Dead comic book well know, Michonne is arguably the most exciting character in Robert Kirkman's post-apocalyptic saga. A damaged warrior swordswoman battling demons within and without, she is, with all due respect to Rick Grimes, the series' true iconic breakout character. So there's little reason to think that the AMC TV adaptation's Michonne won't prove equally popular when she makes her debut in The Walking Dead's third season. (The character appeared briefly, wearing a hood, in season 2's finale.) Check out the first full official photo of actress Danai Gurira in the role after the jump.

Arguably THE WALKING DEAD's biggest threat (aside from The Walking Dead themselves, of course), the Governor's impending arrival on the series' third season is big news for fans. TV Guide has the first image of actor David Morrissey as the sick bastard, and while I've never been one to whine about aesthetic differences, the lack of handlebar sleaze does make him seem a bit less grody than his illustrated counterpart.

WALKING DEAD creator Robert Kirkman reassures viewers however, telling TV Guide we can expect the same heartless son of a **** we got on the page. "The Governor in the show is definitely going to be The Governor in the comic. I think that he's definitely going to be a character that people love to hate and are absolutely entertained by, but also somewhat terrified of. He's definitely going to be a very important character and a very nuanced character. We are not going to be watering him down."

I have faith in Kirkman staying true to the source material because he is still a fan of both comics and the genre and wouldn't go too far outside the box just to appease some wet-behind-the-ears studio suit who doesn't have a creative bone in his body.

Visual Effects Behind The Scenes Video For “Walking Dead” Season 3 Teases A Lot, Shows Very Little

Well, slap my forehead. I'm rather surprised at the amount of CGI used. I didn't even think about all the zombies. Figured they were practical.

Teaser Season 3 (http://bcove.me/luq6qrd5)

AMC’s third season of “The Walking Dead” is in the midst of production and, while it will be a while before it starts airing, the network has not been shy about keeping the show on everyone’s radar. This behind-the-scenes video with Visual Effects Supervisor Victor Scalise shows a lot of cool stuff from Season 2, and hints a little bit about what’s to come in Season 3. Unfortunately since we’re still some months off from the show’s premiere we’ll have to wait to see any actual footage.

The show, “tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. County Sheriff Rick Grimes travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. But the constant pressure of fighting off death on a daily basis takes a heavy toll, sending many to the lowest depths of human cruelty. As Rick struggles to keep his family alive, he will discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth.”

EW has landed two new images from AMC’s third season of “The Walking Dead“, both taking us inside the hotly anticipated prison setting that was one of the epicenters of Image and Robert Kirkman’s comic series.

In the first photo, our survivors assume a defensive, Avengers-like position to handle any incoming ghouls, while in the second, a machete wielding Maggie (Lauren Cohan) prepares to deliver a kill shot to a zombie inmate.

“I’m incredibly proud of the prison,” says showrunner Glen Mazzara to the mag. “I think our crew has done a great job. It’s a huge sense of scale and magnitude I haven’t seen on any other show as far as construction. What’s important to us is the prison itself is now a character in the show. It’s a haunted house, it’s scary, it’s frightening, and there are parts of the prison that are always terrifying, that are always inaccessible to our group. It’s not necessarily the blessing that the prison in the comic book turned out to be.”

But we all know why we’re really excited… the introduction of both Michonne (Danai Gurira) and The Governor (David Morrissey). Hell, friggin’, yes.

So I caught the early teaser of Season 3 Talking Dead for this October’s Walking Dead. Frustrating would be the first word to come to mind. They had on the creator Kirkman, the producer and for some odd reason Drew Carey. I guess for levity, because from what I caught, Carey watches the show and that’s about it.

Anyway, Talking Dead’s host Chris Hardwick was trying desperately to squeeze out and kind of juicy information about what to expect in the upcoming season. No luck. Everybody was vague, but mostly tight lipped about any info. Except for a couple of short films about Chris visiting the set and playing with guns, this show was about as informative as any of us sitting around and speculating what’s going to happen.

The one thing interesting point I got out of it, is the idea that, in this zombie world, survivors are looking to find safety in a prison. Something that normally you want no part of.

They teased a clip from Season 3 which was intense for the 30 seconds they did show. But c’mon… 30 seconds?

On the bright side, AMC did follow up Talking Dead with the very first Black & White episode. I forgot what transpired. The introduction of characters, the rapid change in the world, Rick and Shane. That was pretty cool.

I like the head cam because you could tell the person was freaked out the further they got into it. Just watching them slow down and constantly looking left and right and around corners tells me they were waiting for Zombies to pop up out of nowhere. I know it's unrealistic because this is all volunteer work but they needed a hell of a lot more Zombies throughout the maze to really sell the idea of an apocalypse.

New Character Announced for The Walking Dead Season 3

Quote

It looks like Season 3 of "The Walking Dead" is going to bring us another new character independent of the comics. He'll be working with the Governor in Woodbury, and considering how well adding Merle and Daryl to the mix turned out, we say bring him on!

EW got the scoop that Dallas Roberts (The Gray, "Rubicon," "The Good Wife") will be stepping in to play Milton, one of the residents of the Governor-ruled community of Woodbury.

“Milton is the details guy,” explains executive producer Robert Kirkman. “He’s the guy that works with the Governor (David Morrissey), who is monitoring all situations and is trying to help the Governor make sense of this world that they’re living in. He’s not exactly a scientist, but he’s a smart guy that is trying to find out how zombies behave. Watching him do his little experiments is going to be a lot of fun.”

According to showrunner Glen Mazzara, in Milton we will see an example of someone finding a way to make himself useful, even if he is not necessarily a physically imposing presence. “We were examining, ‘How do people survive in this apocalyptic world, and what can people contribute?’” says Mazzara, “and we didn’t think it was plausible that every single character we meet is an efficient zombie killer. We just didn’t buy that everyone we know would be active and deft enough to kill every walker. We wanted to show how other people survive, and Dallas has come in and helped us establish that character. He just adds a lot of heart and humanity to Woodbury, which further complicates what that is. That is a real town with real people and real survivors. It’s not necessarily a group of bad guys.”

"The Walking Dead" returns for a third season on Sunday, October 14th.

Seed
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_05star.gif)

Now THAT's how you open up a long awaited season. It took a while to get here, but the results were very satisfying for me. Those that complained in the "lack of Walkers" last season are certain to be pleased with the onslaught of Seed. With the gang roaming and looking for food and shelter, they stumble upon a Maximum Security Prison. Home Sweet Home. First things first, they have to battle their way into the complex and then do recon from cell block to cell block. As you can imagine, there are tons more Walkers.

I knew there would be a moment that proved fatalistic as they kept pressing their luck looking throughout the Prison and sure enough, Hershel is the one that gets it. My immediate reaction as soon as the Walker gnawed on his ankle was to get a sword and cut off his leg to stop the spread of the infected blood and wouldn't you know it, that's exactly what Rick did and it was gruesome. The gore factor in this one is definitely through the roof and I think a lot of it has to do with fan service. I approve. Solid episode and sets up the season to come.

Elsewhere, we see that a sick Andrea and Michonne are holed up elsewhere, surrounded by Walkers themselves. Where exactly they are is not clear. Their paths will eventually lead them to the Prison no doubt.

You can already see it. Obviously they is a major riff between Rick and Lori. But while watching the episode, even though they are grateful that Rick has manage to keep them all alive, I got the sense that they are kinda scared of him and his new 'take charge' attitude. I would like to see some flashbacks to the missing months that they skipped over to enlighten us on what transpired.

That was another brutal episode. They really are cranking up the gore factor this season, more so than the first two seasons combined. Another great episode. I get why Rick wants to give people the benefit of the doubt and handle them with kid gloves. But dude, when you run into a bunch of convicts in a Maximum Security Prison, you have to know they are not there because of unpaid parking tickets. I really don't get why Rick was letting the scenario play out as long as it did, just waiting for them to make their move and try and take you down. When he finally put the blade to 'Greasy Hair Prisoner', it was about f*cking time!

This was one exhausting episode that never really let up. I'm glad that Hershel pulled through and made it without turning. Not only did the characters on the show need a 'Win', but the viewers as well. Getting back to Rick, he did make a fatal mistake in letting that other prisoner run off and it's going to come back to bite him in the ass and I'm pretty sure the one that was spying on Carol while she is practicing her C-Section skills on the Walker is the Prisoner that ran off. I can tell ya he is gonna take her hostage and wouldn't you know it, that's when Lori will go into labor.............

I forgot to mention last week that I approve of the new Opening Credit sequence. I was never a fan of the original credit scene because I just didn't like the fact that only 3 actors had their faces inserted into the credits and the rest did not. It never sit well with me. In the new one, there are no faces and makes the cast come off more of an ensemble and not Actor X with a bunch of other actors along for the ride.

A pretty good commentary... (full of spoilers)

Walking Dead's Rick on his 'incredibly brutal' S3 machete-wielding

Quote
There's no denying that Rick Grimes, the protagonist of AMC's The Walking Dead, has taken a turn since he first rode a horse into Atlanta looking for his wife and son after waking up in the middle of a zombie apocalypse two seasons ago.

[Spoiler alert!]

In fact, he may just be moving from the "hero" to "anti-hero" category now that he's killed countless Walkers, blown away two dangerous human types in a bar, killed his best friend Shane, macheted a former inmate and hacked off Hershel's leg to keep him from turning into a Walker.

It's been one tough road for the former lawman and his small band of survivors as they hunt for safe haven and possibly find it in a prison after eight months on the run, and English actor Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick, is thrilled to see the evolution, or maybe de-evolution, of his character.

"I think his humanity is pretty intact, but his ruthlessness or his decision-making has very much moved into a Shane point of view," said Lincoln during a conference call with journalists. "We obviously meet this gang at such a desperate and low act in their story, in [season three's first episode] that they're pushed into this position to take something that probably, in any other circumstances, would have been a death wish."

Even in these circumstances, taking on a prison filled with Walkers could still be considered a death wish. But in the story, Rick's wife Lori is pregnant, and they're surrounded by Walkers at every turn. So the unforgiving walls of a prison seem like a possible safe haven.

However, the living prisoners the group found wound up on the wrong side of Rick, and a couple of them paid the price, as Rick drove a machete through one's skull and chased another one into a prison yard filled with Walkers.

"There is an uncompromising nature that I think has happened over time to Rick. And also I think that the other thing to bear in mind is that he is the most isolated, I think, even within his group and in his relationship with everybody in the group, especially his wife," said Lincoln. "So I don't think he's the most stable. Certainly when I was playing it [and killing the inmates], I wanted it to be an instantaneous, almost Pavolvian reaction to this situation, which in season one and season two, certainly, I think, he wouldn't have been so quick to make that judgment call."

For Lincoln, "That's one of the beautiful things. That's one of the joys of playing Rick. ... The moral ambiguity in the show is the most interesting part for me, certainly as an actor, because in any other world, in any other situation that wasn't, you know, hell, you wouldn't make these judgment calls or you wouldn't be pushed into this corner to make these calls."

The thing that helps Rick justify his decision is that the group's safety is his priority, he said. "So it is a sort of selfless act even though it is incredibly brutal. ... It's born out of a selflessness," he said. As far as his humanity, "I think certainly as we go through this season it diminishes and diminishes, is all I will say."

Looking back through the first two seasons, Rick appeared to have little choice in his violent acts. He killed the guys in the bar because they would have killed him and endangered the group. He killed Shane because Shane was going to kill him. But the prisoners, while the first one threw a Walker on him and deserved that machete, the second one was just running away. Rick's calculated act of locking the man in with Walkers to almost certain death showed us a very changed man.

"I always say that with Rick, everything costs, every responsibility for each death costs him, and by definition changes him. Which is one of the great things about playing him, is that he's very mercurial. I mean, he keeps developing and moving, and it's kind of elusive," said Lincoln.

Killing the prisoners who he didn't know was one thing. But hacking off Hershel's leg in a horrifying moment also told us everything about Rick's season-three state of mind.

"It was an incredibly shocking moment, actually," said Lincoln. Shooting the scene "was the most intense, adrenaline-fueled thing that I probably had ever done in this show."

Lincoln didn't believe they were going to get away with showing the graphic scene on television. "Apparently because I'm saving his life or attempting to save his life, that's why we were allowed to show it, which really makes me laugh. I'm trying to save his life with a meat cleaver, which is probably the first time I've ever tried to save anyone's life with a meat cleaver. But certainly that was an incredibly distressing and strange out-of-body experience. But just rest assured there are countless others in this season. I think that it always seems to be the case that the writers' room are trying to up the ante each episode," he said.

"I kind of made the fatal error of walking into the writers' room and suggesting, 'What do you think Rick's breaking point is?' And certainly this season we find out," said Lincoln. "I think the thing I was constantly surprised at is—certainly over the last few seasons—is his incredible resilience and resolve and being able to just come back from these tumultuous, cataclysmic kind of events."

However, as the season progresses, not all the group will be on board with Rick's actions. "Over the course of this season I think that people start to doubt many things in Rick, but certainly his decision-making as a leader is very much called into question this season." Especially involving the "primal" moments that seem "borne out of fury and rage" even as he protects the group.

"I wanted to sow the seeds of doubt, certainly in the first two episodes, that there is some decision-making that is pretty irrational and some choices that he makes that, like in a classic Greek tragedy, come back to haunt him," said Lincoln. "He is sort of coming apart, but he's doing a very good impersonation of someone holding it together at the moment. ... Like you go down the rabbit hole for, you know, 30 seconds, and you go with him. And then suddenly everyone comes up for air and you went, 'What the hell just happened then?' And I wanted that to be the experience, certainly, that I was feeling as an actor, and hopefully that translates to this, to the viewer."

I was wondering if we were ever going to see the Governor and Merle. They had hyped this up for so long that I was expecting to get a full hour of these guys and more during the Season Premiere. Alas, we finally get that episode tonight and it was pretty good. I knew that their idyllic life in the small town was a cover for something far more sinister. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I saw the ending coming a mile away. Kill or be killed, even if the opposition means you no harm. There is a lot to take away from what the Governor did at the end having his men kill on the Soldiers. My guess is that part of it does have to do with getting as much ammo as possible and trying to "reason" with people that will probably not share in your views is the tipping point. I also think that the Governor wants to eliminate and and all men as possible. Why? Procreation, baby! You really think he wants to have competition when the women are far and few between?

Oh, the other reason why he gunned them down is he is one F*CKED up nut job that likes to keep his trophies in fish tanks. That's the craziest thing I've seen on TWD so far. Jeffery Dahmer Mach 2.0 is what I'm guessing he is.

Well the Merele character should play out pretty good when he meets his brother.

That last scene was truly disturbing. WTF

And finally, a reasonable guess with 'the pets'

Yeah, I'm glad they finally gave us some insight as to why she would have Zombie Pets. Now, the question is, are were they family members? Ma and Pa perhaps? She may have been suffering the same affliction that Hershel was going through when keeping his family members locked up in the barn.

Stunned. Just unbelievable episode. I've never seen a show just ramp it up week in and week out to the point of exhaustion. The original crew is now completely decimated with them killing off T-Dog, which was brutal in itself and killing off Lori. But it was the way they got rid of her that was truly heartbreaking. To force an emergency C-Section to save the baby knowing full well that it would take her own life is one thing, but to have Carl shoot her afterwards so she wouldn't turn is just taking this series to another level. I applaud the show runner's to have the balls to kill off characters to keep this grounded in "reality". But no more. I really don't want to see a completely different cast 2 seasons from now. Anyway, another fantastic episode that I won't soon forget.

Why are these two guys so quick to say that Carol is dead? They found a scarf. Big deal. Since I haven't read anything beyond Volume 1 of the series, I don't know for a fact that she is or isn't. But if we are going strictly on the episode, where do they come up with that? I think she is hiding out. It's a prison and a big one at that. So, let's say she is trying to stay alive by any means necessary and holed up somewhere till it's safe and clear to reveal herself.

If anyone has information to the contrary about Carol being dead or Melissa McBride leaving the show, please keep the information to yourself or at least put it in spoilers so that I don't read it by mistake. Thanks for your time, there are some cookies on the table. Help yourself to as many as you want on the way out the door..............

Hines Ward was a rotting zombie on 'Walking Dead'

Quote

Even famous people get caught in the zombie apocalypse. In Sunday's episode of AMC's "The Walking Dead," Pittsburgh Steeler (and "Dancing With the Stars" champ) Hines Ward was one of the rotting zombies seen in a prison scene.

IronE Singleton, who plays T-Dog, was Ward's college teammate at the University of Georgia. (Sunday was an eventful episode for T-Dog.) Ward's connection to Singleton, and the fact that the show shoots in his home state of Georgia, helped him land the role.

A video from NFL Films reveals that Ward was the first real celebrity to be buried in zombie makeup.

"(Ward would) be a horrible zombie for us to deal with," said Steven Yeun, who plays Glenn on the show. "His head's like that much taller than ours, you'd have to aim up."

Even his former teammate admitted he wouldn't want to mix it up with Ward. "No, I don't want to cross his path," said Singleton. "I think he'll probably be the fastest zombie ever."

Ward put up with two hours in the makeup chair, but he received a personalized twist to his gruesome getup. His uniform number, 86, was painted on the back of his head, though it's not really visible to viewers.

This isn't Ward's first Hollywood experience. He won "Dancing With the Stars" in 2011, and is seen running from an exploding football field in this year's "Dark Knight Rises."

He's just as motivated in the show as on the football field. "Whoever turned me into a zombie, I'm taking it out on all the survivors that's left," Ward told NFL Films. "I'm in full attack mode."

Coming off of last weeks EPIC episode, there was just no way this weeks episode would be able to match it emotionally. That's not to say this was a bad episode, but by comparison it definitely felt very lite. But, they did give us something to talk about at the end. Actually, two things to talk about. First, Zombie Gladiator Sports. What the f*ck! But the thing that has me intrigued is the phone call to Rick. Now, I never watch any promo's for next weeks episode. I turn it off immediately and stay in the dark with no spoilers. So, for me, my guess is that it's Carol calling from another part of the Prison where she is "trapped" by a wave of Walkers and she was calling on the phone in the hopes somebody would pick up and rescue her. Just so happens to be Rick that answers the phone.

Yes, this is far-fetched. But I like to think this could play out exactly as I've laid it out before you.

That was the first thing I thought of. I thought it was pretty obvious with the blood drag marks down the hallway that it was her and then when Rick was debating whether or not to cut up the Walker's stomach was the drive it home to the viewer that it was Lori inside.

Not one of the better episodes this season to say the least. It was very uneven and for the most part....dull. Granted there were some cool moments and the episode did end on a nice cliffhanger with Michonne arriving at the Prison fence with the baby formula and of course a ton of Walkers on tow. But the pacing was just too slow with everyone in a holding pattern while Rick has an hour long phone conversation with Lori. The other thing that was testing my patience is Andrea. With each passing episode, she grows more annoying. I can't stand her and her stupidity.

And yes, I called it with Carol. It was kind of a no-brainer that she would be hiding out in a Cell, waiting to be found and rescued. I'm looking forward to the inevitable confrontation between Merle and Daryl. Bring it on!!

I think it was more about the guilt he was feeling regarding how he treated her since finding out about her and Shane. He never got to fix the relationship and tell her that he still loved her. So, he was basically having the talk that he wanted to eventually have. The phone was more for the viewer rather than having him babbling in an open room or having an inner monologue.

Boy, am I glad that wasn't the Mid-Season Finale. All day I had it in my head that this would be the last episode for 2 months. So, you can imagine my shock and glee when they started with the promo for next weeks episode. Yes, I had to change the channel fast as I didn't want any spoilers thrown my way.

As for this episode, this was another fantastic one that was basically carried by Glenn and Maggie as they go through different types of torture. Glenn was physical torture, while Maggie's was all mental with the threat of ****. I can't wait for the day the Governor gets his due. I hate the f*cker. But what I hate even more is Andrea's stupidity. I can't stand her and she is just dumb. I have it figured out (without having read anything beyond Volume 1) with regards to her. We are being led to believe that when she finds out what the Governor is all about that she will take a stand and fight her way out. Personally, I don't see it going down that road. I think she will actually accept and condone what he is and what he does.

Made to Suffer
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_04halfstar.gif)

The Gauntlet has been thrown down. There is no chance for any kind of reconciliation between both camps. It's kill or be killed. I thought this was a great mid-season finale. We got a new group of characters, but I don't see them lasting beyond the end of this season. As for Andrea, she once against proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that she is the DUMBEST character on the show. She sees the room full of Zombie heads (still alive and chomping. Nice touch), but Andrea still shows sympathy toward him. Why? You that hard up for dick that you will now accept anything, even if it is depraved?

My guess is that they are purposely making her out to be stupid so that she can be the one to redeem herself when she (hopefully) rescues Darryl. But having said that, I'm pretty sure this is a trap. I think the Governor hatched a plan with Merle to allow him and Darryl to escape so that Merle, once in the company of the others back in prison, can start to pick them apart from the inside out. This is gonna be a long 2 1/2 months before we get a new episode. Sigh.

AMC To Air Season One and Season Two Of “The Walking Dead” In Black and White!

Quote
Last July AMC ran an experiment in airing a black and white episode of the popular “The Walking Dead.”

It appear they’ll be taking it eight steps further next year with plans to air both Season One and Season Two in black and white, implies showrunner Glen Mazzara who tweeted the below photo from a “Walking Dead” fan mag. According to the mag, we can expect the fun to start February 2013.

The project is set among a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse who are led by a police officer, Rick Grimes, in search of a safe place to live.

This was a very frustrating episode to sit through. First off, the whole Daryl Vs. Merle showdown did not live up to what I thought would happen. It was over before you could blink. Second, I am beyond done with Andrea. I don't get how anyone would want to stay with the Governor, especially after he showed his true colors. She is dumb, dumb, dumb. The entire episode had me on edge because nothing was really happening, beyond the constant scream fest of who's boss. The ending though was interesting with Rick's meltdown at the sight of what looks to be the spirit of Lori. Anyway, kind of a lackluster episode for me, especially after such a long wait for the series to return.

Even though everything about this episode was predictable, it was still better than last week...at least for me anyway. And the last 5 minutes was definitely the best part of the entire hour. I was shocked that they killed off the dude that was talking to Carol, only because I had already planned out his demise long ago in which he would attack Carol and it would be Daryl coming to her rescue. Didn't quite work out that way huh? Well, he did come to the aide of Rick and just in the nick of time. One last thing, I can't stand Andrea. Wait, I keeo repeating that every episode. Ack!

the "dude" was Axel....and not Rose.

Rick would have killed Axl long ago!

hahahaha

do you watch the Talking Dead Chip?

I can't really do a full review, but I thought episode 2 rocked (from season 3) It can't all be pedal to the metal...I felt it was a good combo of story being moved forward, and some great action..come on Darrel and Myrle on the bridge wasn't cool too?

they **** some **** up.

I'd give this one 5 stars...I can't really fault any part of the show.

I never try and predict what I watch though either...I feel a little bad for people who go into shows of movies trying to "solve" the story or think ahead too much.

it's easier for me to dumb my brain down though, and I just have never tried to guess what is going to happen (of course I can sometimes tell) but I'd hardly call this episode predictable.

I thought it was COOL!~

I'm not even trying to guess where the show is going. What's the point in that? All that does is set up disappointment when things don't play out the way you'd hope. I may come up with creative scenarios for the show, but I never really expect any of it to bare fruit. That's why I'm never upset when it doesn't pan out as such.

No, I don't watch the Talking Dead. I skip it because I always fear that whatever guest is on is gonna let slip what is coming up the following week and you know how I am with spoilers.

I am super excited to see episode 3 of this season...going to be a LONG week waiting.

I have one theory as I type this...any idea?

I was and still am scratching my head on who it was and I didn't see any one snipe said person, so...still alive is my guess. I haven't gone back to watch the scene, but I remember thinking it was a chick. And no, it can't be Andrea, because that would be F*CKED UP to do them like that. But then again, she made a BIG show of wanting to know where the Governor was at and maybe releasing the Walkers would be her way of ending the firefight temporarily and get One-Eye Dildo Man back into town without any further bloodshed.

I kind of think it was a girl too...what's funky is they showed pretty clearly who stayed behind in Woodburry...so it's a tough call....for a split second when I type the above post, I almost thought it could have been the doctor...but that can't be right.....I don't think at least...Danna said he stayed behind because Andrea talked to him...I didn't remember that as much as the Governor going "would you take a bullet for me?"

Talking Dead was pretty good, but since its now an hour, it is really good. No spoilers at all, despite them trying to pry info out.

The host is great... The guests are great. And all the stuff between is all Walking Dead.

Check it out.

Kind of a "small" episode. By that I mean it was more talk, less walkers. With Andrea heading to the Prison to talk some sense into Rick and the gang, over in Woodberry, the arrival of the other group of people show up and will most likely meet their demise once they give the Governor the layout of the Prison. I knew that Andrea wouldn't go through with killing the Governor while he was sleeping. She's too much of idealist...or just dumb to see what he really is. Yeah, she is dumb. I've said that over and over and will continue to say that until proven otherwise. And lo and behold, Michonne speaks! A lot! You couldn't shut her up!!

For me, having Lennie James pop up made this episode great. I've literally been waiting 3 long years for the return of Morgan (Lennie James). It just sucks that he lost his kid as I wanted to see what him and boy would have been by now. Hardened. Well, he certainly is. I kinda knew that this would be a one episode only appearance given that he has obligations on his own show. But I am hopeful that he will return for the Season Finale and my guess is that he will play a pivotal role in saving Rick's ass when he goes up against the Governor.

The other thing that I really liked about this episode was the fact that it was just 4 characters for the entire hour and anytime I don't have to deal with watching Andrea be completely useless is a huge positive.

This isn't a bad episode by any stretch, but this isn't one that's going to be remembered down the road. More of a staring contest between Rick and the Governor as they size each other up, trying to get the upper hand and an unconditional surrender. Once again Andrea annoys the sh*t out of me. They way she strolls in, dictating that they settle their differences leads me to believe she actually thinks SHE's running the show. Ha. Right. Off with her head!

Maybe some truth to it. But lets not forget that it's just a cool concept and the most used genre for indie film makers to go to as well.

I get it. It does make sense. Let's see when economic times get better. We may then tire or look back and say WTF with the obsession with zombies. I take caution with the folks who take this stuff seriously. The zombie apocalypse folks, who think this could actually happen. I get very frustrated with people who are zealots. They lose their freakin' minds and their sense of sensibility.

Prey
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_04star.gif)

You wouldn't expect a show like TWD to play like a horror movie, which is exactly what Prey was. It's weird that the series itself, for me anyway, doesn't ever come off as something attached to the horror genre at all. It's all about survival. But this episode was basically Andrea being chased by the Governor and the tension kept ramping up. I knew that she would "make it" as far as the Prison Wall before being caught and I also knew that she would end up in the 'Chair'. But it was still a good solid hour. I've been waiting all season for her to get her head straight and rejoin her original group. Sadly, that's not gonna happen anytime soon now that she is being held hostage and no one in town knows her whereabouts.

As for the mystery person that burned all the Walkers, my money is on Morgan (Lennie James) as the pyromaniac.

I thought it was a given it was Milton who torched the biters. Especially that scene between them in the street.

I found the whole cat/mouse thing in the warehouse weak in this series. We've seen this kind of thing in a million shows. I guess because it was so predictable. Even the very end with the Governor popping out of nowhere before Andrea get to the edge of the prison.

Now the hostage thing will make step this up, I believe.

Only two episodes left.

What a fantastic episode. I have been waiting all season long for a Merle-heavy story line and this one sends him out on a high note. I knew that in the end that he would go through with handing Michonne over to the Governor and that he would take it upon himself to try and kill that damn bastard. Now it was a no-brainer that he wouldn't be successful in carrying out his deed, but I certainly didn't see the ending coming at all. I figured that the Governor would take him hostage and throw in the same cell with Andrea. It was a corker having Darryl see his brother is now a Walker and having to be the one to put him down. I can't wait for when Darryl drives an arrow through Governor's other eye....right into his brain.

'Walking Dead' bloodbath: -- will die in 'crazy' finale

Quote
Last October, as Glen Mazzara was readying himself for the premiere of the third season of AMC's hit drama "The Walking Dead" – his first full season at the helm of the show that chronicles the tribulations of the survivors of a zombie apocalypse – he was feeling pretty invincible. "I'm very happy," Mazzara told RS, after taking over for the series' creator, Frank Darabont, the year before. "Everybody is on the same page. I feel like a kid in a candy store." Two months later, Mazzara was out as showrunner, replaced by one of the lead writers, Scott Gimple. The parting wasn't particularly bitter, but surely, the midseason shuffling suggests a floundering show that has lost its way, right?

Not exactly. "The Walking Dead" continues to be a ratings juggernaut. It's the most watched basic-cable drama in history, and currently draws more 18-to-49-year-olds than any show on TV. Mazzara chalks up his departure to "creative differences," but it didn't seem to impact the series any more than his predecessor's considerably less amicable parting did the season before. It's as if "The Walking Dead" is much like the shambling undead hordes it documents: Sure, you can pick a few off, but as a whole, this is a relentless, unstoppable force.

As the show closes in on the season three finale, two camps of survivors – one in a prison led by Rick Grimes, a small-town cop; the other in a walled town ruled over by a sly sociopath known as the Governor – are seemingly on a path toward all-out war. "We have two ghettoized communities fighting for their lives," says David Morrissey, the actor who plays the Governor. "If only they could join forces, but egos are not allowing them to."

Grimes, who is played by the show's star, Andrew Lincoln, has spent the better part of the season going bat@!$%# crazy, chasing visions of his dead, adulterous wife. In recent weeks, though, he has emerged from his PTSD haze to guide a band of misfits through the challenges of end-times survival, a not entirely unwelcome development for Lincoln himself. "It's nice to be ass-kicking again," he says. "Rick is a leader. He needs to be in action, saving people."

According to Robert Kirkman, a writer and executive producer on the show, who also writes the graphic novels upon which it is based, the remainder of the season will continue at the breathless pace that it has built to so far. "The episodes are all about ramping up the conflict between the Governor and Rick," he says. "It's about finding out where allegiances lie. There are a few surprises in store as to who is going to be doing what on which side. Those reveals are going to be startling."

For the season finale, Lincoln promises, there will be blood. "Twenty-seven people die," he says. "It's safe to say it is all hands to pumps. It's a crazy season finale." It's a good bet that among those 27 casualties will be some central figures in the cast. Part of "The Walking Dead's" mojo is its willingness to dispatch even its most beloved characters. "The reality is nobody is safe," says Morrissey. "But that's the ticket we bought." Next season, Kirkman says, viewers should expect changes. "We're not going to slow things down, but if I had a criticism of season three, it would be that we didn't focus on character development," he says. "We're going to try to step it up a notch in that department." He points to "Clear," one of the most well-received episodes this year, which focused on a road trip by Grimes, his son, Carl, and the samurai-sword-wielding warrior Micchone, as a template for the coming shifts in tone: 'We're going to focus on fewer characters per episode." Not coincidentally, "Clear" was written by new showrunner Gimple. Lincoln has had some discussions about where his character will go from here, but as he puts it, "I can't disclose any of them because they will kill me."

"Nobody is safe," says Morrissey. "But that's the ticket we bought."

Comic book legend Stan Lee’s Youtube channel World of Heroes has just launched a new series called Cosplay Piano where they mash together music themes you may recognize from movies and television with a bit of cosplay. First up is the theme from AMC’s The Walking Dead, covered by the intensely talented pianist Sonya Belosouva, and a bit of Violin play by a zombiefied Eriko Tsuji before she gets tragically shot down.

Welcome to the Tombs
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_04halfstar.gif)

A very good season finale and one that I didn't know what would happen as it played out. For starters, I'm actually surprised that they killed Andrea off. At least they gave her a good way to go out. She has been by far the most frustrating character on the show to rally behind because of all her poor decisions. In the end, it's explained why she made those choices and it made sense. As annoying as she was at times, I was hopeful that she would redeem herself and get back on the right track. Poor Milton, I kinda figured that he would join up with Rick and the gang. Sadly, that didn't happen and he paid for his betrayal with his life.

But the most interesting thing about this episode was Carl morphing into a mini-governor. The thing is, everything he told his father, his reasons and rationale made perfect sense. I knew that it wouldn't sit well with him when the Woodbury people came to live in the prison. Season 4 should be a good season. Everything is set up as it needs to be. I hope it doesn't disappoint.

'Walking Dead' cut shocking season finale scene

Quote
It's been several months since "The Walking Dead" aired its gory season three finale, but they're pretty hard to forget. What fan doesn't have Milton and Andrea's torture room and the horrors that occurred there emblazoned in their brains?

But it could have been worse — much worse.

Dallas Roberts, who played Milton, told Entertainment Weekly that he and Laurie Holden (Andrea) were called back to do reshoots on those final scenes months after the season wrapped.

As the actor explained, while the beating that began the finale wasn't originally included, "There was a lot more of Milton trying to open the door and him trying to free her from the chains." He also said that Milton was going to try and choke her to death with the chains so after his death he wouldn't end up turning her into a walker. Roberts added that though that doesn't work, a scene where he's "taking chunks out of Laurie Holden" was also nixed.

Ech. In the revamp, it's not as though there was much spared in terms of high emotion and blood, but there was less overt ... chunk-taking. Instead, Tyreese (Chad Coleman), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Rick (Andrew Lincoln) were on hand to burst in and rescue — if not save — Andrea.

Coleman admired both versions of the scene. "(When) we kick in the door and finally we get to (Andrea) ... it was an incredibly powerful, excruciating scene.... I was there for the revision and that was incredibly powerful ... but for us, it was excruciating," he told EW.

"That scene was something else," Martin-Green told the magazine. "To come to someone and to find them in the most vulnerable moment of their life, it was hard. The scene, it had a serious depth to it."

EW reports that the original version of the finale won't appear on the show's season three DVD/Blu-ray set out Aug. 27.

I'm okay with the finale cut of the scene. Any more than that would have been a bit too much.
