It's Heavy Metal Day (11.11.11) over at VH1 Classic and I thought that it would be cool to kick it off with what many consider to be the Godfathers of Metal. This is the full 2007 Reunion Concert in it's entiriety. I've seen this a couple of times and it's really good. It sounds and looks pretty damn good. Better than I would have expected it to be given that this is a bootleg copy. Don't forget to check out Metal Evolution (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/music/metal-evolution-(season-1)/) tonight as well. Enjoy.

Led Zeppelin 2007 Reunion Concert

Like I said before, this is a pretty good concert given that it's not a professional, high quality production DVD released to the masses. It looks and sounds great for what it is. I actually like that it's bare-bone's, same "stationary shot" with the zoom's In and Out. It adds to that concert-going experience that I'm always complaining about that other DVD's tend to take me out of due to their over indulgent editing. Also adding to the charm is that this is a rare, once off reuion that the public, outside of those in the Arena, were not meant to see. So, consider yourself lucky.

Also, it's a great set list and will have your share of favorite Zep songs to keep you entertained.

Kennedy Center Honors 2012 - Led Zeppelin
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_04halfstar.gif)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ta0gDfGb9u0

Set List

Foo Fighters - Rock And Roll
Kid Rock - Ramble On
Lenny Kravitz - Whole Lotta Love
Ann & Nancy Wilson with Jason Bonham - Stairway To Heaven

My God, this was good! Just like the All-Star performance celebrating The Beatles (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/the-concert-venue/the-beatles-live/msg11813/#msg11813), this delivered in SPADES when it came to Lenny belting out Whole Lotta Love. But it was Heart's performance of Stairway To Heaven that was truly epic. This gave me chills and my eyes started to well up. Truly a great performance. Getting Jason on the kit for the song was an inspired one at that. He may not be the original drummer, but I've always considered him to be a member of the band and just as important in getting us those rare Reunion concerts every 15 years. If he wasn't there, we would have gotten nothing since the break up. Think about that for a while......

Great job by Jack Black introducing Led Zep and the Short Mini-Documentary on the band was hair-raising good. Gotta watch this again. Now. See ya!! Overall, I give the All-Star performance 4 1/2 Stars. But Ann, Nancy and Jason get 10 Stars!!!!!

I thought so too...the Ramble on was a little shaky with Kid Rock, and Taylor I think was a little better singing at Wembly....but hell yeah this was goooooood stuff.

Lenny rocked it as did Heart.  super fun to see and it was very interesting how choked up Plant got because he's been the MOST openly reluctant about getting back together with Zeppelin...so it was very interesting to see how moved he was.

I think he's more shy now....and it's just very tough for him to fully accept Zeppelin...he said himself, it's HUGE responsibility to go back....

I really wish we'd get one more Zeppelin studio album...I think it would be GREAT/.

I am still hoping.....I wouldn't even care if they toured to be honest....one record on their terms....it probably won't happen but I'd love for it to occur!

We talked about this before and how one last record would be epic and how it would never happen. But that was then, this is now. Who knows what will happen after that performance and how choked up he got. This could be the thing that finally pushes him to do one last record with Zep realizing the impact that the band had/has on generations of people all over the world. Sure, he knew they were BIG, but I don't think it's ever been thrown in his face like it was last night to where the emotions finally got the better of him.

One.

More.

Album.

I don't think this is the last of them. Something BIG is coming............

I think a tour maybe freaks him out because he knows it's like...they have to play this song and that song...where would that leave the new material....the older material is much harder for him to sing in some cases, the vocals aren't as "good"

he also had issues with how long the instrumental sections are (now) because he's not this young kid who'll stand on stage stoned and looking all sexy.

so as a 65 year old man....it's hard for him to relate to those parts of Zeppelin.

But again a new studio album can redefine a part of that...which is probably also a bit scary/

or not.

I am not sure.

I would love love love a new album...I mean...LOVE it

:)

I still think a Tour isn't completely out of the question. Just do a limited run of all the major markets in the US. Do a few in New York, Boston, Chicago, LA and then 10 shows here in SD....Concert at Kate Sessions! Walking distance!!!!

I think an album is too. In the most recent interviews with the band and individual, all said it will mostly likely not happen. None of them are interested.

Never say never.

Your comments about Heart shot back some memories. Not sure if you knew, but in the early days Heart, they were known as the Little Led Zeppelin. I got to see Heart right before they became big. Never heard of them and they opened the evening's concert list. Two Women rockers opened a lot of eyes. Because of so little material in the beginning, they peppered their concert with Zep tunes and just brought down the house.

and Ann could really wail back then....not that she can't now...but everyone loses a little of their range and edge as they get a little older.

too bad there isn't video...although with youtube...you never know what old gems are out there

!

Chip and I have talked about this quite a bit but the new KISS album is fantastic.  I've not really been too huge on anything past the original line ups records...although over the years I've warmed up to a few...

But MONSTER really showed what a great band can do at any time of their career.

I can't imagine what Page has building in him after all these years...it might be a fantastic bookend on their career....one album to show the close of an amazing career.  It adds an interesting perspective.

They were influenced by old blues guys....now they have that life perspective to approach an album not as a stoned 23 year old...but a mature 65 year old man who's seen the world.

to me it would be fascinating

:)

I think therein lies what's really at the heart of Robert Plant's reluctance. Should they make a new Zep album, that's 30 + years in the making and expectations would be set far too high to meet. He may feel like that he, Page, Jones and Jason will have to make the most perfect album ever created and doesn't want to "tarnish" the legacy if there is any sort of "let down". This is all speculation on my part of course, but that is a legitimate roadblock Plant could be facing.

As you said with regards to KISS' Monster album, you can still pull out a classic album when least expected, which is exactly what they did.

FYI, Ann and Nancy's version of Stairway To Heaven has been playing on a loop in my head all day today. I can't shake it.

I would be surprised if Plant or Page would worry about tarnishing the Zep image, or expectations for a monumental album. I think they are so comfortable in their years, all the other things have more impact on them. They've done everything and experienced it all. I would think they would want to get together because it was fun. But I can only imagine it would not.

By the time you do get Celebration Day, Led Zep will have already reformed for another show, shoot it and released to a new video format where they embed the mirco chip directly into your brain for immediate 24 / 7 access.

Whoa, someone is watching too much sci-fi lately

But your probably right.

Just think how many different formats Led Zep IV has been on over the years...

hahahaha

yeah I am in a bit of a hold pattern for shopping right now...because of my schedule and how I am trying to work this year...I have to spend a lot up front for travel and accommodations

so I am dropping money for plane tickets and hotels left and right, currently...but the hope is the appearances get me work, etc.

instead of getting back on the work treadmill, trying to be more creative with how I work....my friend would always tell me work smarter, not harder.

so here's to trying!
