Blade Runner. Often imitated, never duplicated. I felt it time to bust this one out and take it off the shelf in honor of Ridley Scott and his new move about an E.T. or something. What does one say about Blade Runner that hasn't been said before? The movie just kicks so much ass and not for reasons that you may think. Yes, it looks gorgeous, seeing what a future Los Angeles could be like. No, what I take away from this movie is how subtle it all is. From the way the film is shot to editing to the characters actions and even the way they talk. Coming from over-the-top flicks that have tons of things going on at once, this one is the antithesis and why I think it's such a great film.

I'm always amazed at what Sean Young brought to her role of Rachael. So smooth and cool. She was the classic beauty that you couldn't take your eyes off of. Even the way she delivered her lines was bone chilling impressive for me. Still is. It's just a shame what happened to her afterwards and that whole Catwoman nightmare. Edward James Olmos as Gaff is just so badass. He looks so f ucking cool to say the least. Rutger Hauer is awesome too. Harrison Ford? Meh. They should have went with Dustin Hoffman (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/new_tongue.gif)

I highly recommend Blade Runner and it's a definite Buy. Now, about this new "E.T." movie coming out.........

Dangerous Days: Making Blade Runner

Just as good as the movie, if not better is the Making-Of. This one has it all from idea to completion and it's legacy. Everyone involved in the making of Blade Runner is here. The lone exception is Brion James who passed away long before they made the documentary. You definitely have to watched this right after you watch the movie. It's worth it and one of the best docs out there.

I definitely fall into the camp of those who did not like this movie. I've tried about a half a dozen times to sit through the whole thing. From the time it became available for home viewing to recently. I can't. Don't know exactly what it is, but it's definitely not catching my attention.

Dude, I actually see where you're coming from on your perspective and I think a lot of it had to do with the subtly of the film. It's not what I would call a whizzbang Sci-fi movie like some of the others that you and I are fond of. It's best to describe Blade Runner as a Noir film set in the future with special FX. I do think it's an acquired taste for sure. Personally, I like the undertones of Blade Runner are the best elements of it.

I find this extremely hard to watch

Blade Runner Aquarelle Edition, Part 1 (Teaser)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiPNMTKgn0Q

Quote
More than 3,000 watercolor drawings were combined to produce this stunning animation, an exacting, frame-by-frame re-creation of an early sequence from Blade Runner.

The transfixing 13-minute tribute, created by Swedish artist Anders Ramsell, uses 3,285 images drawn using watercolor pencils. The technique, known as aquarelle, creates gauzy images that look practically transparent on paper.

Ramsell paired original audio from Blade Runner with his ethereal visuals. The impressionistic effect is enhanced by the low-fi quality of YouTube, which makes the animation seem even hazier. The end result is hypnotic, and slightly disorienting — Blade Runner’s dystopian, futuristic cityscapes melt into a dreamlike fantasy in pastel colors.

That isn’t to say that Ramsell’s fanciful watercolor depictions aren’t dark. In Ramsell’s video (above), he masterfully illustrates Holden’s interrogation of Leon using the Voight-Kampff test (see the original scene below). When Leon shoots Holden, revealing himself as a replicant, we see the gunshot frame by frame, and the screen suddenly turns black.

Ramsell has plans to re-create the entire movie using this technique, which may take several years. We eagerly await the results.
