Thor was a good, if not great Superhero movie. It's certainly a step up from Captain America (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/captain-america-the-first-avenger-(2011)/msg7962/#msg7962), which still leaves a bad taste in my mouth a day later. At least with this one, Director Kenneth Branagh gave us something to dazzle us with when it came to the Set Pieces. The first one with the Frost Giants was very cool, if a bit short. My only real problem with Thor was in the casting of Jane, played by Natalie Portman. She brought absolutely nothing to the role. But to be fair to her, no one could have done anything with that character. Period. It was underwritten and I wasn't particularly fond of her hamminess in some of her line delivery. I could do nothing but roll my eyes at her.
Still, the film looks gorgeous and the special FX is kick ass. I just wish that more time had been given to Thor's band or misfits. It would have made for a far more interesting story instead of relying solely on the "Cain and Abel" angle of one brother's jealously of another, which made the plot predictable. I still liked it enough to give it 4 Stars. I recommend this as a Rent at best.
