Yngwie Malmsteen - Echo Etude

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvxPui7s4so

I'm going to forego the typical Yngwie shred-fest and go with this, my personal favorite piece he's ever done and something I find to be more original and creative instead of the million-notes-per-minute playing he is known for. He makes his playing in Echo Etude sound like a freaking orchestra for cying out loud!!!

Eddie Van Halen - Catherine

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwHQyechNm0&feature=player_embedded#!

I just came across this tonight. I have no idea when it came out or how new (old) it is. All I can think of after watching it....it's...something. I hated it when it started. And when the drums finally kicked in, I hated the sound of the drums. But then by the end of it..I kinda liked it....but not really. I dunno. I'm confused. I need a drink.

It's not horrible, but it's not something I'd listen to that much. It's much more complex and layered than typical rock band stuff unless you start talking about more progressive groups like 'Live'. Even Trans Siberian with the orchestration there. Hell, the boys have had plenty of time off to venture into new directions. Let's see what they bring us.

I like it a bit more the 2nd time around, but I do still think that the drum sound is a bit off. Or maybe I'm just hearing it differently.

Hey Umaine, have you checked out any of That Metal Show (Season 8.) (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/music/that-metal-show-(season-8)/) this season? Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore and a host of others have been the Special Guest Guitarist for specific episodes. Tony out of all of them has been on fire this season. Billy Sheehan has also popped up a couple of times too.

not a guitar god....but this demo is pretty interesting and the guy can play VERY well.

even I found it a little weird seeing a guy play this type of material (at first it's kind of blues based...but then he moves into Yngwie and Paul Gilbert kind of stuff...) on a Les Paul...but he can play for sure.....hence his addition here..

Watching that clip, it felt like I was at the NAMM show. You know what I mean? There's no backing band or music to solo over, so you just riff and play off the cuff stuff. THAT's the NAMM show in a nutshell.....all.......day......looooooooooooong. I miss it. For sure than guy can rip.

a lot of this stuff reminds me of Guitar Center (not literally like a moment I had there)

but I remember back when I was in bands...I always hated show offs...there's nothing wrong with being a great player and showing that.

but sometimes....it's like this struggle these guys have....they don't play in bands and don't write music or actually entertain anyone....it's just like shredfest.

not that there's anything wrong with that...but I think I like more "players" who can actually play...but write great music and have some originality.

that all comes with time...but guitar playing is an extension of you.....so these guys miss the mark by a million miles...because they never learn to sound like themselves.

my two bits...

back to watching guitar clips and organizing crap for that comic con

:)

Craig Chaquico (http://craigchaquico.com/)

Listening to his website sounds very familiar.... hmmmmm, who might that sound like?

Formerly of Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship and Starship, now on his own.

I've liked JS in pretty much all their evolving genres, but the song Save Your Love is just killer showmanship and let's him really spread his wings. If you want to get to the good stuff, about 2/3 of the way in.

Just an amazing guitarist. Highly underrated.

Looks like he's leaning more towards smooth Jazz. Some of that s hit it awesome. Some of it, yea most of it, not so much.

I've seen them twice and just loved the no-nonsense just good singing and playing concert. Grace Slick is one of my favorite female singers.

I'm going to check out Craig Chaquico's solo stuff. See if that does anything for me.

it's tough to be so young and do something so well....I mean to be a young adult  or 17-19 years of age and actually have something of INTEREST to offer the world is totally different than have the dexterity to play a guitar at 8 or 9 years old....once you hit late teens/early twenties ..it's what do you have to offer that people will want to listen to...a lot of people can play very well.

Earl Slick and Lee Rocker - Men Without Shame

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIsbPxkBW-M&feature=related

Back in the day, there was this side project for Lee Rocker and Jim Phantom called Phantom, Rocker and Slick. I was already a fan of the Stray Cats but I  was very curious who this 'Earl Slick' was. I kinda knew he had played with David Bowie, but I never really went any further than that. So, when their first single and video dropped, I was  f u c k i n g  blown away and had found a new Guitar God to worship. Earl's style of playing had more balls than anything that I had heard of in a while at that time. And holy crap, the  f u c k i n g  tone this guy had on the album was  f u c k i n g  off the hook ridiculous. I wonder if it has anything to do with the Orange Pre-Amp. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/HTL_wink.gif) So tasty it should be illegal in all states.

I couldn't find the original video, but this video of 2/3 of the band is just phenomenal. Listen to Earl tear it up. His playing is still stellar. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/headbanginggenesimmons.gif)

George Thorogood & Albert Collins (Live Aid - 1985)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isTXK7sQm24&feature=related

George is one bad ass motherf*cker! I looooooooove his playing. His style is what I like to call "controlled chaos". It always seem to going a million miles an hour, but it's going somewhere very cool. Sure, lots of people can play fast, but they can't always play memorable licks without it sounding repetitive and redundant. And lets not forget Albert Collins. This dude can smoke anyone. I remember watching this live that day and was blown away by their performance. Funny story, when Collins came out on stage, I was like "what the f*ck is he doing with his guitar strap? It's on the wrong shoulder"! I had never seen any other guitar player before do that. So naturally I tried it myself....with disastrous results. I tried doing the 'windmill' ala Pete Townsend and my guitar went through the wall. BAM!!!! Hahaha. I'm coming back around to one of my early fav heavy metal bands Budgie that consisted of Burke Shelley on vocals and bass, Tony Bourge on guitar and vocals, and Ray Phillips on drums. A lot of comparisons were made to Rush because of the 3 man powerhouse and Burke Shelley's high pitched voice.

Tony Bourge had and enormous influence on some of the current heavy metal artists in the last couple of decades. Below is Parents which showcases his skills in rock, blues and ballads. This video is of Tredegar, a group Tony formed after leaving Budgie. But Parents is a Budgie classic.

Tony has since retired from music...

A total of 17 songs, including one instrumental, were laid down for the follow-up to 2012's "Apocalyptic Love" with producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette (ALTER BRIDGE, FALLING IN REVERSE, INCUBUS).

The cover artwork for the "World On Fire" album was designed by American contemporary artist Ron English.

Slash told Music Radar about the new CD, "I wrote the majority of the music when I was on the 'Apocalyptic Love' tour. You know, just sitting around in dressing rooms and hotel rooms for a year, I accumulated all these ideas. Then in September [2013] I sat down and went through everything I'd recorded on my voice memo on my phone and picked out about 20 different ideas then we went into pre-production in October and just started jamming. We were there for a couple of months, holed up in Mates rehearsal studio in Los Angeles. There was the whole writing process then once we had all the songs down we rehearsed the **** out of it, and then we brought the producer, Mike Baskette, in. And so we went through another phase of fine tooth-combing everything and getting the arrangements together. Myles came down and started working on his vocal parts… and by the time we were done with all that we were ready to go in and just bang the stuff out. It was a very quick process in the studio."

He continued: "The one thing about this record is that it was almost like it wrote itself, it was very effortless. And that happens very rarely, when there's a certain energy that carries the creative process and it's almost like you're not in control of it and you just ride that wave. That's how this record was. I can't think of any outside influence other than just going with this creative flow."

Slash released his first self-titled solo effort in 2010.

The legendary guitarist employed a different vocalist on each track of his first album, before settling on ALTER BRIDGE member Kennedy for both touring and eventually recording.

"Apocalyptic Love" earned Slash his two first-ever No. 1 U.S. rock radio hits with "You're A Lie" and "Standing In The Sun". The record's third single, "Anastasia", **** the Top 10 at both Modern and Active Rock.

Slash and AEROSMITH have teamed up for a U.S. tour this summer.

Myles is an incredible singer and a great replacement for Axl. It affords Slash the option of having someone that can recreate Axl's sound live and also sing his own stuff in his own unique personal style.

Rig Rundown - Steve Stevens

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vk2Fk9TdKWY

Oh Lordy! Everything that is in the video, I want for Christmas!!! Gimme!!!! Steve breaks down his entire rig and the guitars he tours with. Heck man, he even talks about the Ray Gun myth that has been following him since Rebel Yell and it's cool to see him do a demonstration of it. Not sure if that was the same Bob Bradshaw rig he was messing with near the end of the video. It looks pretty similar to what he had back in the mid 80's. I don't think it would be able to survive that long. He may have had someone build him another using the same specs as before. Don;t quote me on that. As I remember it, the original was black and the one on stage was bluish, but that could be the sun giving it that look.

Oh snap! One Million Dollars for the Diamond-encrusted Fender Strat! Sheesh! I'm surprised they would even allow that out on the floor. I wouldn't! The 24 String Bass is NUTS! I like that auto tuner. It was trippy to see it tuning itself like that and the fact that it has all different tuning's makes this a must-have for me.

Okay, I'm looking to get a Les Paul. Gonna go with Epiphone because I just can't justify getting Gibson right now that would break the bank. Besides, I just want a nice guitar as a weekend warrior as I'm not a professional. So, Epiphone it is. These are the finishes that I'm looking at. I want your input which one you like the best. Doesn't matter if you play guitar or not. Just want to see what you guys think is the best and why. I won't tell you mine until I've heard your choices so as not to influence you in anyway.

Without a doubt, my favorite of the bunch is the Alpine White. I'm actually in the same mode as you looking at kits. I've just seen kits on stage with the white or pearl white and when lights hit it, it just looks awesome. Seriously, that's my only push towards that finish.

My old guitarist has something similar to the Desert Burst, and I was very impressed how it looked.

I'm a weekend warrior of woodworking and love an amazing grain showing.

this has got to be exciting... right?

I would love to pick up a guitar and mess around with it. I played acoustic years ago, but just put it down. I would love to have something available to just pick up.

Our town has one of the premiere Vintage Guitar stores in the world. Killer Vintage (http://killervintage.com/). The owner is one of the top few people in the world that knows guitar worth. Apparently just about any act that comes into town, goes to see his shop to see what's available. I went in there a few weekends ago. It's a hole in the wall shop, but it has some very cool stuff.

It's very exciting! I've never owned a Les Paul. I've always been in the Strat or Ibanez camp, but that has never stopped me from lusting after an LP. I thought it was going to be easy to grab an Epi LP due to the fact that they are affordable. But having looked at a few YouTube reviews, and read plenty more. It obviously comes down to finishes, style and of course the electronics. Been watching a ton of auctions on eBay to see what the averages are for each of the above models I've narrowed it down to.

The review is about 2 years old, but everything with this line has the same guts. The Coil-Tapping is a big plus for me as it offers you even more tones by splitting the pickups. Sounds great with the ProBuckers.

How to Avoid Sucking as a Self-Taught Guitarist (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/lessons/correct_practice/how_to_avoid_sucking_as_a_self-taught_guitarist.html)

What a great read. Anyone that has ever struggled with learning how to play guitar as a kid...or even as an adult will surely relate to what this guy went through. I certainly can relate. Sh*t, reading the article was eerily similar to what I went through back in High School. I got stuck in a time period where I 'had' to learn all the flashy techniques of the day. But doing that came at the expense of the songs. It wasn't until years later I dumped that idea of "being the fastest" and turning my forcus toward songs. Check out the article as it applies to any instrument.

Joe Satriani Private Lesson "Official"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXk4gxcjVr8

So, this video popped up in my YouTube Recommendation feed. Never seen or heard it before. Video I think is a year old. Anyway, this Private Lesson was the grand prize for one lucky fan to get a one on one lesson from the man himself. My first thought was this guy is going to be a complete novice. WRONG! This guy can f*cking play. When Joe ask him to play something so that he would have an idea of what to teach him in the lesson, I was expecting some riffs or some scales. What I wasn't expecting was to hear him tear into a note-for-note version of Satch Boogie. I was like "this guy doesn't need any lessons"!!!! Actually he kinda did because Joe was able to point out some "flaws" and it was actually sound advice. It would make him a better player. The rest of the lesson was very good and informative. More about how to train both your ear and your brain through chords rather than learning a set of scales and what not. I like how they closed out the video with both jamming to Joe's epic Rubina song. I take my hat off to the guy that got the lesson. I would have been fumbling, sweating and just in a panic attack having to play in front of Joe like that.

Well, 3 days ago I finally found a sweet deal on eBay and I pulled the trigger on nabbing me an Honeyburst Epiphone Les Paul. It was Brand New and I managed to talk the guy down to selling it to me for more than half the price with free shipping. It just arrived today. It looks amazing. The pic used in the auction doesn't do the veneer justice. Gonna put it through it's paces later tonight when I get my work done. Can't wait. I did a once over inspection and it is New for sure. Just down to guts and action now. I will snap a few pics and post later.

Do you know how to play?

My sister has a couple, I think I mentioned, and I gave her a couple guitar songbooks last year.  Popular songs, real rock hits, you know?  I don't think she's picked up either once.  I'm garbage with musical instruments (I think all that time drawing ruined me for having two hands doing independent, coordinated things) but I wanna try, if she's not gonna bother, lemme borrow one!

Yeah, I've been playing since Jr. High which is where I had my first Guitar Class. A while back (15 years ago or so), I had to sell a lot of my equipment as I needed cash. The only ones I kept (because I couldn't sell) were a couple of beat up pieces of sh*t that no one would want, let alone pay for. Since I've gotten back into playing in a big way, it was time that I treated myself to a nice guitar, more specifically a Les Paul as I've never owned one before. As you know, I have a thread devoted specifically to Rocksmith (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/video-games/rocksmith/msg1686/#msg1686) which went a long way to getting me to reconnect with playing again. If you have a guitar on hand, definitely pick up a used copy of the "game" on eBay. This is essentially a guitar teaching teacher right in your own home and cheaper too! If you pick up the game, make sure you're getting one that comes with the cable as you will need it to plug your guitar into your PC.

Here's a quick shot of my new guitar. The images don't do it justice. Using a pocket camera and the flash pretty much washes out the grain and the Reds are not as Red IRL. It's a more subdued Brownish-Red, which is what I was going for. I still need to get a Hardshell case. I will take more pics using a better camera with natural lighting down the road and hopefully I can replicate the actual look with future pictures.

Here's an update. I originally sought out eBay looking for a Hardshell case, but the average cost, no matter who the seller was, was around $130. I'm not spending that kind of money on a f*cking case!!! Long story short is that when I took my Bass down to the local Music Store to fix a buzzing sound, I asked them if they had any Hardshell cases for Les Paul's and sure enough, they did. $50 out the door. Major score! Suck it eBay!!!

I'm currently looking to get another guitar or two, but they are pricey as f*ck and most likely will never come about. I'd like to get an Ibanez Iceman **** Mirror Top, but the sticker prices rangers anywhere from $3k to $15k. So, yeah. I can just dream on that one for the time being. I find it very cool to watch an artist of Steve's caliber to watch old VHS Tapes of himself playing in his High School Band, before they were even known to anyone. Disregard the cheesy lyrics (and the singer of course) and just dive right into the guitar solo. Some good sh*t. I love how they went with a worldview of players from all around the world. This kid makes me want to vomit and seriously consider quitting guitar all together. He is ridiculously that damn good. The only other player I can think of that finger picks that good is Jeff Beck. Guitar picks are sooooooooooo over!  ;)

Sigh.

Chip, prodigies dot all aspects of talent. We have 'em in the drumming world as well.

I get your distaste. I too have viewed these prodigies with prejudice. Over time, I have adopted a different perspective of inspiration. I've always viewed much older folks than me, that have great talent... and continue to perform as inspiration for me. If they can do it... why can't I? I look at child prodigies a little different, but they no longer **** me off. It's more a challenge for me now.

Secondly, the way this kid plays immediately reminded me of Toy Caldwell. Writer, guitarist, singer for The Marshall Tucker Band. His playing was soooooo unique, that they did have a signature sound. Like Bonomassa, Caldwell was all soul. Beautiful playing.

I wasn't knocking the kid. It was more about shining a light on the fact that I should have taken it serious when I was that young. I got my first guitar when I was in elementary school and didn't do much with it except learn a few chords. It wasn't until Jr. High School that I really put in serious effort on my part. This kid is definitely an inspiration.

Same here... I dabbled in music a little in high school and beyond, and since then have wished I did a whole lot more.

And the converse, my son excelled in marching band and orchestra learning Sax and trumpet. That suddenly came to a halt with college. Such a shame. He was good with no where to go but up. Instead College life completely shut out his music direction along with video games.

This is fantastic. I loved that they showed that she was terrified of playing in front of Jason. This just adds to the authenticity of the moment. This just goes to show that even someone as accomplished as she is, has too deal with moments of doubt. She nailed it.

Steve Vai - The Making of Woody

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wyKqZeMdUI

This is without a doubt the best and certainly the most entertaining Guitar Build video ever.

Steve Vai - "30 years of the Ibanez JEM"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gjf_e6h0dtY

This video is dope. This is just another prime example why I love Steve's YouTube Channel. His videos are just more than the standard "look at me shred" puff pieces. As for the JEM, I've always wanted one for myself and came pretty close to pulling the trigger on the Floral JEM and the Multi-Color JEM. But they were so damn expensive back in the late 80's, early 90's that I just couldn't justify that kind of price.

Steve Vai and Russian Guitarists - Flash Mob Live 2016, Moscow

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRurCKVDTEU

I'm trying to recall if I have ever seen that many guitar players on one stage before. The only thing I can think of is AC/DC (Who Made Who) and Ace Frehley (Rock Soldiers), but those were music videos. This is something different all together. It wouldn't surprise me one bit that none of them were actually plugged in. Having watched it a second time, I don't think they are because A), that's a lot of noise to control and they can't be so perfectly in sync to make it sound as "clean" as it is and B) at the end of the song when Steve is saying his "thank you" to the crowd, a bunch of the guitar players in the back are still strumming and yet.....no sound. I think it was more like a music video after all. Haha. Hey, at least that were on stage with Vai. That's more than most people get.

Nice find on the Ernie Ball String Theory for Paul and Steve. Haven't seen those yet. Will watch them on Big TV. As for the Rig Rundown, I watched this maybe 6 months ago and found it to be one of the more enjoyable Rundowns they have done. I'm just glad they didn't have John Bohlinger hosting this. I always groan whenever he does the "interview". He's just pailful to watch and comes across very unprepared because his questions are so generic and lame. He's always in geek mode and tends to ask questions you would get from a 15 year girl about to faint at the sight of (INSERT CURRENT BOY BAND IDOL OF THE WEEK HERE). Doesn't make for a good video IMO. But Steve's rundown is great for sure.

I am guessing it's the guy from No Doubt?  The band kind of got shafted...sort of the worst scenario nightmare came true which was Gwen ultimately being whisked away into her own fame and fortune leaving the band
a bit high and dry.

sucks but I am sure that was a concern for a LONG time with the band...they'd even addressed it in their videos.

This dropped about half an hour ago and it's easily the best String Theory Segment yet. Prior to watching this, I always thought it was odd that we have never really gotten anything like this where it focuses on Paul's rhythm playing to the extent we get here. But seeing it now, it just blows my mind that it took 40 years to get this. LOVE IT! This just makes me want to pick up the guitar and rock out. If you don't know the name Audrey Shida, you should. She learned how to play guitar simply by playing Rocksmith. Check out here killer rendition of Cult Of Personality....note for note. So damn good. The singer they have here is pretty damn good too. He nails on the vocal ticks and inflections of Corey Glover to a T.

More awesomeness with Steve and Nikki. I just wished that Steve played nothing but Zep Riffs for half an hour though, as it's not something we get to see him do on a regular basis.

yeah that perfect pedal order is an hour long video and Steve Vai talking about any part of guitar playing is always interesting, amazing, and insightful
so it will inspire you even if you aren't currently pondering "what order should my pedals be?"

which I wasn't except in a fantasy world of being a super awesome guitarist

I'm kinda the same way with Joe. Not someone that I gravitate toward to when I'm in the listening mood for some guitar mastery.

As for Nikki, I met him years ago (along with Tommy) at NAMM and the one thing that struck me and has stayed with me all these years later was just how humble and gracious he was to take the time to talk to me. He really is an unassuming person. Tommy was pretty cool as well.

Yeah, I literally watched this last night within 5 minutes of it being dropped (I subscribed to his channel about 6 months ago). He has a lot of great and very useful tutorials. Check out the one on Chunking which by itself makes you change your perception of how to physically play 'faster'. It was and is any eye opener. I liked this updated version of Bark at the Moon. It's cool that he too saw the new Jake E Lee "tutorial" video that I watched last week or so. I wasn't expecting to get this new Tute last night

Bald guys rule!!

I've been working my right hand and really getting much better at rhythm.  It's always been a hugely neglected part of my practice.  No clue why??

At some point I'll have to blend it back in with my left hand again which is going to be a bizach.  But I am for sure a better player for working with my right hand the last few weeks!

I recognize him.  No clue what band he was in.  Trying to think. ....lemme see.

Sort of a silly comment anyway.

I don't really hear Ed say specifically he did it first.  He says he made it up...which is different.  He worked the technique out without seeing other players doing it.  Which is possible.

Steve Vai || Guitar Lesson "Hot Licks"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Tz2BETx5A

I've never seen this particular video before and that's the cool thing about checking out Young Guitar clips. Before there was even a thing called YouTube, in order to get this content, you had to pay a pretty big price tag for the magazine. As I remember it, it would fluctuated from around 15 bucks to 25 bucks depending on how much stuff they were packing into it. The only place that I knew of where you could buy the mag was a Tower Records. I just wasn't willing to pay that kind of money for a magazine when I was already buying every issue of Guitar For The Practicing Musician at a fraction of the cost. So, all these years later, I finally get to see what I was missing from those mags I passed on.

Sick!!!  I've not seen that Steve Vai clip but I did actually watch the Yngwie playing the non scalloped fret board a few days back.  I was downloading like a hundred Yngwie videos just to make sure I had all the ones that are currently up.

Its a sickness i assure you

Lolol

I think it goes back to the VHS days or even is Beta you know stuff would  pop on TV and you had to save it because you never knew if you would be able to watch it again, and some of those are the best memories ever.

I remember when I was little my mom made me miss the last half of Kiss Meets the Phantom. Because Love Boat was on. Do you know how many years I had to fuking wait to see the end of that movie? It might have been a decade.  Haha!!

well

again what can they write...it's not the guitar Olympics although at times online it seems that way

you know what I mean.

Not hating they are both bad ass...but I'd like to hear 4 or 5 songs...even if they are like shred songs, or guitar olympic style jams etc...that's the thing
give me some original material that's good...that's the big hurdle I think for most of these folks...

but you know...it's like more about getting a million followers or tons of likes and monetizing your videos...

so what do I know

:)

I like it when I can find vids that have half concert and half audience because I find it fascinating to watch the audiences and their reactions to what is going on on stage. I even find the actions of the bartenders in the background interesting. They go about their jobs while Yngwie is shredding as if it wasn't happening.

Rabea is getting really good and tasty.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1o2cHT15Ho

it really shows how your own personal taste ultimately makes you a compelling player...many get the chops
but don't bring great melody and great story telling into their playing...you can really hear him doing that more
and more...he might be one of the best "young guns" out there...or heading that route at the very least.

and one more because I like you

Not a fan of George Lynch's playing honestly. It never connected with me.  I've tried to get into his stuff a bunch of times and it's never really happened.  I haven't listened to this clip yet because I'm down at Starbucks but is he really upset or is that like a title?  Like a song or something.

He's too tan to play guitar.  All that coconut oil on his skin makes the neck all slippery.  He seriously the George Hamilton of guitarists!!!

Speaking of Guitar Gods. Yesterday I was looking for a photo of my guitars that I had taken when I was about 19 years old in the living room so I was just searching for words like Strat, guitar Etc on my external hard drives..and that photo of you came up that you had sent me from The NAMM Show with you playing the Satriani guitar!!!  So awesome.  You look like you're ready for the big stage!!

Man, I really wish I was I had that Satch guitar. Given the fact that many years have passed since then and they never released them to the public (which I know of never happening)...just makes me want that guitar even more!

As for George....he is p*ssed at the sound guy. From what I could get from the audio and lip reading, the sound guy didn't hook up his rig to the monitor. Anyway, yeah....don't mess with George Hamilton at NAMM!!!

and trust me.  I know and can tell Lynch is very very talented...so I am not hating...for whatever reason I just don't find his playing interesting
past his dexterity.  I got to when he started finger tapping and about 40 seconds into that part I was like...'eh....I am just not with him.'

The Akira clip is kinda cool....4K is nice and crisp~!!

time machine...gimmie that guitar back

I've had Rush mania the last week.  I must have downloaded 50 videos.

There's a series of rockline interviews a guy has been uploading...long and fun listens.

Alex is one of those guitarists you might argue (although Rush is very popular and has had an amazing career)

but he is sort of "under rated" and a lot of times not mentioned...that said he's done well and is always a treat
to hear talking about playing!!

How to Record Guitar Videos (Audio & Video)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmSbOpOluDo&index=4&list=LLTVgXy5pOO9ff20O1Z1QPMw

This isn't really a video of her playing but more of a tutorial of how to actually record and edit your guitar parts on your computer. I've watched plenty of other similar kinds of videos and they are so dense or lacking the ability to actually explain what they are doing that they are frustrating to sit through. Rachelf on the other-hand does a great job of simplifying the process.

Kiss - Heaven's On Fire

I'm not entirely sure of the timeline and how many Iceman's with Rhinestones he had, but during the Dynasty Tour he had shifted to a C racked Mirror version and a few years later he took the idea of the C racked Mirror to another guitar which is not an Iceman. I mis-remembered it being one. But it's kind of neat to see the trajectory of any idea jumping from one guitar to the next. BTW, the C racked Mirror Iceman is the one I've looked at getting. It's still on my Wish List of guitars to get. But the asking price is ridiculous.

John5 or Paul Gilbert....

55 minutes of Paul....should be interesting

Yeah, the past 3 weeks or so, I've noticed that John and Paul are battling it out in the "how many channels can I guest-star in and release a video to hype said channel" Tour. It's been awesome.

I need John5 to recap Paul's most recent interview...and then I'd like to see a Paul Gilbert reaction video to kids reacting to John5 doing this.

Yeah, I told ya he was da bomb. Seriously, the guy plays with no effort. It's like his mind is elsewhere when chatting and his playing has a mind of his own.

I sort of pictured it was going to be more of the you know everything you see on YouTube.  a guy that can play Paul Gilbert licks or Yngwie or a John Petrucci vibe etc.  but this kid is tasty.

He could play in Steely Dan if he wanted!!

Nita Strauss performs Nakamura's WrestleMania theme: Exclusive, April 8, 2018

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_m1cHMKOY8g

One of the coolest moments last night when I was watching WrestleMania was seeing Nita of all people getting a spotlight and blowing the roof off the house. She was f*cking amazing. This was a BIG surprise for me and totally unexpected. I've been searching all day waiting for anyone to post a performance video from last night. So far, nothing. Still waiting. For now, you will have to just be happy with her WrestleMania interview.

wow great gig for Mike....Lindsay must be a real pain to work with....but honestly
at this point...I think solo shows for him would do pretty well anyway.

It's kinds sad him talking about all the stuff with Tom not knowing just a few years later...he'd be gone/

the music sounds really good stripped down...when he just plays it...they are really tasty

Yeah she's a cutie.  I know her channel.  Smooth playing and really adorable faces while she effortlessly plays stuff I'd look like I am having a grand mal seizure doing.  Lol

The thing I found most interesting about her is she's British.  She looks American to me.  :)  She should post more, her channel is light content-wise for one that's been up for about 5 years I think.

Just my two bits.

I wish I was that cute playing!  :)

This is actually interesting to watch for a number of reasons. At the end of the day, I knew this was going to be an abject failure. You can't go and Djent to the masses, where 98% of the people on the planet don't even know what Djent is....let alone like it. Just sayin'.

This popped back into my feed tonight for whatever reason. Decided to watch it again and it dawned on me that this was the video that introduced me to Nita Strauss couple years ago. It's just strange to rewatch and see just how far she has come. To see her more or less "scared" to play for Jason doesn't add up to who she is now. Know what I mean? Anyway, cool vid for sure.

Jason Becker - Hold On To Love (feat. Codany Holiday) (Official Music Video)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8jAQWpO1Ac

So, I saw that this new vid just dropped and didn't know what to expect. But this song is, I certainly wasn't expecting at all. It's Jason, so I was thinking it would be a guitar-heavy song like he is known for. This song, WOW! I didn't think he could write such a beautiful song not because he doesn't have that inside of him, I've just never heard anything like that from him in the past. This song is fantastic. Brought a tear to my eye. This is going on my playlist. Great job Jason!!

I would say that I subscribe to about 90% of those in the video. It's like watching an extended "Stars" solo. The one person that surprised me in the vid was seeing Thomas "McRocklin" McLaughlin. I always wondered what happened to him. I did a search for him about a year ago and could only find archival footage from the 90's. Great to see that he has a YouTube Channel now.

I will look him up.

so what is the deal with The Dooo...I am guessing you know him from Twitch also...so does he just play games and then start
playing guitar...he seems pretty famous over there based on some of his videos...like he trolls people by playing?

funny idea....dude is young too like 21 or 22...must be nice.
hahahaha

I will check out that player you mentioned...not sure I even remember him from the video.

Post by: boyinblack80 on December 28, 2018, 09:24:03 am
oh yeah that guy.

He for sure stood out in the group...he was like the snow white shredder dad. (had like a Clark Kent / Steve Vai vibe)  hahaha

I'll have to check out more of his stuff...so where is he from in the 90's was he in a big band or something I am not aware of?

McRocklin had a band called Bad4Good that got some airplay on MTV back in the day. They were not what I'd call good. Just another band in a sea of bands out there. The only reason why there was any "interest" at the time had to do with McRocklin being the Wonderkid that Vai was pushing hard in the media and the other reason was Danny Cooksey, the red-headed kid from....Different Strokes and T2.

right I remember him now more.

funny he's still got the Vai vibe...not just the guitar but there's just something about him

hahaha

fun stuff...Now I am listening to a bunch of these guys today and wishing I didn't suck on guitar

yeah that was really good...he had some really tasty stuff going on.  a few times he went into a MUSE song with the arpegios....I was getting bored the last minute and was about to turn it off (made it to the end though)
but he did some really great stuff and overall was more interesting to listen to than 70% of the shred players out there you'd randomly find on youtube.

I think I'd seen a video of his when he was a bit younger...might have been in his bedroom.

The Game Of Thrones Theme Song | Custom Shop | Fender

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i0a7RDPkM8

I still say that the Game of Thrones Theme Song is one of the greatest ever for a TV Series and every time the opening hits, it gets me extremely pumped for the forthcoming GoT episode. So, to have these Rock Legends playing their interpretation of the song was damn f*cking cool to say the least. With that said, Kristian Nairn should have been invited to sit in for obvious reasons.

Andy Timmons | Uncle Ben | Bohemian Rhapsody LIVE Knoxville TN October 2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wrcs3AhvexE

Whenever I see Andy Timmons pop up here and there on YouTube, it always sends me back to my Guitar For The Practicing Musican and Guitar World days as that was where I first "heard" of him when I'd check to see who was transcribing such and such songs. As for this performance, it's f*cking dope. Sh*t man, this is some good playing here. Oh, Uncle Ben on Bass always throws me off balance. I'll never get use to him playing Bass. Just seems so foreign to me. With that said, he is really good on Bass for sure.

Steve Morse and Paul Gilbert NAMM 2020

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gx4XZRgg8EY

This is a great performance. Steve ALWAYS crushes it. Paul was good too. But what blows my mind is that Steve is STILL playing the same Ernie Ball  Music Man Guitar all these years later. Not a replica or a backup...but the SAME guitar. He was playing it back in the day when he popped up at Blue Guitar. He was playing it long before then too. Crazzzzzy! I don't know how that guitar has survived all these years given how much he plays and all the tours he has been on over the years.

What If EVH or Eric Johnson Played the “Stairway to Heaven” Solo? (Feat. Eric Johnson)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cOosnkWj2g&ab_channel=RickBeato

This was a trip. I knew that Phil was gonna bring it as he always does....but Eric's style fit the song the best. It actually felt like it could have been the solo had Jimmy never played it himself.

This kid does Randy justice. This is the first I'm hearing of Maciej Stelmach. Never seen him pop up in my YT feed till today. Love Diary of a Madman (and Blizzard of Oz too. Duh). So this was a trip to see all the solos in one video. Gonna check out his other videos now.....

The Interview with Paul dropped this morning and it was fascinating to hear. And then just now, Paul performing Live showing exactly what he was talking about earlier is just dope as f*ck. Be sure to watch both videos. Well worth it.
