Yngwie Malmsteen - Echo Etude
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvxPui7s4so
I'm going to forego the typical Yngwie shred-fest and go with this, my personal favorite piece he's ever done and something I find to be more original and creative instead of the million-notes-per-minute playing he is known for. He makes his playing in Echo Etude sound like a freaking orchestra for cying out loud!!!

I just came across this tonight. I have no idea when it came out or how new (old) it is. All I can think of after watching it....it's...something. I hated it when it started. And when the drums finally kicked in, I hated the sound of the drums. But then by the end of it..I kinda liked it....but not really. I dunno. I'm confused. I need a drink.
-
It's not horrible, but it's not something I'd listen to that much. It's much more complex and layered than typical rock band stuff unless you start talking about more progressive groups like 'Live'. Even Trans Siberian with the orchestration there. Hell, the boys have had plenty of time off to venture into new directions. Let's see what they bring us.
-
I like it a bit more the 2nd time around, but I do still think that the drum sound is a bit off. Or maybe I'm just hearing it differently.

Hey Umaine, have you checked out any of That Metal Show (Season 8.) (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/music/that-metal-show-(season-8)/) this season? Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore and a host of others have been the Special Guest Guitarist for specific episodes. Tony out of all of them has been on fire this season. Billy Sheehan has also popped up a couple of times too.

I haven't had time to really sit and watch any of TMS this season but when I do it'll probably be a few shows in one sitting.

not a guitar god....but this demo is pretty interesting and the guy can play VERY well.
even I found it a little weird seeing a guy play this type of material (at first it's kind of blues based...but then he moves into Yngwie and Paul Gilbert kind of stuff...) on a Les Paul...but he can play for sure.....hence his addition here..
:)
-
Watching that clip, it felt like I was at the NAMM show. You know what I mean? There's no backing band or music to solo over, so you just riff and play off the cuff stuff. THAT's the NAMM show in a nutshell.....all.......day......looooooooooooong. I miss it. For sure than guy can rip.

a lot of this stuff reminds me of Guitar Center (not literally like a moment I had there)
but I remember back when I was in bands...I always hated show offs...there's nothing wrong with being a great player and showing that.
but sometimes....it's like this struggle these guys have....they don't play in bands and don't write music or actually entertain anyone....it's just like shredfest.
not that there's anything wrong with that...but I think I like more "players" who can actually play...but write great music and have some originality.
that all comes with time...but guitar playing is an extension of you.....so these guys miss the mark by a million miles...because they never learn to sound like themselves.
my two bits...
back to watching guitar clips and organizing crap for that comic con
:)
-
yeah that Beck clip is amazing.....he never uses a pick that crazy bastard!
it's so insane.

Craig Chaquico (http://craigchaquico.com/)
Listening to his website sounds very familiar.... hmmmmm, who might that sound like?
Formerly of Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship and Starship, now on his own.
I've liked JS in pretty much all their evolving genres, but the song Save Your Love is just killer showmanship and let's him really spread his wings. If you want to get to the good stuff, about 2/3 of the way in.
Just an amazing guitarist. Highly underrated.

I hope things line up right for that kid as he grows up. The talent he has is amazing.
He's heading in the right direction. He's got the talent and now he's got notoriety.
-
I just worry about having that kind of attention at that age. Hell, he's really doesn't have an age yet.
-
I love Ozzy turning and facing him towards the crowd!!
hahahaha
'this is the way to face when you ROCK!'
he'll peak by the time he's 17...and wallow in abject misery working at some guitar store in Japan.
;)
-
I was thinking he'd peak at 12 with an album that brings guitar back... get hooked on drugs, women and wine and be on celebrity apprentice by 14. Doing what the Asian community has been doing forever by redefining odd.
-
hahahahahaha I like that TOO!
it's tough to be so young and do something so well....I mean to be a young adult or 17-19 years of age and actually have something of INTEREST to offer the world is totally different than have the dexterity to play a guitar at 8 or 9 years old....once you hit late teens/early twenties ..it's what do you have to offer that people will want to listen to...a lot of people can play very well.

Earl Slick and Lee Rocker - Men Without Shame
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIsbPxkBW-M&feature=related
Back in the day, there was this side project for Lee Rocker and Jim Phantom called Phantom, Rocker and Slick. I was already a fan of the Stray Cats but I was very curious who this 'Earl Slick' was. I kinda knew he had played with David Bowie, but I never really went any further than that. So, when their first single and video dropped, I was f u c k i n g blown away and had found a new Guitar God to worship. Earl's style of playing had more balls than anything that I had heard of in a while at that time. And holy crap, the f u c k i n g tone this guy had on the album was f u c k i n g off the hook ridiculous. I wonder if it has anything to do with the Orange Pre-Amp. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/HTL_wink.gif) So tasty it should be illegal in all states.
I couldn't find the original video, but this video of 2/3 of the band is just phenomenal. Listen to Earl tear it up. His playing is still stellar. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/headbanginggenesimmons.gif)

George Thorogood & Albert Collins (Live Aid - 1985)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isTXK7sQm24&feature=related
George is one bad ass motherf*cker! I looooooooove his playing. His style is what I like to call "controlled chaos". It always seem to going a million miles an hour, but it's going somewhere very cool. Sure, lots of people can play fast, but they can't always play memorable licks without it sounding repetitive and redundant. And lets not forget Albert Collins. This dude can smoke anyone. I remember watching this live that day and was blown away by their performance. Funny story, when Collins came out on stage, I was like "what the f*ck is he doing with his guitar strap? It's on the wrong shoulder"! I had never seen any other guitar player before do that. So naturally I tried it myself....with disastrous results. I tried doing the 'windmill' ala Pete Townsend and my guitar went through the wall. BAM!!!! Hahaha. George Thorogood - Bad To The Bone (Live)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7VsoxT_FUY
The song (and guitar playing) that got me into GT, the Guitar God. It's STILL one of my all time favorite songs to showcase guitar playing. I'm coming back around to one of my early fav heavy metal bands Budgie that consisted of Burke Shelley on vocals and bass, Tony Bourge on guitar and vocals, and Ray Phillips on drums. A lot of comparisons were made to Rush because of the 3 man powerhouse and Burke Shelley's high pitched voice.
Tony Bourge had and enormous influence on some of the current heavy metal artists in the last couple of decades. Below is Parents which showcases his skills in rock, blues and ballads. This video is of Tredegar, a group Tony formed after leaving Budgie. But Parents is a Budgie classic.
Tony has since retired from music...

I didn't like it at his slowest speed....it sounded totally out of tune and it's a dissonant piece to begin with he was sounding very funky and not in a good way....but if you read further...it's also a hoax.
he's good though no doubt...I wouldn't have been able to play it even at his slowest speed by a long shot
-
here's a quote well two I totally agree with:
" playing the song in key would be a lot better"
and also:
" flight of the bumblebee was once played by Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme. He doesn't play it anything like Nuno does. Nuno's version actually sounds good."

I like this guys voice...
Video footage of Slash and Myles Kennedy performing an acoustic version of the song "Standing In The Sun" for the readers of Classic Rock magazine can be seen below.
"World On Fire", the third album to be made available under the Slash solo banner, will be released on September 15 via Slash's own label Dik Hayd International distributed through Roadrunner Records (Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America). A total of 17 songs, including one instrumental, were laid down for the follow-up to 2012's "Apocalyptic Love" with producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette (ALTER BRIDGE, FALLING IN REVERSE, INCUBUS).
The cover artwork for the "World On Fire" album was designed by American contemporary artist Ron English.
Slash told Music Radar about the new CD, "I wrote the majority of the music when I was on the 'Apocalyptic Love' tour. You know, just sitting around in dressing rooms and hotel rooms for a year, I accumulated all these ideas. Then in September [2013] I sat down and went through everything I'd recorded on my voice memo on my phone and picked out about 20 different ideas then we went into pre-production in October and just started jamming. We were there for a couple of months, holed up in Mates rehearsal studio in Los Angeles. There was the whole writing process then once we had all the songs down we rehearsed the **** out of it, and then we brought the producer, Mike Baskette, in. And so we went through another phase of fine tooth-combing everything and getting the arrangements together. Myles came down and started working on his vocal parts… and by the time we were done with all that we were ready to go in and just bang the stuff out. It was a very quick process in the studio."
He continued: "The one thing about this record is that it was almost like it wrote itself, it was very effortless. And that happens very rarely, when there's a certain energy that carries the creative process and it's almost like you're not in control of it and you just ride that wave. That's how this record was. I can't think of any outside influence other than just going with this creative flow."
Slash released his first self-titled solo effort in 2010.
The legendary guitarist employed a different vocalist on each track of his first album, before settling on ALTER BRIDGE member Kennedy for both touring and eventually recording.
"Apocalyptic Love" earned Slash his two first-ever No. 1 U.S. rock radio hits with "You're A Lie" and "Standing In The Sun". The record's third single, "Anastasia", **** the Top 10 at both Modern and Active Rock.
Slash and AEROSMITH have teamed up for a U.S. tour this summer.

Rig Rundown - Steve Stevens
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vk2Fk9TdKWY
Oh Lordy! Everything that is in the video, I want for Christmas!!! Gimme!!!! Steve breaks down his entire rig and the guitars he tours with. Heck man, he even talks about the Ray Gun myth that has been following him since Rebel Yell and it's cool to see him do a demonstration of it. Not sure if that was the same Bob Bradshaw rig he was messing with near the end of the video. It looks pretty similar to what he had back in the mid 80's. I don't think it would be able to survive that long. He may have had someone build him another using the same specs as before. Don;t quote me on that. As I remember it, the original was black and the one on stage was bluish, but that could be the sun giving it that look.

Okay, I'm looking to get a Les Paul. Gonna go with Epiphone because I just can't justify getting Gibson right now that would break the bank. Besides, I just want a nice guitar as a weekend warrior as I'm not a professional. So, Epiphone it is. These are the finishes that I'm looking at. I want your input which one you like the best. Doesn't matter if you play guitar or not. Just want to see what you guys think is the best and why. I won't tell you mine until I've heard your choices so as not to influence you in anyway.
-
Without a doubt, my favorite of the bunch is the Alpine White. I'm actually in the same mode as you looking at kits. I've just seen kits on stage with the white or pearl white and when lights hit it, it just looks awesome. Seriously, that's my only push towards that finish.
My old guitarist has something similar to the Desert Burst, and I was very impressed how it looked.
I'm a weekend warrior of woodworking and love an amazing grain showing.
Let us know with what you get.
-
Thanks for your insight. I will wait till the others chime in with their picks before I reveal which finish I'm leaning towards. And not to worry, whichever one I settle on, I will be posting plenty of pics for sure.

this has got to be exciting... right?
I would love to pick up a guitar and mess around with it. I played acoustic years ago, but just put it down. I would love to have something available to just pick up.
Our town has one of the premiere Vintage Guitar stores in the world. Killer Vintage (http://killervintage.com/). The owner is one of the top few people in the world that knows guitar worth. Apparently just about any act that comes into town, goes to see his shop to see what's available. I went in there a few weekends ago. It's a hole in the wall shop, but it has some very cool stuff.
-
It's very exciting! I've never owned a Les Paul. I've always been in the Strat or Ibanez camp, but that has never stopped me from lusting after an LP. I thought it was going to be easy to grab an Epi LP due to the fact that they are affordable. But having looked at a few YouTube reviews, and read plenty more. It obviously comes down to finishes, style and of course the electronics. Been watching a ton of auctions on eBay to see what the averages are for each of the above models I've narrowed it down to.

The review is about 2 years old, but everything with this line has the same guts. The Coil-Tapping is a big plus for me as it offers you even more tones by splitting the pickups. Sounds great with the ProBuckers.
-
I would encourage you talk, email Dave Hinson at Killer Vintage, once you whittle it down. He's very approachable and would help out with your choices.
-
Yeah, I was checking out the link. Thanks by the way. Will definitely hit him up and see what he has to say.

How to Avoid Sucking as a Self-Taught Guitarist (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/lessons/correct_practice/how_to_avoid_sucking_as_a_self-taught_guitarist.html)
What a great read. Anyone that has ever struggled with learning how to play guitar as a kid...or even as an adult will surely relate to what this guy went through. I certainly can relate. Sh*t, reading the article was eerily similar to what I went through back in High School. I got stuck in a time period where I 'had' to learn all the flashy techniques of the day. But doing that came at the expense of the songs. It wasn't until years later I dumped that idea of "being the fastest" and turning my forcus toward songs. Check out the article as it applies to any instrument.

Joe Satriani Private Lesson "Official"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXk4gxcjVr8
So, this video popped up in my YouTube Recommendation feed. Never seen or heard it before. Video I think is a year old. Anyway, this Private Lesson was the grand prize for one lucky fan to get a one on one lesson from the man himself. My first thought was this guy is going to be a complete novice. WRONG! This guy can f*cking play. When Joe ask him to play something so that he would have an idea of what to teach him in the lesson, I was expecting some riffs or some scales. What I wasn't expecting was to hear him tear into a note-for-note version of Satch Boogie. I was like "this guy doesn't need any lessons"!!!! Actually he kinda did because Joe was able to point out some "flaws" and it was actually sound advice. It would make him a better player. The rest of the lesson was very good and informative. More about how to train both your ear and your brain through chords rather than learning a set of scales and what not. I like how they closed out the video with both jamming to Joe's epic Rubina song. I take my hat off to the guy that got the lesson. I would have been fumbling, sweating and just in a panic attack having to play in front of Joe like that.

Well, 3 days ago I finally found a sweet deal on eBay and I pulled the trigger on nabbing me an Honeyburst Epiphone Les Paul. It was Brand New and I managed to talk the guy down to selling it to me for more than half the price with free shipping. It just arrived today. It looks amazing. The pic used in the auction doesn't do the veneer justice. Gonna put it through it's paces later tonight when I get my work done. Can't wait. I did a once over inspection and it is New for sure. Just down to guts and action now. I will snap a few pics and post later.
-
Do you know how to play?
My sister has a couple, I think I mentioned, and I gave her a couple guitar songbooks last year. Popular songs, real rock hits, you know? I don't think she's picked up either once. I'm garbage with musical instruments (I think all that time drawing ruined me for having two hands doing independent, coordinated things) but I wanna try, if she's not gonna bother, lemme borrow one!
-
Yeah, I've been playing since Jr. High which is where I had my first Guitar Class. A while back (15 years ago or so), I had to sell a lot of my equipment as I needed cash. The only ones I kept (because I couldn't sell) were a couple of beat up pieces of sh*t that no one would want, let alone pay for. Since I've gotten back into playing in a big way, it was time that I treated myself to a nice guitar, more specifically a Les Paul as I've never owned one before. As you know, I have a thread devoted specifically to Rocksmith (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/video-games/rocksmith/msg1686/#msg1686) which went a long way to getting me to reconnect with playing again. If you have a guitar on hand, definitely pick up a used copy of the "game" on eBay. This is essentially a guitar teaching teacher right in your own home and cheaper too! If you pick up the game, make sure you're getting one that comes with the cable as you will need it to plug your guitar into your PC.

Here's a quick shot of my new guitar. The images don't do it justice. Using a pocket camera and the flash pretty much washes out the grain and the Reds are not as Red IRL. It's a more subdued Brownish-Red, which is what I was going for. I still need to get a Hardshell case. I will take more pics using a better camera with natural lighting down the road and hopefully I can replicate the actual look with future pictures.
-
GORGEOUS... makes me drool. I'd love to have something like that to pick up and play.
You know what would look freakin' awesome is a case that has a complimentary color to your guitar.
I remember this guitar and case popping out of the screen when they were showcasing it. It's a scene from Rudderless

Yeah, I'd like what you're thinking. But as of now, all I see on eBay are cases with grey interior. I'd go for something like the one in that pic. That Lime finish on the guitar is also awesome btw.

Here's an update. I originally sought out eBay looking for a Hardshell case, but the average cost, no matter who the seller was, was around $130. I'm not spending that kind of money on a f*cking case!!! Long story short is that when I took my Bass down to the local Music Store to fix a buzzing sound, I asked them if they had any Hardshell cases for Les Paul's and sure enough, they did. $50 out the door. Major score! Suck it eBay!!!

Ibanez Iceman **** Mirror

I'm currently looking to get another guitar or two, but they are pricey as f*ck and most likely will never come about. I'd like to get an Ibanez Iceman **** Mirror Top, but the sticker prices rangers anywhere from $3k to $15k. So, yeah. I can just dream on that one for the time being. I find it very cool to watch an artist of Steve's caliber to watch old VHS Tapes of himself playing in his High School Band, before they were even known to anyone. Kind of like a Behind The Music segment in a way. Bonus points for Steve showing off his weird Guitar/Lap Harp Double Neck hybrid. I can't remember the actual name that it's known by. Last time I played one I was in Elementary School. Haven't seen one in person since then and totally forgot about it. Anyway, the guitar is odd looking and yet it makes perfect sense.

Disregard the cheesy lyrics (and the singer of course) and just dive right into the guitar solo. Some good sh*t. I love how they went with a worldview of players from all around the world. Out of all of them, I only know maybe 5-6 of the players. Everyone else....I have no idea who they are, but they are great. The solo reminds me of Hearing Aid's Stars video and song.

Chip, prodigies dot all aspects of talent. We have 'em in the drumming world as well.
I get your distaste. I too have viewed these prodigies with prejudice. Over time, I have adopted a different perspective of inspiration. I've always viewed much older folks than me, that have great talent... and continue to perform as inspiration for me. If they can do it... why can't I? I look at child prodigies a little different, but they no longer **** me off. It's more a challenge for me now.
Secondly, the way this kid plays immediately reminded me of Toy Caldwell. Writer, guitarist, singer for The Marshall Tucker Band. His playing was soooooo unique, that they did have a signature sound. Like Bonomassa, Caldwell was all soul. Beautiful playing.
https://youtu.be/QRFki2_-PE8

I wasn't knocking the kid. It was more about shining a light on the fact that I should have taken it serious when I was that young. I got my first guitar when I was in elementary school and didn't do much with it except learn a few chords. It wasn't until Jr. High School that I really put in serious effort on my part. This kid is definitely an inspiration.

Same here... I dabbled in music a little in high school and beyond, and since then have wished I did a whole lot more.
And the converse, my son excelled in marching band and orchestra learning Sax and trumpet. That suddenly came to a halt with college. Such a shame. He was good with no where to go but up. Instead College life completely shut out his music direction along with video games.

This is fantastic. I loved that they showed that she was terrified of playing in front of Jason. This just adds to the authenticity of the moment. This just goes to show that even someone as accomplished as she is, has too deal with moments of doubt. She nailed it.

Rob Scallon - Metallica's "One" Played on One Guitar
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzwPZ27ju5I
This is awesome. I can only imagine how may times they had to rehearse this to get it right so that they wouldn't step on each others....fingers.
;D
-
That certainly was different. Not seen anything like that before.
Pretty cool to watch.
-
Grandfather aged 81 walks into guitar shop then stuns everybody with this jaw-dropping solo (Bob Wood)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie8eEJopUUQ
Not sure if I already posted this awhile back. If not, here ya go. It's awesome.
-
I sure don't remember if you did, but it warrants a post here. That was cool.
-
She's not a god, but good and damn if she isn't creative. I really enjoy her take Fleetwood Mac's. Man give her a platform (studio) and let's see what she could do.

Steve Vai - The Making of Woody
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wyKqZeMdUI
This is without a doubt the best and certainly the most entertaining Guitar Build video ever.
Steve Vai - "30 years of the Ibanez JEM"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gjf_e6h0dtY
This video is dope. This is just another prime example why I love Steve's YouTube Channel. His videos are just more than the standard "look at me shred" puff pieces. As for the JEM, I've always wanted one for myself and came pretty close to pulling the trigger on the Floral JEM and the Multi-Color JEM. But they were so damn expensive back in the late 80's, early 90's that I just couldn't justify that kind of price.
-
cool I have NO seen these...
here's that concert I mentioned...it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQAB-sqSdOY
then this is that NAMM era clip...just Satch Boogie but as you can see people were able to walk right up to the stage....I'd bet money I can spot myself here somewhere..I was RIGHT in front..literally.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fWtnNVhPko
-
Watching the full concert now.
-
the concert is REALLY fun.
-
the place where he's playing is a TRIP>...on the side of a freaking MOUNTAIN!!!!!!!!!

Steve Vai and Russian Guitarists - Flash Mob Live 2016, Moscow
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRurCKVDTEU
I'm trying to recall if I have ever seen that many guitar players on one stage before. The only thing I can think of is AC/DC (Who Made Who) and Ace Frehley (Rock Soldiers), but those were music videos. This is something different all together. It wouldn't surprise me one bit that none of them were actually plugged in. Having watched it a second time, I don't think they are because A), that's a lot of noise to control and they can't be so perfectly in sync to make it sound as "clean" as it is and B) at the end of the song when Steve is saying his "thank you" to the crowd, a bunch of the guitar players in the back are still strumming and yet.....no sound. I think it was more like a music video after all. Haha. Hey, at least that were on stage with Vai. That's more than most people get.

Another great jem from Norman's Rare Guitar.
-
Steve Vai & Apocalyptica - Kashmir
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIrYjUnNvGE
This is great. Taken from the same show a couple of posts back. I'm trying to remember if I've ever heard Steve doing any Zep covers and nothing comes to mind at the moment.
-
Yeah I'd agree. I don't remember Vai doing any Zeppelin. Nice find!
-
Difable (Yana Mulyana) - Yngwie Malmsteen cover Brother
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_NY9Gex20k
Damn this guy is good.
-
oh yeah I'd seen this a few years back....dude makes everyone have to reconsider your own "limitations" of things.
Yngwie has seen that and commented although I can't remember where...but he was very impressed and might have sent the guy something if I remember correctly.
rock on!

Stevie Ray Vaughan Guitar Lesson
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZoX6Q0UK8A
Man, check out the upload date on this. 11 Years ago! I didn't think YouTube had been around that long. Ha. As for this video, how is it I have never seen this until tonight? It's pretty cool. I miss having him around making music.
-
yeah I have never seen this either...great score...
that tone is awesome....man!

The RETURN Of The Angriest Guitar Player In The World!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vms_6_TSQuc&t=153s
Revisiting a classic. He just wants to be good. So, I can relate in him just getting so frustrated at stumbling at the same spot regardless of how many hours he puts in.
-
Jared James Nichols 1986 Kramer Stryper (Eddie Van Halen)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTut9xJHAng&t=390s
This is dope! What one has to do in order to get their hands on a legit Kramer and not just a prototype or a replica, but THE Frankenstein (one of five) that I grew wanting for myself when I was a kid. Lucky motherf*cker.
-
well they are selling that guitar...he's got Phil X's role of doing the demos. I am guessing here but I think that would go for around 45-65K....which ain't bad.
totally a guess though.....my first thought was 25K but that seemed low.
-
I wish Phil had done this demo...this guy is kind of dull
:(
seems like a nice dude and everything but Phil really made the demo's come to life.
-
Great bit of information there. I learn new stuff everyday from you.
-
nah I am sure you knew that.
ok speaking of Guitar Gods...this guy is my new hero.

Ernie Ball: String Theory - Kirk Hammett
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6Et2po6DU8
Just discovered that Ernie Ball has it's own YouTube Channel. Never knew. This profile on Kirk is really good.
-
Ernie Ball: String Theory featuring Steve Vai
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5caGv0ajsl8
As good as the Kirk promo is, the Steve Vai one is exceptional. I love the B-Roll shots here. Overall, these Ernie Ball Segments are shot and edited incredibly well. Love listening to Steve talk about anything.
-
he's playing Leper Messiah on Peter Green's vintage Les Paul probably worth 300K or a bit more.
-
I'll watch the full ones of these tomorrow.
my back is killing me and I was just about to chill out for the night.
these look awesome. I knew Ernie Ball had a channel but never caught these!
-
Monopoly money!
-
Watch Vai. You'll wanna pick up your guitar immediately after and make sweet love to it.
-
let's talk tone.
do you like the sound of this amp? (he plays great so either way it should be enjoyable~!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQEZrzlR5Jg
-
Might as well throw this one up...so he can be with his brothers.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cmd10SrNF2g
the Vai and Kirk Hammett ones were very inspirational!

I know you like this guy....the more the merrier!!

-
this is fun to if you've not seen it...it's cool Steve did his own rundown....some guys have their tech do it
:(
:)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vk2Fk9TdKWY
-
Nice find on the Ernie Ball String Theory for Paul and Steve. Haven't seen those yet. Will watch them on Big TV. As for the Rig Rundown, I watched this maybe 6 months ago and found it to be one of the more enjoyable Rundowns they have done. I'm just glad they didn't have John Bohlinger hosting this. I always groan whenever he does the "interview". He's just pailful to watch and comes across very unprepared because his questions are so generic and lame. He's always in geek mode and tends to ask questions you would get from a 15 year girl about to faint at the sight of (INSERT CURRENT BOY BAND IDOL OF THE WEEK HERE). Doesn't make for a good video IMO. But Steve's rundown is great for sure.
-
I just watched the full rundown again just now...he's an awesome guy and boy when he plays it is TASTY.
great licks, iconic riffs, creative yet simple things...up to complex and very like "whoa my god" stuff.
he's the total package.
I had no idea he'd played with Vince Neil. I might have to look for some live shows.
-
this is pretty awesome and man what a band he has here. I think the drummer is Vai's guy now...or has been before.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XU9mhfNygNA
-
Man, that has gotta be the biggest rock ever to be hidden under to not know that Vince and Steve hooked up. It was decent. Wasn't much to write home about. They each belonged in their respective bands for obvious reasons.
-
Ernie Ball: String Theory featuring Tom Dumont
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auU_XzxXaQw
I watched this earlier today. I'm glad somebody gave Dumont a spotlight. Ernie Ball does a great job here. He doesn't get all the accolades that he definitely deserves.
-
I am guessing it's the guy from No Doubt? The band kind of got shafted...sort of the worst scenario nightmare came true which was Gwen ultimately being whisked away into her own fame and fortune leaving the band
a bit high and dry.
sucks but I am sure that was a concern for a LONG time with the band...they'd even addressed it in their videos.
-
Yes Sir, No Doubt.
-
this is really awesome if you've never seen it.
so many killer guitars and amps Joe B has...it's insane
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctx86V-GI8A

Ugh. Anyone but him! Please! You host it!!

I'll check out Joe's Nerdville later tonight. Thanks.
-
older clip...not sure I've seen it yet...but this youtuber just added it up
30 minutes of Vai is never a bad thing!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfXZeOHp5So
-
It's a rare gift that he's just as interesting to listen to talk as he is when playing his axe.
-
yeah Vai is great.
it's interesting that he says guitar wasn't easy for him and he had to work very hard for it.
I really loved that as someone who struggles with things.
:)
-
for the last 2 years I've become a bigger and bigger fan of King Crimson...here's Robert Fripp (a guitar genius and founder of the band) sitting in the back while Vai and Satriani play his along with him.
pretty amazing and interesting to watch...the song is sick/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3FUcSHeJJg

How is it that I've never seen this till now?

check this out man.
there's a reason it has 2 million views.

Ernie Ball: String Theory featuring Paul Stanley
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x901SuxON9w
This dropped about half an hour ago and it's easily the best String Theory Segment yet. Prior to watching this, I always thought it was odd that we have never really gotten anything like this where it focuses on Paul's rhythm playing to the extent we get here. But seeing it now, it just blows my mind that it took 40 years to get this. LOVE IT! This just makes me want to pick up the guitar and rock out. I could, can and will watch this numerous times no doubt.

here's a playlist of tons of SS stuff
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSMZMcQz0NE&list=RDXhjPCZo90j8
-
Paul's string theory is great.
I LOVE great rhythm guitar.
-
that one Les Paul he's playing is worth about 300 grand by the way.
:)
-
.....and standing right next to him on stage every night, Tommy plays a $300 Epiphone. ;D
FYI, Steve has always been a fave of mine. Great videos.
-
Famous Guitar Shredders At Their Young Age
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSSrdq1LJfw
Reposting this as it was taken down due to the fact that some idiot labeled Jason Becker's video as Zakk Wylde.
-
no I totally know how much you love SS...that is why I have made a point to post those.
what is great about him is he's not only a great player but he's MUSICAL. It has a personality to it and isn't just wanking to show you have dexterity...which he has in spades too.
-
Eric Johnson - Taking Zakk Wylde's guitar rig for a test-drive

Audrey Shida - "Cult of Personality" live at Rocksmith's 5th Anniversary October 20, 2016
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIgzfuQ9jvs
If you don't know the name Audrey Shida, you should. She learned how to play guitar simply by playing Rocksmith. Check out here killer rendition of Cult Of Personality....note for note. So damn good. The singer they have here is pretty damn good too. He nails on the vocal ticks and inflections of Corey Glover to a T.

Deeper With Steve Vai

Great and very entertaining interview on both sides of the mic. Both Vai and Sixx bring it.

My Favorite Riff with Nikki Sixx: Steve Vai

More awesomeness with Steve and Nikki. I just wished that Steve played nothing but Zep Riffs for half an hour though, as it's not something we get to see him do on a regular basis.
-
interview #4

Foo Fighters - You Really Got Me (ft. Mick Murphy)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWXIv9ZVgr0&list=LLTVgXy5pOO9ff20O1Z1QPMw&index=12
Normally something like this would go in the Foo Fighters Live thread...but with Mick Murphy front and center, it's appropriate to post in here.
-
I honestly can't put a band on the guy as just a name...watching now.
Maybe I'll figure it out.
-
ah
Chevy Metal...was watching some live stuff from them last night funny enough!!!!!!!!!
-
Have you seen this??
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djA3ZG3dHj0
not a major score but an hour with Steve talking about pedals...it's great and really interesting./
enjoy!
-
Have not seen this. Definitely gonna check it out.
-
MARTY FRIEDMAN - MIRACLE (Official Video)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47wq9W90bAQ
Now THIS is awesome. Video is really cool...but the song and melody is fantastic. Stuck in my ear after just one play.
-
watching now!
Marty is the man!!
-
yeah that perfect pedal order is an hour long video and Steve Vai talking about any part of guitar playing is always interesting, amazing, and insightful
so it will inspire you even if you aren't currently pondering "what order should my pedals be?"
which I wasn't except in a fantasy world of being a super awesome guitarist
:)
-
that Marty track is nice. I was working so didn't watch the video...but the song was super cool.
reminded me a tiny bit of this song either Marty or Jason did...looked for it, but couldn't find what track I was thinking of.

The Steve Vai Guitar Method - Episode 1 - Getting Started
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmiAEXbC6bA&list=LLTVgXy5pOO9ff20O1Z1QPMw&index=3
They started hyping this new series a few days ago and I've been patiently (impatiently) waiting for today to arrive. This is gonna be a good series.
-
My Favorite Riff with Nikki Sixx: Slash (Guns N' Roses)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzurBBp_Q8w
Great episode. Sucks that Nikki is ending the series though.
-
nice...gotta love Slash!@
thought I was going Bukckethead today and ended up doing Joe Satriani Not of this Earth and tons of Jason Becker.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7MEDrzcPbM
this track (below) was actually played by Greg Howe for Jason and honestly...it's incredible and the song is just so beautiful
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upk1PsfIlEM
-
River of Longing is so good...it's hard to believe a human created it.
-
one more...this track I swear to god I thought it was Steve Vai playing it...the emotion he gets out of the guitar and sonic 'personalities' and expressions is really insane
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gl4cSzoK-3o
-
wow if you want to hear some sexy blues jamming that is just off the charts in taste and execution.
here enjoy this...damn this guy is incredible.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5sKRNYsDME
-
this was that crazy buckethead thing.
fun to listen to...but it's all just him going off...so it can be a little random...but if you stick it out
it's actually totally worth it, and you'll want to go back and listen again
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxmUUSVZlqQ
-
6 to 7 minutes in it gets really cool....tripping out on how dissonant it sounds but works...he's flying through scales.
-
Gonna watch them on my Roku....in stereo. Thanks for these.
-
well this sucks
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz0EeRo9Wsw
-
dude Nikki on that Slash interview is so funny.
OH MY GOD
him talking about stealing everyone's riff was hysterical!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hahahaha
-
Yeah, Nikki mentions in the Slash vid that he was ending the series. Sucks indeed. One of the few things I looked forward to on YouTube these days.
-
might as well throw this up.
I do like Joe but sometimes get burned out on him talking for some reason but you know Nikki and Joe will bring it
listening right now and it's really cool.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VusqWXL3Kao&spfreload=5
and you a fan of Joe's playing? I think he's really talented but I am never compelled to watch or listen to him really...so for some reason it doesn't connect for me.
-
a guy commented this and I totally agree.
Not sure what Nikki was like in his super crazy days but in his life now...this rings very true...here's his quote...sadly he can't spell Sixx.
hahahaha
"This series has made me realize how humble and respectful a person Nikki Six is. An inspiration."
-
I'm kinda the same way with Joe. Not someone that I gravitate toward to when I'm in the listening mood for some guitar mastery.
As for Nikki, I met him years ago (along with Tommy) at NAMM and the one thing that struck me and has stayed with me all these years later was just how humble and gracious he was to take the time to talk to me. He really is an unassuming person. Tommy was pretty cool as well.
-
Yeah it's crazy right?
Just shows..you see these guys on stage or off and they seem like animals...but (especially) over time
now we get to see how they age and behave more....some mellow with age or you see more interviews
with them now...and think..."wow this guy is actually really smart or cool etc"
trying to think.// a few rockers who'd I have thought were kind of boneheads or dicks...ended up being
actually very smart and way more well grounded then I'd imagine/.
and then you have David Coverdale
;)
hahaha
-
enjoy.
same stuff he says in other interviews....but always great to hear his pearls of wisdom
and awesome playing...whew...there's some sweet sounds here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SfXGp0AItY
-
that is actually the Ernie Ball 10 minute ad...this guy just re-uploaded it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3kxw7ufvyI
"Why are all his lessons aimed at beginners?"
super awesome reply to this other poster was THIS
"If you don't think like a beginner even though you are advanced you will never be a master. Empty your cup."
-
I wish I was told/taught some of these basic "beginner" stuff when I first started out on Guitar. Some of this stuff I didn't learn about until years later. Would have shaved off a lot of mistakes early on in my quest to learn.
-
this guy does pretty fun lessons.
This one just went up I think last night....but seeing it just now, it made me think of you.
so check it out and Bark at the Moon (properly)
:)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K12ttVIvcGk
-
Yeah, I literally watched this last night within 5 minutes of it being dropped (I subscribed to his channel about 6 months ago). He has a lot of great and very useful tutorials. Check out the one on Chunking which by itself makes you change your perception of how to physically play 'faster'. It was and is any eye opener. I liked this updated version of Bark at the Moon. It's cool that he too saw the new Jake E Lee "tutorial" video that I watched last week or so. I wasn't expecting to get this new Tute last night
-
yeah there was another video I saw today on down picking super fast and he describe it like when you dribble a basketball really fast where your hand is really only keeping it going and it feels like it's doing less
but the ball is going up and down super fast.
interesting stuff....
we would have crushed it with all this info.
damn the 80's to hell
;)
hahahaha
Eddie Van Halen needs to do some playing videos...that cheapskate.
:)

Mikio Fujioka Best Guitar Moments
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrEv9kF_-8o
Just heard about the passing of Mikio today. Just a phenomenal talent. RIP.
-
very cool playing. I do not know Mikio Fujioka.....I had to keep working but honestly I couldn't tell from the first minute or two if it was
a guy or girl? I just listened to the last 3 minutes or so...but all of it was appealing to me...and sounded better than most of that style of
music honestly....so I will for sure check out more.
-
whoa that is crazy
not even kidding you...my spin today (first listens) was going to be BABY METAL
and for NO reason other than I wanted to check out something newer.
wow that is super crazy...what an ODD coincidence!!
-
That is crazy.
*Cue up Twilight Zone Theme Music*
-
ok just a teaser...Baby Metal is bringing tears to my eyes it so awesome
OH MY GOD. I love it....damn!
-
you can really hear his Allan Holdsworth influence here.

Coming Soon! The Joe Satriani Guitar Method!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBxZh3y2hAA
Yes! Coming soon.....
-
Bald guys rule!!
I've been working my right hand and really getting much better at rhythm. It's always been a hugely neglected part of my practice. No clue why??
At some point I'll have to blend it back in with my left hand again which is going to be a bizach. But I am for sure a better player for working with my right hand the last few weeks!

Who Shops at Norms PART II - New Song "This Old Guitar" by Norman Harris
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoC5oWUqofE&index=1&list=LLTVgXy5pOO9ff20O1Z1QPMw
I should be in this video. ;D
-
I popped that on last night and I couldn't get through the video the song was so crappy!! I got to I think Richie Sambora and Orianthi. It was funny too because no one had commented on the video yet it was so fresh.
I almost said something about the song and then when I clicked refresh there were about 5 comments and people were complimenting whoever did the song so I decided not to say anything.
Bullet dodged. :)

dang sorry to spam....but he's really freaking good...he did this at 10. Kid is German I think...really talented and it doesn't seem forced.

Great vids.

the whole kid being awesome thing can wear really thin.
This kid seems to really have a passion for it.
I can see him actually being a player in a band...most I don't see that happening for.

Steve Vai vs Joe Satriani - Whose Guitar Is Better??
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJRxTUovUEA&t=1431s&list=WL&index=32

Rabea and Chappers.

dang that could have gone on for another 2 hours.

Rob was awesome but Rabea playing that Satch was tasty

The Capt. Meets Paul Gilbert (2017) - Shred Alert!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PxX7plLKIc
This is what I watched while waiting for more Vinnie Vincent videos to be uploaded. This is without question the best Paul Gilbert interview ever. Just hearing him pull up classic 70's songs at the drop of a hat and actually sing some very recognizable songs makes this a must-see.
-
Paul is awesome. I've watched this 5 or 6 times if I'm ever having a bad day you can pop this on and in 90 minutes have a smile on your face.!!@

Steve Lynch on doing two-handed tapping before Eddie Van Halen (Eddie Trunk Show)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPcB_y5KU3w
I still have Steve's book. First Edition. Bought it around 85-86.
-
I recognize him. No clue what band he was in. Trying to think. ....lemme see.
Sort of a silly comment anyway.
I don't really hear Ed say specifically he did it first. He says he made it up...which is different. He worked the technique out without seeing other players doing it. Which is possible.
-
Autograph - Turn up the Radiohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8CcTYsMHYU
I recognize him. No clue what band he was in. Trying to think. ....lemme see.
Steve Lynch.
When this song and video dropped back in 84. I spent a lot of time transcribing the solo using my VHS and Remote (Pause/Rewind Button) to painstakingly log in every note.
-
wow crazy.
The name that kept popping into my head was actually AUTOGRAPH.
I couldn't picture him in the video and could only see the curly haired singer...so I kept
going no...it's probably something else.
just shows...your first instinct could be right!

Steve Vai || Guitar Lesson "Hot Licks"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Tz2BETx5A
I've never seen this particular video before and that's the cool thing about checking out Young Guitar clips. Before there was even a thing called YouTube, in order to get this content, you had to pay a pretty big price tag for the magazine. As I remember it, it would fluctuated from around 15 bucks to 25 bucks depending on how much stuff they were packing into it. The only place that I knew of where you could buy the mag was a Tower Records. I just wasn't willing to pay that kind of money for a magazine when I was already buying every issue of Guitar For The Practicing Musician at a fraction of the cost. So, all these years later, I finally get to see what I was missing from those mags I passed on.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwHteWw3_7s&list=LLTVgXy5pOO9ff20O1Z1QPMw&index=12
I quit.
-
Sick!!! I've not seen that Steve Vai clip but I did actually watch the Yngwie playing the non scalloped fret board a few days back. I was downloading like a hundred Yngwie videos just to make sure I had all the ones that are currently up.
Its a sickness i assure you
Lolol
I think it goes back to the VHS days or even is Beta you know stuff would pop on TV and you had to save it because you never knew if you would be able to watch it again, and some of those are the best memories ever.
I remember when I was little my mom made me miss the last half of Kiss Meets the Phantom. Because Love Boat was on. Do you know how many years I had to fuking wait to see the end of that movie? It might have been a decade. Haha!!

hahahahah
I know right....but look this is a global "players" pot we see...so of course the total freaks are going to be out there.
back when we were kids...most of these people would never even get seen
that said...I'd love to see 99% of them write a good song.
copying and dexterity is one thing...write "hear about it later" or "unchained" and then we'll talk!!!!!
right Chip?? who's with me?
hahahaha
-
These Whippersnappers have no idea just how lucky they have it with all this access to free online instruction courses. It makes what we did look archaic in practice.
-
and my daughter needs to get crack-a-lakin!!
hahahaha
she's 12 now...I need her to be able to play surfing with the alien front to back and passion and warfare by this summer
:)
-
Word.
-
and god dang they can play their a$ses off.
man.
-
Worlds ahead of even the likes of Vai and Satch at their age. That's the scary thing about it all.
-
well
again what can they write...it's not the guitar Olympics although at times online it seems that way
you know what I mean.
Not hating they are both bad ass...but I'd like to hear 4 or 5 songs...even if they are like shred songs, or guitar olympic style jams etc...that's the thing
give me some original material that's good...that's the big hurdle I think for most of these folks...
but you know...it's like more about getting a million followers or tons of likes and monetizing your videos...
so what do I know
:)
-
Songs are overrated. It's all about how many friends you can get on your social media sites that you'll never talk to or meet in real life. That and the ability to use a filter properly. ;D
-
well the music biz is so screwed up if doing covers on youtube lets you play guitar for the rest of your life and not have a real job
I fully support this decision!!
hahaha
:) ;D

Yngwie Malmsteen - Encore - Canyon Club - Agoura Hills CA - 1/25/18
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfA6HTcySIA
I like it when I can find vids that have half concert and half audience because I find it fascinating to watch the audiences and their reactions to what is going on on stage. I even find the actions of the bartenders in the background interesting. They go about their jobs while Yngwie is shredding as if it wasn't happening.
-
I agree...or anything from the stage looking out...it's endlessly fascintating.
so much kick ass stuff to watch.
I need an extra set of eyes...(and less work)
:(
tomorrow we'll hook up for sure...almost done with a double album for you.
:)
-
this is Tosin's fans trying his new guitar line...you'll see what I mean
they all play great but it's boring overall
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uakscBDyko
and here's Tosin playing...he's kind of like Stanley Jordan meets something...not even sure.
the song gets really heavy about 36 seconds in...trust me the guy is a bad ass....this almost has a Satriani feel but with
a Djent twist or some ****...King crimson
HAHAHA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bt-RoSzsEKA

that lower clip is actually pretty epic...it might be worth watching the whole thing
he is really freaking good
hahahaha
-
Rabea is getting really good and tasty.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1o2cHT15Ho
it really shows how your own personal taste ultimately makes you a compelling player...many get the chops
but don't bring great melody and great story telling into their playing...you can really hear him doing that more
and more...he might be one of the best "young guns" out there...or heading that route at the very least.
and one more because I like you
:)

I've been a subscriber of Stevie T for about a year now and I'll be honest, he gets on my nerves at times. But, I do give him props. He can play and he does bring the laughs. Saw the Stretch Video a few days ago. If you want one that's even funnier, watch the video above.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIUqu5EUwf8&index=2&list=LLTVgXy5pOO9ff20O1Z1QPMw
It's cool to see that Akira is still around. It's funny that the last time I saw George in person was at NAMM...mid 90's.
-
Not a fan of George Lynch's playing honestly. It never connected with me. I've tried to get into his stuff a bunch of times and it's never really happened. I haven't listened to this clip yet because I'm down at Starbucks but is he really upset or is that like a title? Like a song or something.
He's too tan to play guitar. All that coconut oil on his skin makes the neck all slippery. He seriously the George Hamilton of guitarists!!!
-
Speaking of Guitar Gods. Yesterday I was looking for a photo of my guitars that I had taken when I was about 19 years old in the living room so I was just searching for words like Strat, guitar Etc on my external hard drives..and that photo of you came up that you had sent me from The NAMM Show with you playing the Satriani guitar!!! So awesome. You look like you're ready for the big stage!!
-
Man, I really wish I was I had that Satch guitar. Given the fact that many years have passed since then and they never released them to the public (which I know of never happening)...just makes me want that guitar even more!
As for George....he is p*ssed at the sound guy. From what I could get from the audio and lip reading, the sound guy didn't hook up his rig to the monitor. Anyway, yeah....don't mess with George Hamilton at NAMM!!!
-
and trust me. I know and can tell Lynch is very very talented...so I am not hating...for whatever reason I just don't find his playing interesting
past his dexterity. I got to when he started finger tapping and about 40 seconds into that part I was like...'eh....I am just not with him.'
The Akira clip is kinda cool....4K is nice and crisp~!!
time machine...gimmie that guitar back
you should have ran with it....50/50 chance you would still have it
or just be getting out of jail!
hahaha
-
you should have ran with it....50/50 chance you would still have it

I've been a subscriber of his for a while and he always puts out great videos, but I think the best thing he has done are these vids. It's a different approach to an interview....and it's a great way to really get the one being interviewed engaged rather than answering the same tired and old questions.

He looks familiar to me...but I don't recognize the name.
now here's the hope./ I am sure the playing will be awesome...I am hoping I like the song.
do we know if it's an original piece?
here I go for a first spin on it.
-
wow see that is how you spot a GREAT player and great tune.
it catches you IMMEDIATELY. Honestly he hit the first chord and there was magic already coming
out of his finger tips~!
he's great and that guitar sounds awesome.
-
damn that is awesome./. He makes it sound like a 12 string with his nails...really cool playing.

some amazing shots of Norm's WAREHOUSE here...pretty staggering imagining what is in all these HUGE boxes.

Alex Lifeson Tom Sawyer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVtVsiebT98
Gotta show some love to Alex in this thread. Great interview.
-
I've had Rush mania the last week. I must have downloaded 50 videos.
There's a series of rockline interviews a guy has been uploading...long and fun listens.
Alex is one of those guitarists you might argue (although Rush is very popular and has had an amazing career)
but he is sort of "under rated" and a lot of times not mentioned...that said he's done well and is always a treat
to hear talking about playing!!

How to Record Guitar Videos (Audio & Video)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmSbOpOluDo&index=4&list=LLTVgXy5pOO9ff20O1Z1QPMw
This isn't really a video of her playing but more of a tutorial of how to actually record and edit your guitar parts on your computer. I've watched plenty of other similar kinds of videos and they are so dense or lacking the ability to actually explain what they are doing that they are frustrating to sit through. Rachelf on the other-hand does a great job of simplifying the process.

Sweet. I will check this out today!

John getting the news about Glenn. It's sad that this is happening to Glenn. The guy smokes most everyone out there. You can see that John is genuinely upset at the news and doing everything he can to keep from crying.
-
Yeah, I've seen that Stevens vid a while back. It's good stuff.

wow bummer on Glenn....that is awful

John 5 Plays 7 unbelievably iconic guitars from Hard Rock's vault

hold on I am watching (well listening while working) to a live led zeppelin show...they are doing Dazed and Confused and I am only 14 minutes into the 34 minute version of the song

very cool!
Iceman cometh
now wouldn't you guess Paul had a few of those? It seems odd he'd part with it...unless it's on loan?
thoughts?
what years did he play that specific guitar?

Kiss - Sure Know Something

Kiss - Heaven's On Fire
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZjevnnkA20
I'm not entirely sure of the timeline and how many Iceman's with Rhinestones he had, but during the Dynasty Tour he had shifted to a C racked Mirror version and a few years later he took the idea of the C racked Mirror to another guitar which is not an Iceman. I mis-remembered it being one. But it's kind of neat to see the trajectory of any idea jumping from one guitar to the next. BTW, the C racked Mirror Iceman is the one I've looked at getting. It's still on my Wish List of guitars to get. But the asking price is ridiculous.
-
sweet...let me dust off my rhinestones and yellow bike pants and I'll watch these!!

I added the VV clips to the Vinnie Thread. I'll post my thoughts on the show over there. Thanks for the clips.

I am not sure who's more active online.
John5 or Paul Gilbert....
55 minutes of Paul....should be interesting

Yeah, the past 3 weeks or so, I've noticed that John and Paul are battling it out in the "how many channels can I guest-star in and release a video to hype said channel" Tour. It's been awesome.

John in particular is all over the freaking place.
well Paul too...hahahahahahaha
I need their press agent

Yeah she's great. Props to her and Alice Cooper for putting her on the big stage and her getting there with kick butt skills!

man Ace of Arms is great....He's so pro with his playing...it sounds like I am listening to a legit signed band
damn...he's unreal and tasty!!
watching this past video now...
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/241418889
-
Yeah, I told ya he was da bomb. Seriously, the guy plays with no effort. It's like his mind is elsewhere when chatting and his playing has a mind of his own.
-
I sort of pictured it was going to be more of the you know everything you see on YouTube. a guy that can play Paul Gilbert licks or Yngwie or a John Petrucci vibe etc. but this kid is tasty.
He could play in Steely Dan if he wanted!!

save this immediately if you don't have it.
it's amazing and has been removed from youtube before

Nita Strauss performs Nakamura's WrestleMania theme: Exclusive, April 8, 2018
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_m1cHMKOY8g
One of the coolest moments last night when I was watching WrestleMania was seeing Nita of all people getting a spotlight and blowing the roof off the house. She was f*cking amazing. This was a BIG surprise for me and totally unexpected. I've been searching all day waiting for anyone to post a performance video from last night. So far, nothing. Still waiting. For now, you will have to just be happy with her WrestleMania interview.
-
wow great gig for Mike....Lindsay must be a real pain to work with....but honestly
at this point...I think solo shows for him would do pretty well anyway.
It's kinds sad him talking about all the stuff with Tom not knowing just a few years later...he'd be gone/
the music sounds really good stripped down...when he just plays it...they are really tasty
-
Nita is HOT.
and a great player...take note Steve Vai.
;)

Sophie Lloyd

Daaaaaaamn! She is good. Not your typical "shred fest" for the sake of shredding. There is real meat on the bone here. Great tone too. Oh, and she's hot. Duh. Subbed her channel just now.
-
Yeah she's a cutie. I know her channel. Smooth playing and really adorable faces while she effortlessly plays stuff I'd look like I am having a grand mal seizure doing. Lol
The thing I found most interesting about her is she's British. She looks American to me. :) She should post more, her channel is light content-wise for one that's been up for about 5 years I think.
Just my two bits.
I wish I was that cute playing! :)

I am watching it again right now....good stuff

youtube is so cool.
To see his evolution on his channel as a kid in his room to this is really awesome.(I'd guess I've seen his stuff for maybe 3 years?)
so many talented and creative (and in his case) truly funny people...entertaining and not
having to deal with agents and like "being discovered"...props to him

Okay, this is legit good for some "YouTuber" guitar player. I didn't even know that Steve sang and I certainly didn't know he actually wrote pop songs like this. If I didn't already follow his channel, I would again. The vid is funny as f*ck too.
-
https://youtu.be/Q2DC8m6DrXs.
I've never seen Steve and Paul on stage together before. This is way cool.

I know you follow this channel but watch this for sure...really fun listen and they get some great tones

Kristian Nairn (aka Hodor from Game Of Thrones) Jams 'Holy Wars' W/ MEGADETH
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kh3qAViqhno
I had no f*cking clue Nairn could shred. I think because I only know him as Hodor and with him being in Game of Thrones as the only thing I know him from....this vid is quite surprising. I don't think I'm ever going to be able to watch GoT the same way again knowing he kills it on gee-tar.
-
saw the Dave Elfson clip with him
sadly I don't watch Game Of Thrones...so he's just a fat guy with bad tattoos.
;)
hahahahaha
I thought he was the Dude from Mastodon and had put on weight when I saw the photo Dave had posted.
Ironically enough...I am pretty sure this guy did do a cameo on the show
hahahaha

Another cool John 5 vid. Seriously, I can't get enough of his videos and the fact that there seems to be a new vid every day is great.

he's crazy!
love the guy.
and he's a tele man

Annoying People With Metal In Public (Djent Busking)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JC32M5H2duc
This is actually interesting to watch for a number of reasons. At the end of the day, I knew this was going to be an abject failure. You can't go and Djent to the masses, where 98% of the people on the planet don't even know what Djent is....let alone like it. Just sayin'.
-
funny.. I saw that video maybe 2 months back...I wonder if he reuploaded it....or has done one other that was just like it. I even scrolled to the end...and I am nearly sure it's the same one.
metal in general and even hard rock now is like....5% of the people might like it...most won't even know what it is.
haha

The day I got tricked into meeting my guitar hero, Jason Becker
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ti5rWHOkZ0
This popped back into my feed tonight for whatever reason. Decided to watch it again and it dawned on me that this was the video that introduced me to Nita Strauss couple years ago. It's just strange to rewatch and see just how far she has come. To see her more or less "scared" to play for Jason doesn't add up to who she is now. Know what I mean? Anyway, cool vid for sure.
-
from what I have heard...Jason still has sex and has had a few girlfriends.
put that in your visual memory banks

Jason Becker - Hold On To Love (feat. Codany Holiday) (Official Music Video)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8jAQWpO1Ac
So, I saw that this new vid just dropped and didn't know what to expect. But this song is, I certainly wasn't expecting at all. It's Jason, so I was thinking it would be a guitar-heavy song like he is known for. This song, WOW! I didn't think he could write such a beautiful song not because he doesn't have that inside of him, I've just never heard anything like that from him in the past. This song is fantastic. Brought a tear to my eye. This is going on my playlist. Great job Jason!!
-
oh yeah it's great...that guy sings awesome and the lyrics are super cool too.
I am sure you've listened to Valley of Fire also...love it.
I ordered 2 copies on vinyl...I think it comes out officially in 2 or 3 weeks!
-
this is great. I subscribe to his channel but had never seen this.
some great playing and funny too.
hopefully you enjoy! (or have seen it)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=or8bb3oKNQI
-
I subbed his channel a while back. He's good on both Guitar and Bass. Honestly, I don't know why he is the drummer in his band when he can play circles around his own Lead Guitar player. I dunno. Different Strokes I guess....
-
the video is like a christmas thank you gift for fans on youtube..
sort of like jason beckers valley of fire...where each player gets a solo...some really cool solos in that
also
here's a question for you....who have you discovered in say the last 1-5-10 years that you feel is the best of the new players.
(just anyone not already super famous)
it can be a top 3....will be fun...I'll try and get my list together too!
-
"Bohemian Rhapsody" Steve Vai & Malmsteen & Zakk Wylde@Sands Bethlehem, PA 11/27/18
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o4Ed6kdy4c
Now THIS is a treat. Never heard Steve playing Bohemian Rhapsody before. This is good, but I would rather just hear (and see) Steve playing all the parts on his own.
-
sorry for the lag (see how polite I am) I saw this update last night but I was just about to log off for the night.
going to rock this right now...curious how it will be!!
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
horrible intro...lol...talk about Hendrix./... "we're not going to play any Hendrix" poor Steve he's going senile....when Zakk Wylde has to get you back on script...you know sh$t done be going odd ways
:)
-
all those guitars on stage being played and not...make me happy...that's a LOT of gear.
-
that really is excellent...Nuno is super tasty.
I have to say...they all get major props being able to jam without really having an ego crisis.
Yngwie's eyebrows kill me...he must be using just for men on them...they look ridiculous!!!!!!!!
-
Haha. No sh*t! He needs a weed whacker.
-
more sick youtube awesomeness.
these players really freaking bring it on these pieces.
I have to say I am impressed and it's actually fun to see the sense of community
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oj0CjV1QxtQ
enjoy!
-
I've been watching this over and over.
it makes me want to get good on guitar sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
freaking bad. damn!!!!!!!!!!!
it looks so fun and imagine if we had access to youtube to show off when we were 21.
man we missed out on that...thank god we are only 23 now.
hahaha we just need a bucket and a mask...or some make up and a wig!!!
-
here's last years...my jaw is on the floor...this is so cool
great sense of community with all this too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=or8bb3oKNQI
-
I would say that I subscribe to about 90% of those in the video. It's like watching an extended "Stars" solo. The one person that surprised me in the vid was seeing Thomas "McRocklin" McLaughlin. I always wondered what happened to him. I did a search for him about a year ago and could only find archival footage from the 90's. Great to see that he has a YouTube Channel now.
-
I will look him up.
so what is the deal with The Dooo...I am guessing you know him from Twitch also...so does he just play games and then start
playing guitar...he seems pretty famous over there based on some of his videos...like he trolls people by playing?
funny idea....dude is young too like 21 or 22...must be nice.
hahahaha
I will check out that player you mentioned...not sure I even remember him from the video.
-
oh yeah that guy.
He for sure stood out in the group...he was like the snow white shredder dad. (had like a Clark Kent / Steve Vai vibe) hahaha
I'll have to check out more of his stuff...so where is he from in the 90's was he in a big band or something I am not aware of?
-
I subbed The Doo awhile ago. He just does interesting videos that most others don't do in the guitar world of YouTube.
-
McRocklin had a band called Bad4Good that got some airplay on MTV back in the day. They were not what I'd call good. Just another band in a sea of bands out there. The only reason why there was any "interest" at the time had to do with McRocklin being the Wonderkid that Vai was pushing hard in the media and the other reason was Danny Cooksey, the red-headed kid from....Different Strokes and T2.
-
right I remember him now more.
funny he's still got the Vai vibe...not just the guitar but there's just something about him
hahaha
fun stuff...Now I am listening to a bunch of these guys today and wishing I didn't suck on guitar
hahahaha
-
This guitar is really gorgeous and the story behind it is really cool!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uliuOC56SSQ
-
wow this is cool too.
I am wondering if this is pulled from the other track or a second take for each player.
in the 2017 video...there's a great female guitar player who does some really tasty tapping.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB8_7L1B4pQ
-
each player in the above video only got 2 seconds.
works though...and sounds really good honestly/
-
Yeah, I watched the McRocklin 'Universe History' last night when I found his YT Channel. Good stuff.
-
Arpeggios at the speed of light
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqBL5vGhNFQ&index=53&list=LLTVgXy5pOO9ff20O1Z1QPMw&t=0s
Da fuq! This kid makes Yngwie and Michael Angelo Batio look insanely slow.
-
oh no.
am I going to be breaking all my guitars after seeing this? ;D
already got my therapist on the other line...here I go :o
hahahaha
-
yeah that was really good...he had some really tasty stuff going on. a few times he went into a MUSE song with the arpegios....I was getting bored the last minute and was about to turn it off (made it to the end though)
but he did some really great stuff and overall was more interesting to listen to than 70% of the shred players out there you'd randomly find on youtube.
I think I'd seen a video of his when he was a bit younger...might have been in his bedroom.
-
this has got some really nice stuff in it.

The Game Of Thrones Theme Song | Custom Shop | Fender
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i0a7RDPkM8
I still say that the Game of Thrones Theme Song is one of the greatest ever for a TV Series and every time the opening hits, it gets me extremely pumped for the forthcoming GoT episode. So, to have these Rock Legends playing their interpretation of the song was damn f*cking cool to say the least. With that said, Kristian Nairn should have been invited to sit in for obvious reasons.
-
I've only seen I think the first 3 or 4 episodes. Looks cool but I never had the time to devote to a series that long. :( I don't know the song...I am sure it grows on you !! Renaissance. Rawwwwwk!
-
was thinking Marty and Jason could do a pretty groovy version of the Game of Thrones theme way back/

Andy Timmons | Uncle Ben | Bohemian Rhapsody LIVE Knoxville TN October 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wrcs3AhvexE
Whenever I see Andy Timmons pop up here and there on YouTube, it always sends me back to my Guitar For The Practicing Musican and Guitar World days as that was where I first "heard" of him when I'd check to see who was transcribing such and such songs. As for this performance, it's f*cking dope. Sh*t man, this is some good playing here. Oh, Uncle Ben on Bass always throws me off balance. I'll never get use to him playing Bass. Just seems so foreign to me. With that said, he is really good on Bass for sure.
-

Steve Morse and Paul Gilbert NAMM 2020
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gx4XZRgg8EY
This is a great performance. Steve ALWAYS crushes it. Paul was good too. But what blows my mind is that Steve is STILL playing the same Ernie Ball Music Man Guitar all these years later. Not a replica or a backup...but the SAME guitar. He was playing it back in the day when he popped up at Blue Guitar. He was playing it long before then too. Crazzzzzy! I don't know how that guitar has survived all these years given how much he plays and all the tours he has been on over the years.
-
wow that is awesome and yeah....he is loyal to that guitar!!!!!!!!!!!!

Randy Rhoads 1982 Seminar
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9b78P7hBL_o
How is it I have never seen (heard) of this till now? Anything with Randy, be it video or audio is a Holy Grail find given how few of them exist out there in the world.
-
I have heard this...wasn't aware that Circus magazine had a channel on youtube though...so that is a win regardless.
I think the audio was recorded while he was on tour with Ozzy...like an "in store"
also on youtube a guy uploaded his guitar lesson with Randy Rhoads...that's been floating around for years so I'm sure
you have it.
still cool even though the guy taking the lesson isn't the greatest player!
