Cute little film that just crossed my path.  Reminds me of a movie called "Batteries Not Included" that I liked as a kis.

Short Films / Acid Rain

From the website:

ACID RAIN is set in post-industrial Eastern Europe and follows a young woman who runs away from her depressing hometown. That’s how she meets Skinny – a kind of unstable weirdo who lives in a camper and runs his not-so-legal errands. Their journey gradually leads them towards more and more eerie settings, revealing the attraction and repulsion of rave culture.

written, directed and designed by Tomek Popakul

Funky, weird... very interesting and really cool to see on the big screen.  This is another one I caught on the Festival circuit and I felt like I was transported both back in time and into an alternate dimension.

Short Films / The Neighbor's Window

This is a movie I caught on the indie film circuit and quite enjoyed, a 20 minute slice of life drama following a husband and wife in NYC and their "relationship" with the neighbors they can see from the living room window.

Love this, short but brilliant.  And obviously I love the hedgehogs.

Video Games / Analogue Pocket

Analogue is making a Game Boy.  Analogue is making a game boy.

Oh my god I want it.

I know I should say more, but... I want it.  Great looking screen, slim design, I still have my old games... I don't know if i can justify the price, but... what a good looking system.

Short Films / The Study

Short "pilot' presentation for a feature length "cabin in the woods" style thriller.  This was posted a while ago, evidently, but I happened to see it and met the filmmakers last night and it seemed like the kind of thing worth sharing on here.  Very curious to see where it goes.

Short Films / Monsters

A young girl lives with her family in a bunker, protected from monsters.  GREAT.

An outlaw walks into a saloon... and a ballet of death ensues.

Now Playing: Movies / Dune (2020)

Realized we didn't have a thread for this one yet.

Not much to go on yet, but I wanted to share this quick five minute intro to what Dune is.

Short Films / Sam Did It

An interesting idea for a short film, what happens when you're the first person to find out about a celebrity death?

Short Films / Orbit Ever After

Digging the Gilliam-esque production design here.

Short Films / Power Rangers / Street Fighter
« on: October 08, 2018, 08:37:48 pm »
This is interesting insofar as it's an actual licensed fanfilm, with the actual actors from Power Rangers in it... a far cry from the Joseph Kahn one we saw ages ago.

Short Films / God: City

Another one from Oats, and the return of Sharlto Copley as God.

The Drive-In Theater / Douglas Trumbull and the Magi format
« on: September 21, 2018, 10:10:19 pm »
So I'm in the minority who likes high frame rates, which as you can imagine is a pretty unpopular opinion.  Well, I feel a bit vindicated finding out Douglas Trumbull agrees.  He does think motion smoothing is garbage, but his explanation for higher frame rates for clearer pictures (and the steps he's taken throughout the years to make it real) is quite fascinating.

I admit that some of this went right over my head, but that whole switching between eyes thing he goes on about... I definitely felt that.  I love 3D but that would explain the headaches.

Also, I love that this means that Trumbull wants to make movies again.  This process looks amazing and not only do I want to make a movie in it, I know which movie I'd do.
