CBS drew a stunning 27.7 million viewers for Ashton Kutcher's debut on "Two and a Half Men" Monday.
The ninth-season premiere drew a 10.3 rating/24 share in the prized 18-49 demographic, and was easily the most-viewed episode in the show's history. It was also the highest-rated show on television since the Feb. 27 Academy Awards, which had an 11.7 rating and 37.6 million total viewers.

The show boosted the 9:30 p.m. premiere of "2 Broke Girls," which had a 7/16 and 19.1 million total viewers, according to preliminary numbers. It was the most-watched fall comedy premiere in a decade.
The night's other premiere -- NBC's "The Playboy Club" -- tanked with a 1.6/4 and 5 million total viewers. It tied the now canceled "Crusoe" for NBC's lowest-rated fall drama premiere ever.

"Two and a Half Men" drew plenty of people curious about how the show would deal with Charlie Sheen's exit and whether Kutcher would gel with his castmates. But if it can keep even half of its season premiere viewers, it will easily remain television's biggest sitcom.

CBS, the night's top-rated network, started the night with an hour of the returning "How I Met Your Mother." It scored a 4.7/13 and 11.3 million total viewers in its first half hour and 5.1/13 and 12.2 million in its second. At 10, "Hawaii 5-0" was down 51 percent from "Girls," scoring a 3.4/8 and 12 million.

ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" was the fifth highest-rated show of the night, behind the CBS comedies. Airing from 8-10, its season premiere had a 3.9/10 and 18.6 million total viewers. The season premiere  of "Castle" at 10 had a 3.3/8 and 13.6 million total viewers.

NBC's "The Sing Off" from 8-10 couldn't provide much of a lead-in for "The Playboy Club" -- it had a 1.9/5 and 5.2 million total viewers.

Fox's "Hell's Kitchen" had a 2.5/7 and at 8 and a 2.6/6 at 9. It averaged 5.9 million total viewers in both hours.
The CW ran repeats.

"Girls," which CBS has said was its best-testing pilot ever, looks strong going into fall. But it will have to move into a new 8:30 timeslot next week, when "How I Met Your Mother" won't give it as big a lead-in as "Men" did.
And big debut ratings are no guarantee of long-term success: The most watched fall comedy premiere prior to its debut Monday -- NBC's "Inside Schwartz" -- had 22.5 million viewers after an episode of friends in September 2001. But it was canceled after nine episodes.

The "Men" premiere, meanwhile, had the best ratings for a scripted premiere since "Desperate Housewives" in September 2005.

The Wrap...

I was kinda guessing we'd see record numbers... good or very bad (OK, so I'm wishy washy)

Television / Fall 2011 Shows

Well, the season has started. Give your thoughts on old and the new. If you think the show will have staying power, then a separate thread might do. But I have a feeling a good portion will not have the legs to carry them through.

Free Agents - NBC

Meh, not surprisingly and completely underwhelmed. I like Azaria and Kathryn Hahn is kinda hot in a girl next door kind of way. But did not laugh once and it just looks like a waste of time

Up All Night

Even worse, but I predicted it not only from the trailer, but my distaste for Will Arnett. Do not find him funny in any way. I likes me some Christine Applegate, but this ain't gonna do it. 15 minutes into the show without laughing I started to think how are they going to build episode after episode of baby problems. Don't get it. A complete waste of time.

comiXology - digital app

I couldn't think a better place than here. Digtal books are subject unto themselves, but this thread is really about comics and making them available. Beyond that, I am so green, but hoping this helps folks out with those new newfangled dee-vices.

Quote
Being a bookworm doesn’t mean you stick to the classics. Comic books are as popular as ever, and many readers prefer their stories told one colored panel at a time. Today's smartphones are equipped with display screens just as advanced as the phone itself. High pixel density and vibrant colors provide a visually rich viewing experience, and that's a lot of horsepower to waste on printed words alone. This ability to deliver sharp, crisp images in a mobile form factor is a marriage made in heaven for comic book geeks. That's why publishers including DC and Marvel have launched mobile sites and create content specifically for handheld devices.

ComiXology's Comics application works very much like the Kindle app we just discussed. Users can shop around 8,000 of titles from virtually every comic book publisher, with more than 300 being free to download. And once they make their purchase, the title can be read on any Apple or Android device [source: comiXology].

Purists may scoff at the idea of reading a comic book on a 3.5-inch (8.9-centimeter) display (which is the average screen size for a smartphone), but going mobile has its advantages. Storage, for starters, is a big draw for digital subscribers. Collectors couldn't exactly carry an issue around in their pocket until now. And the free app features what they call Guided View technology, which helps guide the reader to the next frame so each panel can be displayed individually.

and if this picks your interest, I highly recommend Standing In The Shadows of Motown. About the Funk Brothers who are the backbone behind some of the biggest soul hits ever.

Food / Wine

Ah, for the love of wine. Ya got some recommendations (good or bad), post 'em here.

By far my favorite is...

Coppola's Merlot

I had a recent discovery of my 2nd favorite which is a blend (Syrah, Zinfandel and Merlot) and kinda new to the market...

Apothic Red

I recently tried Coppola's Rosso, a red table wine and was less impressed with it. Then again, I'm comparing it against the Merlot. As a red table wine, it's pretty freaking good.

Television / TV Guide Watchlist (What Shows Will You Be Watching?)
« on: September 12, 2011, 12:22:47 pm »
With a lot of discussion of what’s on TV, especially with the new season about to kick in and it will take several weeks if not a few months for these shows to premiere, it’s quite the task to track what all the chaos is.

TV Guide has instituted Watchlist. If it works like I think it will, I have a much better chance of catching shows.

I don’t have a DVR… don’t plan to get one. I watch more cable/satellite than network television… so with the combination, I have a good probability of missing shows.

Look it over… it also will indicate Netflix and other online available showings.

I’m going to try it out. Thought I’d mention it here and let’s see what happens.
